LET'S GET RIGHT TO IT.
HOW MUCH OF AN IMPACT WILL WE SEE WITH TROPICAL STORM ISAAC?
THE LATEST MODEL SHOWS THE STORM TO THE LEFT OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
NBC2'S HURRICANE EXPERT JIM REIF IS HERE TO BREAK IT DOWN FOR US.
Return to index of stories...
All eyes will be on the tropics this weekend as Isaac moves across the Caribbean. In the meantime, the weather across Southwest Florida will stay hot and humid with below normal rain chances for Friday.
Plenty of sun this morning will give way to partly sunny skies as we go through the afternoon. Temperatures will warm from the middle and upper 70s to the lower to middle 90s.
A few isolated downpours are possible through the peak heating of the day as the sea breeze tries to make its way inland, however the vast majority of southwest Florida will stay fairly dry.
Tonight, skies will be mostly clear with lows in mid 70s to near 80° along the coast and beach locations.
A few afternoon showers and storms remain in the forecast for Saturday with temperatures in the 90s.
By Sunday, we'll begin to see an increase in the cloud cover due to Tropical Storm Isaac along with breezier conditions, with deteriorating conditions during the evening hours.
Models are currently favoring a path near or just offshore the west coast of Florida, but that track will be fine tuned in the days ahead, and all of Southwest Florida remains in the forecast cone.

It's been a number of years since a storms actually threatened. And we've seen this storm move to the west and out to the water - nobody's really sure where this storm is going to go.
Southland exteriors on metro parkway - has been seeing an increase in calls this week too
Most - are last minute orders.
Sales associates hope they can get to all of them in time.
Sound- Phil pavliscak - sale consultant
16:00-16;15 I
Reporter-
Will you be able to help all the customers thy are calling?
Phil- some of them we can. Some of them when u are dealing with shutters and windows and things like that, that are custom and take weeks to get. Putting it off too long makes it too late.
If you are looking for metal panels - experts tell me there is still time to get them installed
As for custom frames - those can take up to 3 weeks to have made.
And though isaac's path keeps moving west -
Kittle says her hurricane shutters will still be put to good use.
8:47 I think so because the shutter will protect all the contents of our pool deck and lanai. And I'll be able to secure those so they won't cause any harm to us or neighbors

YOUR PLANS FOR THAT RELAXING WEEK ON THE BEACH IN THE CARIBBEAN ARE IN JEOPARDY. BECAUSE A HURRICANE'S APPROACHING.
.AND, WORST OF ALL. YOU PASSED ON THE TRAVEL INSURANCE OPTION.

"Because no travel insurance company is going to sell you trip insurance to cover your trip for that particular storm"
BUT.ALL MAY NOT BE LOST.ACCORDING TO JEANENNE TORNATORE AT ORBITZ.
"The first thing you really want to do is check with your hotel, with your resort, and find out what their hurricane policies really are"
ALSO EXPECT THE AIRLINES.WHO MAY CANCEL FLIGHTS UNTIL AFTER THE STORM. TO BE PRETTY FORGIVING, TOO.
"The airlines are really good about waiving their cancellation fees if a specific destination is going to be affected"
IF YOU'RE BOOKED ON A CRUISE, HOWEVER. KELLI GRANT AT SMARTMONEY SAYS. DON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH.
"Generally, their policies are going to be 'You're getting on the boat'. and they're just going to send you out of the path of the storm"
BOTH SAY THIS IS WHAT COMES WITH TAKING VACATIONS AT THE HEIGHT OF THE HURRICANE SEASON. AND WHY IT MIGHT BE WORTH BUYING TRAVEL INSURANCE.
"Maybe just 2-3% of the cost of your trip.that's how much it's going to cost to get a policy and that would cover you for needing to cancel because of weather-specific reasons"
AND, FOR NOW, HURRICANES REMAIN WEATHER-SPECIFIC FOR ANOTHER THREE MONTHS.

