THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
HOT CONDITIONS TO END THE WEEK
We're closing the work week on a warming trend.
Sitting over the Bahamas is an area of high pressure, and it is inching westward toward Florida. The closer we get to the center of this high, the hotter and drier it'll become. Rain chances are only around 10 to 20 percent, so the chances of seeing a rain… Slim to none.
Hot, hazy, and humid conditions are on the docket for Southwest Florida Friday, and rain chances, again, are at a minimum. A stray afternoon/evening shower is possible across the inland communities along the sea breeze. Otherwise the vast majority of us, west of I-75, will stay dry.
All your beach plans should be fine for Friday!
Temperatures will be in the mid 90s for the majority of this week and the following week with heat index values in the 105° range. So please stay safe, heat is the number one killer in the weather world. Wear light clothes, drink a lot of water, get in the shade, and take breaks if you are outside.
Moisture will return for the weekend, bringing our typical rainy season pattern back with dry mornings and afternoon storms. The southwest Florida "norm" will continue until Wednesday when dry and hot weather make a comeback.
The tropics continue to stay quiet!

Return to index of stories...
Well first, just when things seemed to be getting worse in Europe again and the Dow fell 500 points earlier this month,
Return to index of stories...
investors rushed back into stocks and in the last five trading days we've recovered most if not all of those losses.
And stocks aren't the only asset class gaining traction right now. Reports on Florida's Housing Market that were just release this week show promising trends as well.
And when we look back one year and compare current numbers for June 2012 with June 2011, the trends are positive across every metric. Closed sales are up 5.3%. Pending sales are up 31%. These numbers basically tell us that more homes are selling.
New listings are down 3%, the number of months of supply is down 40% to just about 6 months. What this tells us is that there are fewer homes available for prospective buyers to look at. In fact there are 31% fewer homes available for sale this year than last year.
And just as you would think, with more demand for homes and fewer homes to purchase, the average sales price of a home in Florida has increased by 10.2% over last year.
And naturally, with higher prices, the Affordability Index dropped 4.2% over the year. So the bottom line is, if you are in the market for a home and you've been worried about the stock market or housing market, you are likely missing out on an opportunity to make that purchase at a historically low price.
Return to index of stories...
And it's at this point, when money starts coming off the sidelines in droves, that you could see the risk of what we've called before a "melt-up" in these markets. And right now could be the beginnings of that in real estate.

AT THE 2012 SUMMER OLYMPICS, ONE OF THE TOP U.S. MEDAL CONTENDERS IS 15-HUNDRED METER RUNNER, JENNY SIMPSON.
SHE BURST ONTO THE TRACK AND FIELD SCENE LAST YEAR WITH A BIG WIN AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.
NBC'S LIAM MCHUGH LOOKS AT THE AMAZING TECHNOLOGY THAT HAS HELPED KEEP SIMPSON HEALTHY AND ON TRACK AS SHE GOES FOR THE GOLD.
Return to index of stories...
In 2011, Jenny Simpson took the world of track and field by surprise, becoming the first U.S. woman since 1983 to win the fifteen-hundred-meter race at the World Championships.
JENNY SIMPSON:
I CROSSED THE FINISH LINE AND I KNEW THAT I WAS FIRST, YOU JUST ALMOST-- YOU LIKE HAVE TO PINCH YOURSELF.
While she is a strong medal contender for the 2012 Summer Olympics, Simpson's road to London almost never happened due to a stress fracture she endured in her right femur, a direct result, she says, from the impact of running.
JENNY SIMPSON:
VERY CLEARLY THERE'S NO DOUBT IT'S BECAUSE OF THE CONSISTENT AND CONSTANT IMPACT ON MY LEGS.
Whether a world champion runner or a weekend jogger, the repeated impact between a runner's feet and the ground can cause stress fractures in bones or soft-tissue injuries in the joints.
DR. RORY COOPER:
THE RISK OF INJURY IS TYPICALLY IN YOUR SHINS, YOUR KNEES, AND YOUR HIPS. KNEES TEND TO BE THE AREA WHERE MOST RUNNERS GET THEIR INJURY.
Cushioned running shoes and softer track surfaces help reduce some of this impact, by allowing the foot to stop more slowly.
But now, engineers have designed an "anti-gravity" treadmill to help decrease impact.
NAT SOT - JENNY SIMPSON:
OK, WE'LL GET STARTED.
The runner first slips into a suit, which seals to a small pressure chamber on the treadmill. As the chamber fills with air, it creates a pressurized environment around her lower body, which actually helps bear some of her weight as she runs, making the runner feel lighter.
JENNY SIMPSON:
IT'S FASCINATING. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE RUNNING ON THE MOON OR SOMETHING.
With the help of modern engineering and technology, Jenny Simpson has the chance to prepare for the race of her life at the Olympics.
