REPUBLICAN SOURCES TELL NBC NEWS THIS IS THE TEAM, THE 2012 REPUBLICAN TICKET. CONGRESSMAN PAUL RYAN CAMPAIGNED WITH MITT ROMNEY IN APRIL IN WISCONSIN, RYAN'S HOME STATE.

nats ryan

the next pres of the unites states gov mitt romney

AND ROMNEY, SOURCES SAY, WILL INTRODUCE RYAN AS HIS RUNNING MATE IN VIRGINIA THIS MORNING.

AT AGE 42, RYAN IS A SELF-DESCRIBED REPUBLICAN YOUNG GUN. A STAUNCH FISCAL CONSERVATIVE. CHARISMATIC AND ENERGETIC.

AS CHAIR OF THE HOUSE BUDGET COMMITTEE, RYAN PROPOSED A TAX AND SPENDING PLAN THAT WOULD CUT SO DEEPLY EVEN SOME REPUBLICANS, INCLUDING ROMNEY, DIDN'T BUY IT.

A PLAN TO TURN MEDICARE INTO A PRIVATE VOUCHER PROGRAM THAT ANALYSTS SAY WOULD RAISE WHAT WE PAY FOR HEALTHCARE, AS IT CUTS GOVERNMENT'S COST.

AND THE RYAN PLAN WOULD LOWER THE TAX RATE ON THE WEALTHY FROM 35 TO 25%

sot: ryan. meet the press

"you need real fiscal reforms, real spending cuts, real spending controls going forward, so we can deal with the debt in the future"

ROMNEY IS DEALING WITH SLIPPING POLLS AS HE PICKS A RUNNING MATE, LOOKING FOR WAYS TO EXCITE THE SKEPTICAL GOP CONSERVATIVE BASE.

FORMER MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM PAWLENTY WAS TOLD HE'S NOT THE CHOICE.

"It's a great honor to serve Governor Romney. I've been delighted to help his campaign in any way that I can. And this doesn't affect my attitude towards wanting him to be President. I'm gonna continue to work really hard to help him in anyway that I can."

PAUL RYAN AS THE VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE WOULD HELP ROMNEY GET THE CAMPAIGN BACK ON THE BIG ISSUE: OUR FISCAL CRISIS AND THE ECONOMY. Return to index of stories...

6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Abundant tropical moisture will make for a pretty cloudy, showery weekend for Southwest Florida.

We'll even notice some a few coastal showers this morning, and then the rain will edge eastward and inland as we progress through the day.

The best chance of rain for most of us will come between the mid morning and mid afternoon , and then a lot of the afternoon rain will be concentrated over our inland communities. Even with the most rain deeper inland late in the day, with so much moisture around, we can't rule out a passing shower for anyone at any time.

By tonight, some lingering rain will be possible while our sky stays predominantly cloudy. It's certainly possible to see some breaks in the cloud cover, so let's hope for some clear patches if you plan on watching the Perseids meteor shower late tonight.

Sunday looks to be another fairly cloudy day with several showers and storms roaming around. The best window of opportunity for rain will likely be from the morning through the mid afternoon. Again, it looks as though most of the late afternoon and evening rain will be deeper inland.

Afternoon temperatures through the weekend will be slightly below average with all the clouds and rain developing; most locations will top out in the low 90s both Saturday and Sunday, and a few spots may not even hit 90.

By Monday our weather will start to shift back to a more typical summer pattern for Southwest Florida. We'll enjoy more morning and early afternoon sunshine, and the best chance of rain and storms will be in the afternoon. Highs should gradually return the low to mid 90s by early next week.

In the tropics, we're closely monitoring Tropical Depression Seven, but its fast motion and interaction with dry air have proven to be a challenge for the storm. T.D. seven may organize into a weak tropical storm later today, but the future for what could soon be Gordon doesn't look too bright. Strong wind shear is waiting downstream, which is expected to tear the system apart by the end of the weekend or early next week.

Elsewhere, we're also watching a strong tropical wave northwest of the Cape Verde Islands, but this system will likely curve to the north and stay well out at sea. Return to index of stories...

IN FOUR YEARS TIME THE BRAZILIAN CITY WILL BE THE FIRST IN SOUTH AMERICA TO EVER HOST THE OLYMPICS.

SINCE THE BID WAS AWARDED IN 2009, WORK HAS ALREADY BEGUN TO MAKE THE CITY READY FOR THE GAMES. THE VENUES WILL BE LOCATED IN FOUR CLUSTERS AROUND THE HISTORIC CITY -- ALL CONNECTED BY A SERIES OF HIGH SPEED RAIL LINKS AND THOSE INFAMOUS OLYMPIC LANES. MUCH OF THE ACTION WILL BE CENTERED IN BARRA, WHERE THE OLYMPIC PARK WILL BE. MORE THAN HALF OF THE EVENTS WILL BE STAGED IN BARRA WHERE CONSTRUCTION ON VENUES BEGAN IN JUNE.

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL
