THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
The weather story today is Tropical Storm Isaac and its potential impacts on Southwest Florida. As of this afternoon, Isaac is moving across the Leeward Islands and will not have any impact on our local weather during the short term. For the rest of the afternoon, expect a mix of sun and clouds with the chance for an isolated storm or two through the evening hours. Otherwise, skies will go partly cloudy tonight with lows in the middle 70s by morning.
We'll keep a few showers and storms in the forecast for Thursday and Friday with highs in the lower to middle 90s.
Tropical Storm Isaac continues to pack winds of 45 mph and continues on a westerly track at 21 mph. It will be passing over the Leeward Islands this evening, while staying to South of Puerto Rico. As conditions become a bit more favorable, development into a category one hurricane is possible by early Friday morning as it bares down on Hispaniola. As it has more interaction with land and even some mountainous terrain over Cuba, Isaac should start to weaken possibly back into the a Tropical Storm, before it regenerates back into the category one hurricane while moving through the Florida Straits. There's still alot of uncertainty when it comes to Isaac's path. The bottom line is Tropical Storm Isaac will be a storm to watch closely for anyone in South Florida, and IF this storm were to affect our weather, it would most likely be early next week around Monday or Tuesday.
