Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
A few hit or miss storms will continue to develop through the late afternoon hours, but with the onshore breeze expect most of these to push deeper inland toward the Lake Okeechobee area. Once the sun sets and we lose the daytime heating, most of Southwest Florida will be rain free.
Tonight, clearing skies are in the forecast and it will be warm and muggy as overnight lows settle into the middle and upper 70s by morning.
Moisture associated with a weak wave has lifted north, and will allow for a drier and more stable airmass to move in overhead. This will keep the sunshine in full force for Wednesday with a few fair weather cumulus clouds developing during the afternoon. An isolated shower can't be ruled out during the peak heating of the day, otherwise the vast majority of us will stay dry.
Hotter temperatures are also on the way with daytime highs in the middle 90s, with slightly cooler readings at the coast and beach locations. Combine this with the humidity and the heat index or "feels like" temperature will be in the low 100s.
A drier and hotter than normal pattern looks to stay in place as we round out the work week and into the weekend. This means rain prospects will stay on the lower end with temperatures in the mid 90s.

At the 2012 Summer Paralympics, elite athletes with disabilities will rely on strength, speed and skill when they go for the gold in wheelchair rugby, basketball and racing.
They will also have help from biomechanical engineers like Rory Cooper, a former Paralympic athlete who customizes wheelchairs for particular events.
DR RORY COOPER
THERE'S NO ONE CHAIR THAT'S GOING TO BE THE BEST FOR WHEELCHAIR RUGBY VERSUS WHEELCHAIR RACING.
Sometimes referred to as murderball, wheelchair rugby is a full contact sport.
AARON PHIPPS:
WHEN PEOPLE SEE OUR SPORT I THINK IT COMES AS A GREAT SHOCK.
To withstand impact, rugby wheelchairs are designed with durable aluminum frames. Engineers add small wheels on either side of the axle to provide front and back stability - while also paying close attention to the wheelchair's center of gravity.
NAT SOT RACE
In a typical paralympic wheelchair race, athletes fly down the track at speeds approaching 20 miles per hour.
The ideal racing wheelchair has three wheels and is made from composite materials like carbon fiber.
During the race, athletes sit low and forward generating maximum speed by applying as much force as possible to the entire hand rim.
DR. RORY COOPER
IT'S REALLY ALL ABOUT SPEED.
From the track, to the court, to the everyday wheelchair; Cooper and his team are giving people with disabilities the cutting edge equipment they need.
DR. RORY COOPER
SEEING HOW WE CAN HELP IMPROVE THEIR FUNCTION AND IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE. AND THAT'S A REAL REWARD FOR ME.
And for a select few athletes at the 2012 Paralympic Games, their reward will be gold.

Wearing bright pink t-shirts emblazoned with the images of the girls, Drew and Heather Collins struggle to keep it together--12 days after investigators say their daughter 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins and her cousin, Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, were abducted.
SOT I GO ON AS LONG AS I CAN AND THEN I BREAK DOWN AND THEN I GO AGAIN.
Now there are signs of tensions between Heather and her sister--Lyric's mom, Misty Cook-Morrissey.
Heather Collins, mother of Missing Girl
SOT EVEN THOUGH WE WOULD LIKE TO BE AS ONE FAMILY IT HAS MADE IT BE TWO SEPARATE, TWO SEPARATE FAMILIES.
The source of the conflict: statements from investigators last week that Lyric's parents--now estranged--weren't fully cooperating. On Monday, Misty took a second polygraph test. She said she passed; investigators wouldn't discuss the exam.
RICK ABEEN, SHERIFF
SOT WE ARE GETTING COOPERATION THAT WE ARE ASKING FOR SO IT'S GETTING BETTER
Both Misty and her husband have spent time in prison on drug charges Over the weekend, she acknowledged their criminal past but said it had nothing to do with the girls disappearance.
SOT OUR PAST IS PUBLIC RECORD. IT'S NOT SOMETHING I'M SCARED OF, SOMETHING I SHY AWAY FROM IN ANY RESPECT.
The two girls were last seen July 13th heading out on a bike ride. Their bikes were later found on a nature trail by a lake. Searchers combed the area and drained the lake, but last week authorities called the case an abduction, saying there were signs the girls were still alive. monday, investigators said they still cling to that hope.
SOT NOTHING TO INDICATE THAT THEY ARE NOT. WE WANT TO KEEP HOPES UP FOR THE FAMILY TO KEEP THE HOPE UP.
