Today's Weather Story
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Storms will be plentiful today as a band of moist air from the tropics passes over Southwest Florida, triggering numerous showers and storms this afternoon. It looks as though this moisture air will be moving over South Florida just the atmosphere is heating up, so there will be plenty of energy in place for the rain and storms to work with. Today's storms will be capable of producing very heavy rain along with intense lightning and gusty winds.
Aside from what's looking to be a stormy afternoon, our morning looks to be fairly quiet. We may see a few isolated showers on the radar throughout the morning, but most of us will be in store for sunny skies until the stormy weather begins around the midday hours.
With all the rain expected to develop today, temperatures will be kept a bit lower compared to previous days. Our daytime highs should top out in the low to mid 90s.
By tonight, some lingering rain will be possible, but we should see the storms shrink in coverage by sunset.
By Tuesday morning, a few coastal showers will be possible, and then we'll see another round of scattered rain and storms by the afternoon. The storms will probably cover less ground Tuesday as drier air starts to cut into our rain chances.
Wednesday will likely be the driest day of the week, but we still can't rule out a few isolated storms during the afternoon.
In the tropics, Ernesto is showing signs of becoming better organized again, and we'll have to see if this will eventually translate into stronger winds today. The thinking on the path of Ernesto remains unchanged. The storm will continue its westward movement and eventually make landfall over the Yucatan peninsula Tuesday night. Ernesto may then re-emerge into the Bay of Campeche Thursday before finally moving into Central Mexico by the end of the week.
Meanwhile Florence continues to struggle to remain a viable tropical storm as it battles lots of dry air and wind shear. Florence is forecast to weaken into a remnant low over the next few days and eventually re-curve, staying out at sea.
