WE'RE LEARNING MORE TODAY ABOUT WHAT WAS INSIDE JAMES HOLMES' APARTMENT.
POLICE SAY HE TURNED HIS HOME INTO A "BOMB FACTORY" DESIGNED TO KILL.
ATTACHED TO HIS FRONT DOOR--
WAS A WIRE, RUNNING TO TWO CANISTERS FILLED WITH EXPLOSIVE LIQUIDS--
THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR WAS COVERED WITH 30 POTENTIAL BOMBS--
EACH CONNECTED TO A CONTROL PANEL IN THE KITCHEN.
THEY WOULD HAVE CAUSED A CHAIN REACTION OF EXPLOSIONS--
POTENTIALLY ENOUGH TO BLOW UP HIS ENTIRE APARTMENT.

A TAMPA MAN IS THANKFUL TONIGHT--
HIS *TWO* GRANDSONS WERE *INSIDE* THAT COLORADO THEATRE--
AND SURVIVED.
14-YEAR OLD JOSHUA--
AND 12-YEAR OLD JACOB GARRETT WENT TO THE MOVIE WITH A FRIEND.
when the smoke bomb or teargas went off, the 17-year old and jacob wanted to run out, and joshua told the 17-year old and jacob to get down and stay down.
AND THAT'S WHEN JOSHUA "LAID ON TOP OF" BOTH OF THEM--
AND PROTECTED THEM.
DAVID SAYS BOTH KIDS ARE VERY SHAKEN--
BUT OTHERWISE DOING WELL.
DAVID HOPES TO FLY OUT LATER THIS WEEK TO VISIT THEM.

THE N-C-A-A LOWERED THE BOOM TODAY ON PENN STATE.PUNISHING THE SCHOOL FOR COVERING UP THE CHILD SEX ABUSE ACTIONS OF FORMER COACH JERRY SANDUSKY.
THE PENALTIES INCLUDE A 60-MILLION DOLLAR FINE--
A FOUR YEAR BOWL BAN--
A LOSS OF AT LEAST 40-SCHOLARSHIPS--
FIVE YEARS PROBATION--
AND THE FOOTBALL TEAM MUST *FORFIET* ALL OF ITS WINS BETWEEN 1998 AND 2011.

WITH A LONG LIST OF PENALTIES.THE NCAA EFFECTIVELY CRIPPLED THE PENN STATE
FOOTBALL PROGRAM FOR YEARS.
No price the NCAA can levy will repair the grievest damage inflicted by
Jerry Sandusky on his victims. However we can make clear that the culture,
actions, and inactions that allowed them to be victimized will not be
tolerated in collegiate athletics.
ON THE PENN STATE CAMPUS, SHOCKED STUDENTS WATCHED AS THE PUNISHMENT WAS
ANNOUNCED.
A 60 MILLION FINE - EQUAL TO ONE YEAR GROSS REVENUE OF THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
THAT MONEY WILL GO TO PROGRAM TO PREVENT CHILD ABUSE OR ASSIST VICTIMS.
A FOUR YEAR BAN ON POST-SEASON BOWL GAMES
ALL WINS FROM 1998 TO 2011 ARE VACATEDSO PATERNO IS NO LONGER THE WINNINGEST
COACH IN NCAA FOOTBALL HISTORY
AND A LOSS OF 20 SCHOLARSHIPS PER YEAR OVER FOUR YEARS AND FIVE YEARS'
PROBATION
how he doesn't think this is necessary
IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE - THE NCAA DIDNT IMPOSE THE SO-CALLED DEATH PENALTY
AND SUSPEND THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
IT'S ONLY BEEN USED ONCE BEFORE.AT SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY IN THE
LATE 1980S AFTER FOOTBALL PLAYERS ACCEPTED CASH FROM BOOSTERS.
Suspension of the football program would bring with it significant
unintended harm to many who have nothing to do with this case.

SCIENTIFIC ADVANCES IN H-I-V RESEARCH IN RECENT YEARS HAVE LED THE NATION TO A GAME-CHANGING MOMENT IN THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS.
"We can start to begin to end the AIDS epidemic. Most people don't know that."
THAT BELIEF IS SHARED BY MANY OF THE ESTIMATED 25-THOUSAND DOCTORS AND ACTIVISTS IN WASHINGTON, D-C THIS WEEK FOR THE INTERNATIONAL AIDS CONFERENCE.
"I'm trying to get more and more people treated, and to change the attitude."
DR. MYRON COHEN OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA LED GROUNDBREAKING RESEARCH LAST YEAR THAT FOUND TREATING HIV-INFECTED PEOPLE WITH ANTI-RETROVIRAL DRUGS AS SOON AS THEY'RE DIAGNOSED REDUCES THE LIKELIHOOD BY 96-PERCENT THEY'LL PASS THE VIRUS TO UNINFECTED PARTNERS.
"So if you treated a person, you rendered them no longer contagious."
ALONG WITH CONDOM USAGE, DRUGS MAY ALSO PREVENT PEOPLE FROM BECOMING INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE.
TRUVADA WAS RECENTLY APPROVED FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE AT HIGH RISK FOR ACQUIRING H-I-V.
"There's a great deal of hope and optimism, but we're cautious."
THE RATE OF H-I-V INFECTION IS SKYROCKETING AMONG YOUNG, AFRICAN AMERICAN, GAY MEN.
POVERTY AND POOR SELF-ESTEEM ARE MAJOR REASONS MANY OF THESE MEN DON'T INSIST ON USING CONDOMS,
DON'T GET TESTED. AND DON'T GET TREATED.
"Every day, we hear their experiences of homophobia, of racism, uh, of the things that just tear at their being."
"No matter who you are or who you love"
"Everyone deserves compassion and dignity."

