IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Good Sunday morning! We are looking at a nice day ahead. The morning started with temperatures in the low to mid 70s and we will warm into the low to mid 90s this afternoon. There is still plenty of humidity in the picture and that humidity will make it feel like we are near 100 degrees this afternoon.
You can expect mainly sunny skies through the morning. Then into the afternoon there will be a few clouds building. With the heating of the day, there will be the chance for a few isolated downpours, but coverage of rain for the day is less that 20% of Southwest Florida sees rain.
As far as the winds are concerned, a light breeze from the west-southwest will come in around 5 - 8 mph starting later this morning.
Tomorrow looks very similar to today, with just a couple more afternoon storms popping up. By the time we get to mid-week, we'll be in more of a typical Southwest Florida summertime pattern as we bring back some scattered afternoon storms through the end of the week and into the weekend.
We still have no worries in the tropics

A BRUTUAL DOUBLE HOMICIDE REMAINS UNSOLVED IN CHARLOTTE COUNTY.
BUT COLD CASE DETECTIVES SAY THEY'RE HOPEFUL SOMEONE WILL WANT TO CLEAR THEIR CONSCIENCE AFTER MORE THAN 20 YEARS.
TRISH ROUTTE WITH CRIME STOPPERS HAS THE DETAILS.
Return to index of stories...
For decades, the pristine waterways surrounding Don Pedro Island have been known for their beauty and solace, not to mention their good fishing grounds. But 20 years later, a brutal double homicide that occurred right in the middle of that serenity, remains unsolved - with a killer still at large.
Det. Gerard Cooley- "This was a violent ending. Very violent."
In October 1990, 42 year old Harry Billy Scott and 32 year old Stanley Smith ventured out into the waters off Don Pedro for a morning of fishing. Scott, a commercial mullet fisherman by trade, frequented those waters often. But around 9 a.m., passers by in a rental boat noticed something unusual.
Det. Cooley - "They saw the boat up near the shore and they could only see a white boot sticking out of the boat - but couldn't see anyone else on the board. They also noticed something orange floating in the water."
Trish Routte: That orange something was the body of Stanley Smith, who along with his relative had just been shot to death on the boat, possibly only minutes earlier. The witnesses say they also saw a green mullet boat speeding out of the area. And most likely, the whomever was on that boat either saw something, or were directly involved.
Det. Cooley - "People know, or at least have a good idea, as to who perpetrated these offenses. And I want to know who it was."
Scott, a man of 400-pound stature, was well known from Crystal River, FL down to Charlotte County, as the Mullet Man. Smith was mentally challenged, and touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with. Cold case detectives believe their killer was likely no stranger to them.
Det. Cooley - "I believe it was probably someone who knew them."
And though many years have passed, detectives are confident the case will still be solved.
Det. Cooley - "We have every intent of putting this to bed after 20 years. We want someone in jail for it."
And the key to justice in this case can come down to just one anonymous phone call.
Det. Cooley - "That one little piece of information can be the one that opens this case up and puts someone in prison."
For Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, I'm Trish Routte.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
