city leaders argue staff must write the changes in a way which allows for luxury RVs but safeguards the city's character.
Those who sell the close to a million dollar toys claim the cape should bet on this still untapped market.

FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
LESS RAIN, MORE SUN AHEAD
The sunshine feels really nice after the weekend we just had. Good news - there's going to be a lot more of it this week!
High pressure is beginning to build over Florida. When this happens we typically see very benign weather, and that's exactly what is coming our way.
As it settles over, the skies will clear, we'll see less rain, and more sunshine. Oh, and I forgot to mention… Warmer temperatures!
Highs will be in the mid 90s. Of course when one factors in the humidity it'll feel 100+.
The rain will be our only way too cool down. We do expect heavy downpours and storms, but they will be very isolated. What we are calling for is the return of normal August weather. That means isolated, hit or miss, type storms along the sea breeze pushing inland during the afternoon.
This pattern will last for the next 7 days!
The tropics continue to be rather quiet. We're watching two tropical waves, one in the Caribbean and another in the open Atlantic. Both disturbances are battling strong wind shear and dry air, which will make it difficult for either of these systems to organize. We don't expect either of these tropical wave to be a threat to Southwest Florida or the U.S. mainland.

FOR FAMILIES WITH KIDS WAITING FOR HEART TRANSPLANTS, EACH DAY IS A GIFT.
THIS AFTERNOON - A MEDICAL BREAKTHROUGH.
WE WANT CHECK OUT A NEW VERSION OF A DEVICE THAT HELPED A POWERFUL POLITICIAN AND NOW IS GIVING CHILDREN MORE TIME AND MORE CHANCES.
ANDREW MCINTOSH REPORTS.
Return to index of stories...
WHEN YOU'RE ONLY THREE…
AND HAVE FOUR BIG BROTHERS.
YOU PRACTICALLY HAVE TO BECOME A SUPER HERO TO SURVIVE. AND LITTLE CHARLIE MCMICKEN IS CHANNELING ALL THE SUPER STRENGTH HE CAN TO WARD OFF A DEADLY FOE.
"He started not eating, throwing up, crying non-stop."
SHORTLY AFTER HE WAS BORN, CHARLIE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CARDIOMYOPATHY.
"He was born with a condition where his muscle cells are not normal. He wasn't able to run around and eventually, it got bad enough where he wasn't able to eat. It was scary seeing him. "
BUT THIS IS CHANGING EVERYTHING FOR CHARLIE. IT'S THE PEDIATRIC BERLIN HEART, A SIMILAR BUT SMALLER VERSION OF A DEVICE THAT HELPED FORMER VICE PRESIDENT DICK CHENEY WHEN HIS HEART WAS FAILING. IN CHILDREN, IT SITS OUTSIDE THE BODY AND IS CONNECTED TO THE HEART BY MULTIPLE TUBES. THE DEVICE PUMPS BLOOD TO VITAL ORGANS, HELPING THE FAILING HEART.
"Everything was better quite quickly."
AUGUST MARKS CHARLIES ELEVENTH MONTH IN THE CLEVELAND CLINIC. FOR 6 MONTHS HE'S BEEN TETHERED TO HIS LIFE LINE.
"If we didn't have that, we wouldn't be here. I mean it saved his life."
BUT THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX. CHARLIE WILL NEED A HEART TRANSPLANT TO SURVIVE AND BE BACK WITH HIS BROTHERS WHERE HE BELONGS.
"I can't wait to go home and throw the baseball with him."
"I wanna go swimming in the pool with him."
"I wanna have a huge party and celebrate him coming back. I've missed him so much."
WITH THE HELP OF A DONOR, THIS SUPER LITTLE GUY, WILL BE HOME SOON.
I'M ANDREW MCINTOSH REPORTING.

MATT HALL SHOT THIS VIDEO AND WAS JUST A COUPLE OF ROWS UP FROM THE ARENA FLOOR.
"The stage coach come right around in front of me and they weren't traveling very fast."

WHAT MADE THE STAGE COACH TIP OVER WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO FIGURE OUT. HOW THE STATE FAIR OFFICIALS AND EMERGENCY PERSONNEL RESPONDED IS ON VIDEO.
"There were people right there as soon as it was over and came to its side. There were men
who grabbed the horses to keep them under control and people were already getting inside the stage coach."
BURGHARDT AND THE DRIVER WERE UP ON THEIR FEET ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. INSIDE THE COACH, THERE WERE FOUR FAIR JUDGES. AND NOTICE DAVID SHAW, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF THE INDIANA STATE FAIR, IS ONE OF THE FIRST ON THE ARENA FLOOR.
"The response was within, I'd say 20 seconds. I was in the hallway of the coliseum. I was one of the first one's there as well. And I'm proud of the response."
SHAW WAS HIRED EARLIER THIS SUMMER BY THE STATE FAIR BOARD AND PUT INTO ACTION NEW SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS AFTER THE STAGE RIGGING COLLAPSE LAST YEAR.
"Our ultimate goal at the Indiana state fairgrounds is public safety. So if that means we keep any risk to the fairgrounds contained.that's what we're going to do."

9:20 It may be an early infection. Sometimes the test can take as long as three months or sometimes as long as six months to become positive. So a negative test does not mean that there is no HIV. The test needs to be repeated.

RUNS;
It's estimated more than a quarter-million people in this country are walking around with HIV and don't know it. The goal is to get them tested and treated.
DR. MARSHALL D'SOUZA/HIV SPECIALIST

:46 Absolutely. HIV is no longer a death sentence. We have very effective drugs, and if people take those drugs, come for follow-up, they can almost lead a normal life.
THE FIRST STEP IS KNOWING YOUR HIV STATUS. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER.

We don't expect either of these tropical wave to be a threat to Southwest Florida or the U.S. mainland.