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
DRIER WEATHER COMING
An abundance of tropical moisture which arrived over the weekend and hung on today will gradually give way to some drier air by Wednesday. For the balance of this evening I expect a few more downpours and thunderstorms to wash in from the Gulf of Mexico on the southwest wind we have in place. It looks reasonable to expect passing showers or a storm through midnight. Temperatures will not drop off too much tonight and we will stay in the upper 70's by tomorrow morning with high humidity.
The forecast for tomorrow calls for a few showers in the morning and midday with gradually improving weather by late day. Our high temperatures will hit the low 90's tomorrow afternoon as more sunshine prevails. It's possible that a few inland thunderstorms will pop up on Tuesday afternoon and drift inland toward Lake Okeechobee.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I expect hot weather and mainly quiet afternoons. The chance for a thunderstorm will drop to 20% or less for these days. High temperatures for the week will continue to climb into the lower 90's and hit the middle 90's by the end of the week.

THE LUCK OF THE IRISH WASN'T ENOUGH TO KEEP MICHAEL WARD FROM CLOSING THE DOORS OF HIS 29-YEAR-OLD IRISH PUB- FOR GOOD.
IT'S OVER. I JUST GOTTA SAY GOODBYE TO THESE PEOPLE AND THAT'S HARD.
HARD BECAUSE WARD WILL HAVE TO LET GO OF ALMOST 30 EMPLOYEES, HUNDREDS OF LOYAL CUSTOMERS AND EVERYTHING INSIDE OF THE BUILDING.
EVERYTHING MUST GO.
HE SAYS HIS LANDLORD SOLD THE PROPERTY ON COLLIER BOULEVARD-
HE WAS ORDERED OUT BECAUSE THE BUILDING IS SET TO BE DEMOLISHED.
I THINK IT'S A MISTAKE BY THE LANDLORD.
SARAH GADE'S WORKED AT THE PUB SINCE IT OPENED IN 1983.
I HATE TO THINK I WON'T BE COMING TO WORK ANYMORE.
GADE WILL NOT ONLY HAVE TO LEAVE HER JOB OF 29 YEARS,
SHE'LL HAVE TO WATCH EVERYTHING INSIDE BE AUCTIONED OFF TUESDAY MORNING.
PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE COMING IN TO JUST BUY MEMORIES.
THE OWNER IS STILL NOT SURE IF HE'LL OPEN ANOTHER IRISH PUB. BUT FOR NOW, EVERYTHING MUST GO, INCLUDING THIS IRREPLACEABLE IRISH PITCHER, GIVEN TO HIM BY ONE OF HIS CUSTOMERS IN THEIR WILL.
WARD SAYS IT'S CHEAPER TO SELL THAN TO STORE ITEMS LIKE SILVERWARE, IRISH NICK NACKS AND EVEN THE KITCHEN SINK TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER AT THE PUB.
ALL WHILE THE CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES WONDER WHAT'S NEXT.
IT'S STARTING FROM SCRATCH AGAIN. WHETHER OR NOT I GOT THE ENERGY TO DO IT, I DON'T KNOW.

I enjoy the lifestyle of being on the water here in Florida, that's why we moved here.
He's lived along the caloosahatchee river for two years.
And while friendly sea creatures don't bother him, the algae he sees every now and again does.
13:36. 13:44
It really doesn't go away. It just moves around a little bit but it doesn't really go away it's always somewhere around here.
three environmental organizations around the state filed a federal lawsuit today in hopes of improving the river.
According to that lawsuit, environmentalists like the conservancy of southwest florida say poor water quality violates the clean water act by not managing the lake to keep the river at appropriate water standards.
And they say the u-s army corps of engineers can fix it with more frequent releases.
Sot 10 seconds
We need it. And we should be an equal partner at the table but were not, we're the stepchild."
The corps operates three locks that allow water to flow from the lake to the gulf.
Emvironmrntalists want the river to move at minimum flow, or 300 cubic feet per second, but right now they say it's not.
They say if the lock gates were open more it would help the situation.
Sot Andrew McElwaine - president of conservancy of swfl
2:53. 3:07
"what the suit would do is compel the army corps to meet a minimum flow level to the river and create a more natural flow regime in the river so it can begin to heal.
Sabo doesn't know if the lawsuit will fix the problem, but he's staying positive it might be the answer.
17:16. 17:18
I hope that they come up with a solution

I just got off the phone with the army corp of engineers.
They don't typically comment on pending suits, but did say they manage the lake by the 'lake okeechobee regulation schedule' which they say was favored by the conservancy of swfl.
