Today's Weather Story
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"Showers and storms increase through the weekend"
After near record highs the past couple of days, temperatures will be on a downward trend, thanks to some extra cloud cover and increased rain chances.
Temperatures were slow to fall overnight, which means this morning we are off to another warm and humid start with most locations near 80°.
Ample sunshine this morning, will give way to warming temperatures through the day along with increased cloud cover. Highs today will remain a bit on the toasty side in the lower to middle 90s with heat index values in the low 100s.
During the peak heating of the day, we'll see a few more scattered showers and storms focused along the I75 corridor before drifting out into the Gulf of Mexico through the evening hours.
A batch of deeper tropical moisture is poised to move across Southwest Florida over the weekend, which will lead to a better coverage of storms both Saturday and Sunday and maybe even an earlier start. This will also help our temperatures from soaring into the middle 90s.
By early next week, the moisture should begin to exit with more of a typical August pattern setting up with hit or miss afternoon storms during the afternoon.
In the tropics, we are monitoring newly formed Tropical Depression 7, which could become Tropical Storm Gordon within the next day or so. Computer models keep this system on a westward track taking it through the Caribbean by early next week.

Full Forecast
