GOOD MORNING.

AS THE SUN IS BEGINNING TO RISE HERE IN NEW ORLEANS WE'RE GETTING A SENSE OF SOME OF THE DAMAGE AS HURRICANE ISAAC RIPS THROUGH HERE WITH STRONG WINDS AND ALSO RAINS.

AS I WALK DOWN CANAL STREET YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SEE SOME OF THE DEBRIS PALM BRANCHES HAVE JUST BEEN RIPPED FROM THESE TREES. WE'RE TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AS THEY FALL TO THE GROUND.

WE'RE ALSO TRYING TO KEEP TRACK OF THIS SIGN BEHIND ME.

IT'S BEEN DANGLING FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND SURPRISINGLY SO CAUSE MANY OF THE SIGNS WE'VE BEEN SEEING HAVE BEEN RIPPED FROM THE STREET.

YOU MAY ALSO BE ABLE TO SEE POLICE CARS. WE'RE SEEING A VERY STRONG POLICE PRESENCE HERE IN THE FRENCH QUARTER. THAT'S FOR SEVERAL REASONS, ONE IS FOR SAFETY TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE ARE NOT OUT AND ABOUT. ALSO TO KEEP TRACK OF THESE OUTAGES AND TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO LOOTING GOING ON.

WE HAVE HEARD REPORTS OF THAT IN OTHER AREAS WHERE BUSINESSES ARE WITHOUT POWER, BUT NOT HERE IN THE FRENCH QUARTER.

AT LAST REPORT CLOSE TO HALF A MILLION PEOPLE HAD NO POWER AND IT WILL LIKELY BE THAT WAY FOR SEVERAL DAYS BECAUSE OF THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS STORM.

HURRICANE ISAAC CAME ASHORE TUESDAY NIGHT, THE CENTER MOVING OVER PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LOUISIANA.

IT WAS THERE THAT TORRENTIAL RAINFALL OVERTOPPED A 17-MILE STRETCH OF LEVEE. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAYS THE RESULT WILL BE SIGNIFICANT DEEP FLOODING.

Not only did we see the worst case scenario, it got worse than that by the storm just stalling and hanging out there. So the levees can only take so much.

RESIDENT GENE ODDO TOOK SHELTER IN HIS ATTIC WITH HIS WIFE AND BABY.

The local police came around about 2:00 in the morning and told us the levee broke, and within an hour the water was coming up. But the water came up so quick, it looks like we lost everything.

THE AREA WAS UNDER MANDATORY EVACUATION, AND RESCUE OPERATIONS WILL LIKELY BE DELAYED.

I think people need to understand, during the height of this hurricane it is very dangerous to try to send teams in areas.

GULF RESIDENTS ARE WEATHERING THIS STORM ON THE SEVEN-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF HURRICANE KATRINA, WHICH LEFT NEARLY 18-HUNDRED PEOPLE DEAD AND CAUSED BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGE.

IN MISSISSIPPI AUTHORITIES SAY WATER HAS RISEN FASTER THAN EXPECTED. A BILOXI RESIDENT SHOT THIS VIDEO BEFORE THE STORM EVEN ARRIVED.

It is unbelievable that this water is up so high and it really hasn't even rained here yet.

ISAAC IS MOVING SLOWLY, WHICH MEANS SOME GULF RESIDENTS COULD BE EXPERIENCING HURRICANE OR TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS FOR A DAY OR LONGER.

Our Weather Returning to "Normal"

Hurricane Isaac is meandering slowly near and over the coastline of Louisiana this morning. Large amounts of rain, strong winds and storm surge will all be problems along the northern Gulf Coast due to Isaac. This system will be a slow mover making those effects last longer.

For us here in Southwest Florida as Isaac has moved away from our area, our local weather has been improving. Winds will be coming in from the south-southwest today, pumping in plenty of heat and humidity. By tomorrow those winds will be turning more southeasterly, helping our weather pattern return to "normal". We'll have about 30-40% coverage of afternoon storms this afternoon and each afternoon continuing right on through your holiday weekend.

