THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
After a mostly sunny start to the day, clouds will be mixing in with our sunshine as we go throughout the afternoon. Isolated hit or miss downpours will be possible during the peak heating of the day as temperatures climb into the lower to middle 90s with heat index values near 100°.
For tonight, once the rain fades, skies will go partly cloudy with muggy conditions as lows settle into the middle 70s by morning.
A typical summertime pattern will remain in place as we close out the work week with isolated showers and storms during the afternoon.
Into the weekend, all eyes will be focused on Isaac. Right now, Tropical Storm Isaac is moving westward through the Eastern Caribbean Sea. As it spends a bit more time over the warm waters, intensification is possible into a category one hurricane as it approaches the Island of Hispaniola. Once it interacts with the mountainous terrain over Haiti, it is expected to weaken back into a tropical storm as it makes a move toward Cuba by late Saturday. Once over the very warm waters of the Florida Straits, conditions will become a bit more favorable for Isaac to regenerate into a category one hurricane as it approaches South Florida. Forecast models this morning are coming into better agreement as most are shifting the path near or along the west coast of Florida. This could change over the next day or two, but with all of Southwest Florida in the forecast cone this one needs to be monitored closely.

MOST EVERYONE IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA IS KEEPING A WATCHFUL EYE ON ISAAC'S PATH --
PREPARATIONS ARE UNDERWAY IN MANY COMMUNITIES ALREADY.
IN CAPE CORAL, CREWS SPENT THE MORNING SECURING SEVERAL CITY BUILDINGS INCLUDING CITY HALL.
N-B-C TWO'S ALEX BOYER HAS A CLOSER LOOK AT THE PREPARATIONS UNDER WAY IN THE AREA'S LARGEST CITY.

-workers moving ladders, etc
Its been a long morning for joe perlak.
-putting up storm panels
The cape coral public works employee is tired and covered in sweat - you can see why. Perlak and his buddies spent three hours -installing giant, brown, storm shields around the first floor of council chambers.
-joe perlak/public works employee-"they tie to the top the same way you would tie hurricane shutters to the side of the house with a wing nut and bottom ties with straps with anchor I-bolt brackets."
The second story was a bit trickier.
-ladder truck noise
The cape coral fire department had to use a ladder truck to hoist two fire fighters onto the ledge, in order to secure the storm shields to the windows.
-mayor john sullivan-"if this thing starts coming in ill get a call and I'll wind up at the EOC with the fire chief and the police chief."
City leaders - including cape coral's mayor - will be constant contact with one another over the weekend.
-sullivan-"we don't use carrier pegions anymore. In a storm that wouldn't do to good anyway."
Using humor and cell phones to weather the storm.
Elsewhere - around town - storm preps are clearly underway. Wood panels cover the windows and doors at the old public safety building.
-perlak-"its more for debris to stop debris from coming because of glass and branches, anything like that."
And the fire chief held a storm briefing this morning.
In an email sent to emergency management volunteers, wendy ryan-smith said the city may be activating a shelter but it is still too early to tell. We look for direction from lee county emergency operations and will notify if and when status changes. We may be activating volunteers to serve as need be.

THIS MAP SHOWS WHO WOULD NEED TO EVACUATE FIRST.
EVERYTHING IN RED HERE, EVERYTHING SOUTH OF CYPRESS LAKE DRIVE AND WEST OF 41 WOULD BE EVACUATED FIRST. ANY NAMED STORM EVEN A TROPICAL STORM COULD CAUSE THIS TO BE EVACUATED, SO KNOW YOUR ROUTES. TAKE MCGREGOR, TAKE 41 AND GET OUT OF THERE. WHILE EXPERTS SAY YOU NEED TO KNOW YOUR ROUTES, THEY SAY RIGHT NOW DON'T PANIC.
Gerald Campbell, Lee Co. Emergency Management
"It's too early to tell exactly what the outcome will be but we need to be aware and we need to watch that storm, pay attention to it until it's well away from us, also the tropics are heating up in general, we have storms right behind isaac so we have to keep an eye toward the tropics for at least a couple of weeks."
ONCE AGAIN, IF YOU LIVE IN THE RED HERE, KNOW YOUR ROUTES, KNOW WHERE YOURE GOING TO GO IF YOU HAVE TO EVACUATE. I'M CLIFTON FRENCH REPORTING IN LEE COUNTY, NOW LETS GO TO SAUNDRA WEATHERS IN OUR COLLIER COUNTY MOBILE NEWSROOM.

All headed to shelters throughout the county to serve as back up in case the power goes out.

We have a shelter supply inventory in portable trailers and we deploy those. They had been deployed several weeks ago at strategic locations around the county where they could quickly goto the closest shelter and be ready to literally back those trailers up to the door.
The trailers are also packed with supplies like blankets, cots and paperwork to keep track of everyone there.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
ISOLATED STORMS EACH DAY
Tropical Storm Isaac is looming large on everyone's mind today as it continues to have its eye's set on our area.
Isaac continues to pack winds of 40 mph and continues on a west-northwest track at 15 mph. The storm should pass to the south of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Thursday.
Isaac weakened slightly overnight as the center of the storm reformed to the south. However, re-strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
As conditions become a bit more favorable, development into a Category 1 hurricane is possible by early Friday morning, as it bears down on Hispaniola.
As it has more interaction with land and even some mountainous terrain over Cuba, Isaac should start to weaken - possibly back into a Tropical Storm - before it regenerates back into a Category 1 hurricane while moving through the Florida Straits.
There's still a lot of uncertainty when it comes to Isaac's path. The bottom line is Tropical Storm Isaac will be a storm to watch closely for anyone in South Florida, and IF this storm were to affect our weather, it would most likely be early next week around Monday or Tuesday.
Until then expect isolated storms each afternoon. They'll be widely spaced and many of us will get missed.
Highs will be in the low 90s.
Changes to our local weather will be felt late Saturday into Sunday. Clouds will definitely increase, and by Sunday afternoon it'll be mostly cloudy. As the hours pass on Sunday, outter rain bands will begin moving into the region.