Starting off our list this week is Amber Jean Dixon, a woman who ran from the cops and thought she could get away with it. 22 year old Dixon is a registered convicted felon with 12 arrests under her belt. Her last arrest stemmed from an incident where she was weaving in and out of traffic, trying to avoid getting pulled over. After one of her passengers bailed out of the car, Dixon decided to do the same thing, taking off on foot, thinking she could out-run deputies. Her plan didn't quite work out, and Dixon was quickly apprehended. As it turns out, she also had marijuana and crack cocaine on her, and she was driving with a suspended license. Now, just three months after that arrest, she's now wanted for failing to show up in court on grand theft charges. Dixon was last known to be living in south Fort Myers, working as a self employed cleaning lady. She is 5'5", 130 pounds and has tattoos of a marijuana leaf and a skull on her right arm, the name Callie on her ankle, and the numbers 239 on her neck.
And in Collier County, Zacarias Herrera, Jr. is trying to dodge deputies on the heels of two warrants for violating terms of his state probation for robbery without a weapon and robbery by sudden snatching. This 21 year old fugitive has already become a familiar face to Collier deputies, with numerous previous arrests, including charges of resisting arrest and unarmed robbery. Herrera is most likely laying low in the Immokalee area, where he has a strong home base of family and friends, however he has been spotted in Lee County, near the Salvation Army in downtown Fort Myers. His only known employment is for the labor pool. Herrera is known on the streets simply as "Zack." He is 5'6", 138 pounds and has a tattoo of the phrase "I Town" on his wrist, and "ZACK" on his fingers.
Next up on our list of societal misfits is Daniel Marquez, wanted in Collier County on a laundry list of criminal infractions stemming from arrests for burglary, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and failing to comply with sex offender regulations. Marquez, also known as Daniel Ortiz, is no stranger to law enforcement, with a lengthy rap sheet that also includes jail time for lewd and lascivious conduct on a victim under the age of 16, lewd and lascivious exhibition and lots of probation violations and times when he just decided to not show up for court dates. This 32 year old fugitive is likely moving around between Collier and Lee Counties, and possibly the east coast. In the past, he's worked as a painter and drywall installer, as well as in the retail industry. He is 5'6" and has numerous tattoos, including a dragon and tribal art on his right forearm, and Chinese symbols on either side of his neck.
And rounding out our list of dubious distinction is Laura Morgan, on the run for violating terms of her probation on the heels of an arrest for larceny grand theft. Morgan's only been out of jail for less than a year, after having spent nine months behind bars for a list of theft and probation violations. Morgan's criminal history includes charges of battery, and several narcotics charges, including felony criminal activity while she was still a minor. She's also had multiple arrests for probation violations and bench warrants for failing to appear in court when a judge made it very clear that she was to be in his courtroom. She was last known to be working as a waitress and living in east Lee County. Upon her arrest, Morgan will be held without bond.

AN OVER-EAGER CHURCH VOLUNTEER MAY HAVE ACCIDENTALLY DESTROYED A 19TH PAINTING OF JESUS.
THE 80-SOMETHING YEAR OLD THOUGHT SHE COULD FIX IT.
NOT SO MUCH.DUNCAN GO-LESTANI EXPLAINS.
Return to index of stories...
It was described as a romantic, gentle depiction of Jesus and had huge sentimental value to the parishioners of this small Spanish town.
But now the 100 year old fresco looks like this. The delicate brushstrokes are gone.hidden under thick layers of paint. All thanks to the hand of this elderly self-styled art restorer.
"We saw that everything was falling down and we fixed it." says Celia Gimenez.
The fresco was looking a little worn after a century hanging in the damp church.but Giminez says she had the priest's blessing to make repairs and denies she did it in secret.
"Nooo! Of course not!" she says. "Everybody who came into the church could see me as I was painting."
What's even more upsetting the artist's family had just donated money for a professional restoration.
"It was bad enough she painted the tunic", says the artist's granddaughter, "but the problem got worse when she started on the face because now the painting is destroyed."
Experts are doubtful it can be saved.
"This picture has now become so famous as it is, you might just consider leaving it alone and not interfering with it anymore. There is going to be a queue outside to get a look at it."
The artwork once known as Ecce Homo meaning 'behold the man' is now being called 'Ecce Mono', 'Behold the Monkey."
"There will be a meeting of experts on Monday to see if the painting can be saved. It depends how much of the original Senroa Gimenez took off. Some reports suggesting she scraped away parts before painting over. Back to you."