As far as the tropics, we've already talked about Isaac. There is also Tropical Storm Kirk, but this one is in the mid-Atlantic and won't have any impact on Southwest Florida. There is another tropical wave almost 600 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. This is one that we will be tracking for a number of days. It does have a medium chance for development in the next couple of days. Return to index of stories...

It was Ann Romney's moment - the biggest speech of her life - and the

biggest opportunity for this campaign to reach out to women - and she took

advantage of it:

ANN ROMNEY SOT: "It's the moms of this nation -- single, married, widowed --

who really hold this country together. We're the mothers, we're the wives,

we're the grandmothers, we're the big sisters, we're the little sisters, we'

re the daughters. You know it's true, don't you?

Arguing it's the women - in American families who always work a little bit

harder.

ANN ROMNEY SOT: "Working moms who love their jobs, but who probably would

like to just a work a little less to spend more time with the kids."

At one point, simply offering this:

ANN ROMNEY SOT: "I love you women. ANN LAUGHS

She spoke of a tougher economy for families. And tough solutions ahead:

ANN ROMNEY SOT: "We're too smart to know there aren't easy answers but we're

not dumb enough to accept that there aren't better answers - CHEERS

And she spoke of her marriage.

She said it is hardly as some have described as 'storybook.'

ANN ROMNEY SOT: "Those storybooks never seemed to have chapters called ms or

breast cancer. A storybook marriage? No, not at all. What Mitt Romney and

I have is a real marriage - HUGE APPLAUSE

Her 5 boys in the crowd - wiping away tears -

And from behind the stage, that nervous husband - proudly emerging -- with

a kiss -

And from Ann Romney and the personal side -

To the man who would pounce.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie taking on the President.

CHRISTIE SOT: You see, Mr. President - real leaders don't follow polls. Real

leaders change polls.

But AT TIMES. IT SEEMED Christie SPENT MORE TIME speaking of himself:

CHRISTIE "I" MONTAGE: We, I , I , we.

It would be 17 minutes - Before he mentioned the man running for President.

CHRISTIE SOT: "We have a nominee who will tell us the truth and who will

lead with conviction. And now he has a running mate who will do the same.

We have Governor Mitt Romney and Congressman Paul Ryan, and we must make

them our next President and Vice President of the United States!" Return to index of stories...

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

THAT DAMAGED BUILDING AT RITCHIE BROTHERS AUCTIONEERS IS JUST BEYOND THIS

FENCE.

AND WORKERS TELL ME THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT COULD HAVE PUSHED THEIR LONG-TIME

COLLEAGUE OVER THE EDGE.

SCRIPT:

THE MAN YOU SEE IN THIS PHOTO IS LYNN BENSON.

AND WORKERS AT RITCHIE BROTHERS AUCTIONEERS IN HUMBLE SAY BENSON'S THE GUY

WHO DAMAGED ONE OF THE COMPANY'S OFFICE BUILDINGS WITH A BULLDOZER.

As you can see it's totally

destroyed."

RUNS=:02

THE COMPANY'S VICE PRESIDENT, FRANK WILSON, GAVE ME AN UPCLOSE LOOK AT THE

DESTUCTION POLICE SAY HIS 52-YEAR-OLD EMPLOYEE CAUSED AFTER BUSINESS HOURS

MONDAY NIGHT.

"This is totally wiped out. There

was computers and you name it in here. The phone system everything is gone.

This was flooded last night the main pipes were down, probably about 4 or 5

inches of water flowing through here."

RUNS=:10

INVSTIGATORS SAY BENSON POWERED UP THIS D6 DOZER AND RAMMED THROUGH A CHAIN

LINKED FENCE BEFORE CRASHING INTO THE BUILDING.

WILSON SAYS HE RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE A FEW TALKS WITH BENSON. BUT HE SAYS

HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT COULD HAVE TRIGGERED THE CRIME.

We work long hours. We are a very

close family, so we all know each other really really well. So it is a

shock when something like this happens. We've been doing this since 1958,

and we've never had anything like this, so this is pretty unique."

NOW, AS THE STAFF WORKS TO CLEAN UP THIS MESS.

BENSON IS UNDER ARREST. CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL MISCHIEF.

help, and his family needs some help, and our staff and everybody is safe.
