YOU CAN SEE THE BURN MARKS ON THE SIDE OF THIS SHOE. THIS IS APPARENTLY WHERE THE ELECTRICITY TRAVELED THROUGH THE GROUND AND BURNED ONE OF THE THREE VICTIMS.
THEY WERE ALL SITTING UNDER THIS TREE TAKING SHELTER FROM THE THUNDERSTORM. THE SOCCER GAMES HAD STOPPED. THAT'S WHEN LIGHTNING STRUCK THE TREE, TRAVELED DOWN ITS TRUNK, AND THEN HIT THE THREE MEN.
:18- 27
"All of a sudden the thunderstorm popped up. And people were starting to get off the field. There was lightning and thunder. And then I heard, sounded like a bomb going off."
HARRIS COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTY JOE SHRIVER HAS WORKED SECURITY HERE FOR 17 YEARS AS A SECOND JOB. HE WAS HERE WHEN THE LIGHTNING STRUCK. HE RAN TO HELP.
:36- 47
"Nothing I've ever seen before in my almost 22 years of law enforcement. It hit the top of the tree and it was just like sparks and fire going all the way down the tree, and then when it hit the ground it just dispersed out."
IT IS ALMOST LIKE THE LIGHTNING ACTUALLY PEELED THE BARK OFF OF THAT TREE. WE'RE TOLD THE MEN WERE SITTING RIGHT OVER THERE. AND THIS BARK SIMPLY RAINED DOWN AROUND THEM.
:56- 1:08
"They just had burns to the body. And the one that was deceased at the scene, after the ME's office got here they took his shoe off, and you see a large hole and a burn mark where the electricity went through his foot."
ONE MAN DIED HERE NEAR THE FIELD. ANOTHER DIED AT THE HOSPITAL. SHRIVER SAYS THAT THERE WERE MANY MORE SOCCER PLAYERS SITTING UNDER THE TREES WHEN THE LIGHTNING STRUCK. THEY RAN TO SAFETY. IN ALL, HE SAYS, THERE WERE ABOUT 200 ATHLETES HERE ON THESE FIELDS.
1:23- 1:27
"It hit the top of the tree, and it went all the way around it."

MORE SUNSHINE IN THE FORECAST
Do you aspire to be on the beach or out on the water, but the rain is hindering your plans? Good news, the rain is becoming less numerous this week, and that means good beach and boating weather!
Monday will start mostly clear and sunny. Temperatures in the 70s and 80s. By the midday hours, our temperatures will peak in the upper 80s and lower 90s before the scattered rain cools us off in the afternoon.
The steering will be more westerly, which will take many of the afternoon storms inland. Earlier in the day, however, we'll see the potential for scattered showers over the urban corridor and close to the beaches.
Hit and miss afternoon storms, fairly typical of a July pattern, will continue through mid week before an area of high pressure settles in and reduces our rain chances for a couple days.
The focus on Thursday and Friday will be the heat. High temperatures could potentially reach the mid to upper 90 then, and heat indices will be over 100 degrees.
The heat will back off a bit this upcoming weekend, and rain chances will be close to normal again by Saturday.
The beach and boating forecast tomorrow calls for winds from the SW at 10 knots, seas 2 feet, and inland waterways will be smooth.
The tropics continue to be quiet.

A CHRISTIAN AND MUSLIM SCHOLAR ARE FINDING COMMON GROUND AND A COMMON CAUSE.RIDDING HOTELS OF PORNOGRAPHY.
BUT SOME SAY IT'S A MISGUIDED EFFORT.
SUSAN CANDIOTTI REPORTS.

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS --
IN MANY HOTEL ROOMS.FINDING ADULT ENTERTAINMENT IS AS SIMPLE AS A CLICK OF THE REMOTE. BUT THAT MAY CHANGE
"We're reaching out to people who are profiting from pornography and point out that that's a bad thing to do."
PROFESSOR ROBERT GEORGE --A CHRISTIAN SCHOLAR FROM PRINCETON-- AND SHAYK HAMZA YUSUF--A MUSLIM SCHOLAR -- CO-WROTE A LETTER TO CEOS FROM THE TOP FIVE U-S HOTEL GROUPS, ASKING THEM TO REMOVE ADULT MOVIES.
"We believe that despite the lucrative nature of the pornography business that hotel executives, people of goodwill, shareholders, can act on the basis of conscience here, and lay profitability aside for the sake of human dignity."
GEORGE CALLS THE LETTER A "SMALL STEP" AND ACKNOWLEDGES THAT PORN WILL STILL EXIST. HE JUST HOPES TO LIMIT ACCESS TO IT.
"The society pays heavy costs in terms of damaged relationships, wounded people, addiction."
CRAIG GROSS AGREES, BUT FEELS GOING AFTER HOTELS IS THE WRONG APPROACH.
"It's an empty gesture."
GROSS--FROM TRIPLE-X CHURCH DOT COM--MINISTERS TO THOSE ADDICTED TO PORN. HE PREFERS TO TARGET THE DEMAND FOR PORN.NOT THE SUPPLIER.
"This is about money And dollars. And that's why this is sold in hotels. And so removing it from hotels, to me, isn't the issue. The issue is that people are consuming pornography."
AFTER ALL, PORNOGRAPHY WOULD STILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET AND MOBILE DEVICES, EVEN IF HOTELS PULL THE PLUG.
"Are we going to ask them to stop stocking the mini bar, or stop selling Haagen Daz by the pint in our room service?"
PORN STAR RON JEREMY SAYS THERE ARE MANY NORMAL ADULTS WHO WATCH ADULT MOVIES AND WANTS RELIGION TO BUTT OUT. HE SAYS.YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE OPTION NOT TO WATCH.
"You don't want to watch adult movies, watch Gilligan's Island re-runs. I do. It's fine."
THE AMERICAN HOTEL AND LODGING ASSOCIATION DEFENDS THE RIGHT OF HOTELS TO CHOOSE. BUT PROFESSOR GEORGE HOPES HOTEL C-E-OS SEE IT DIFFERENTLY.
"There are some things that are contrary to our humanity that they shouldn't be for sale either."
THE OMNI HOTEL GROUP DROPPED ADULT MOVIES IN 1999. MARRIOTT SAYS ITS NEW HOTELS WON'T HAVE ADULT ENTERTAINMENT. AND HOPES TO PHASE IT OUT ALTOGETHER BY 2013. CHOICE HOTELS LEAVES IT UP TO ITS FRANCHISEES. and OTHERS HAVEN'T RESPONDED TO THE LETTER. SUSAN CANDIOTTI, CNN, NEW YORK.
