430 this morning Brian shearer was on his way to work when he saw car after car run over a woman on the interstate.
"nothing that you want to see, ever"
Johnny world, ran over the woman "makes me not want to drive any more, know what I'm saying."
Semi driver Johnny world was headed to Miami from Tampa. According to witnesses he was the third vehicle to hit the woman.
"I was merging over from the traffic, the people on the side of the road, all of the sudden, there's a body right there a person lying in the middle of the interstate, that doesn't happen."
Florida highway patrol closed the south bound lanes for hours as they investigated and took witness statements.
Johnny "I don't feel goo at all about it. I'm freaking out about it. I run over a body. It's bad man.

Another global sporting celebration. another night for London to shine-- as well as the royal family.
The Queen. Prince Edward, Princess Anne-- and, William and Kate-- all back in the Olympic Stadium, supporting the world's paralympians.
"Ever since the dawn of civilisation people have craved for an understanding of the underlying order of the world, why it is as it is and why it exists at all."
Not present-- Prince Harry. Though starting Monday, he will play a role, his first step back into the insatiable public eye.
"Prince Harry is currently back at Balmoral in Scotland. He did spend some quality time with his father Prince Charles up there, and of course he went to make a formal apology to her majesty the Queen. Very much a strong telling off by granny I should imagine."
"Well Prince Harry's good deeds will begin at home. This week he'll be at the Paralympics and he's also now patron of a charity that helps wounded soldiers as they race to the South Pole. Royal watchers say we still don't know if video of Las Vegas might surface but there are certain to be some changes to his security detail. Back to you."

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Now that Isaac is well removed from Southwest Florida, our weather continues to improve as we get back to a typical late August pattern.
Temperatures this morning will be quite warm and muggy with some high cloudiness overhead. More sunshine to start means warmer afternoons as highs climb into the lower 90s with heat index values in the low 100s.
A stray shower along the coast can't be ruled out first thing in the morning, but with high pressure beginning to nose it's way in across the Peninsula, isolated showers/storms should hold off until the afternoon under a partly sunny sky.
Tonight, a few clouds will linger overhead with mostly dry conditions and lows will range from 80° along the coast to the middle 70s deeper inland.
As we round out the work week and head into a holiday weekend our mornings should start off sunny with the chance for isolated showers or storms each and every afternoon.
As far as the tropics, Isaac is still a tropical storm and continues to bring heavy rains and winds along the northern Gulf Coast as it drifts off to the north. There is also Tropical Storm Kirk, but this one is in the mid-Atlantic and will recurve out to sea without having any impact on Southwest Florida. There is another tropical wave almost 800 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. The National Hurricane Center is giving this a high chance of development over the next day or two, however most of the models are predicting it will take a similar path to Kirk and stay well out to sea.

ROGER GRAY REPORTS.
Return to index of stories...
IN TEXAS, WE'RE USED TO LONG, HOT, DRY SUMMERS.
BUT 2011. THAT WAS SOMETHING ELSE.
"Last summer was rough one for cattlemen all over the state of Texas, Herds had to be sold early, feed was scarce. and expensive when you could find it. And that's why for years cattlemen have been trying to find a breed, the right combination of breeds, to make cattle more resistant to the heat and the dry weather here in Texas."
AND THE KEY TO THAT IS THIS GUY. THE BRAHMA.
NAMED FOR THE HINDU GOD OF CREATION, IT IS AN INDIAN BREED THAT HAS THE TRAITS RANCHERS ARE LOOKING FOR. UP TO A POINT.
DR. JASON BANTA IS A BEEF CATTLE SPECIALIST. HE TOOK US OUT TO THE CATTLE BREEDING PASTURE TO EXPLAIN HOW THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE WHAT ARE ESSENTIALLY EUROPEAN BREEDS FROM A TEMPERATE CLIMATE, AND MAKE THEM TOUGHER.
"From an efficiency standpoint, the Brahman cattle are actually pretty good because they actually have lower maintenance energy requirements than other breeds of cattle. Which is one of the reasons they do better in some tougher climates."
BUT THE BRAHMA IS ALSO THE RODNEY DANGERFIELD OF CATTLE. THEY CAN'T GET ANY RESPECT.
BREEDERS WANT THEIR TOUGHNESS, BUT NOT THEIR LOOKS.
"Those straight blood Brahman steer calves are going to be discounted compared to some of our other crossbred."

WE'RE ALL FAMILIAR WITH PRE-PAID DEBIT CARDS.
WELL A COMPANY IN SAN DIEGO IS USING THAT CONCEPT IN A VERY CLEVER WAY -
PUTTING PLASTIC IN THE HANDS OF KIDS.
AND KEEPING PARENTS IN THE LOOP.
BOB HANSEN EXPLAINS.
Return to index of stories...
THERE ARE SO MANY PLACES OUR TEENAGERS CAN SPEND THEIR MONEY. FROM FOOD TO PHONES. SO HOW CAN YOU TEACH THEM TO BUDGET THEIR DOLLARS?
STEFANIE MULLEN USES A SPEND SMART CARD.
"It's a nice budgeting plan and i think it's made them more responsible for sure with their money."
STEFANIE'S TWO OLDEST BOYS USE A RECHARGEABLE DEBIT CARD FROM A COMPANY NAMED BILL MY PARENTS. IT'S A PRE-PAID MASTER CARD. BUT WITH SOME UNIQUE FEATURES.
"We block the card at bad places. If there are places that teens shouldn't be attempting to use the card, the card is not going to work there."
"Another advantage of this system, every time your kids pulls out that plastic, you get a text telling you how much they spent and where they spent it."
"It texts me every time they spend. I like to joke that it's a GPS system for them. I can tell where they are and where they are spending money, it's great."
"It was a little creepy at first. But when it comes down to it i don't spend too much stuff on things they shouldn't be able to see."
BUT NOT ONLY DOES STEFANIE KNOW WHERE KEENAN AND NOAH ARE SPENDING THEIR MONEY. THE BOYS ALSO GET REGULAR UPDATES ON THEIR OWN SPENDING.
"Well with the text that it sends, it tells you how much you have left as well as how much you spent. So you know how much you have to get you through the month."
THE IDEA IS LESS TO SPY ON YOUR CHILDREN. AND MORE TO TEACH THEM HOW TO BE MORE RESPONSIBLE WITH THEIR MONEY.
"And then the teen has to learn budgeting. The teen can watch how the card is being used and they can figure out, oh my goodness, i'm about to run out of money here, I really learn to start budgeting."
THE SPEND SMART CARD COSTS ABOUT 4-DOLLARS A MONTH. WITH SOME ADDITIONAL CHARGES FOR A-T-M OR OTHER USES. STEFANIES SAYS THAT'S A SMALL PRICE TO PAY TO TEACH HER CHILDREN HOW TO HANDLE THEIR MONEY.
"At the beginning I was the one who spent all of it, he saved it, so I had to figure out a balance."
"I have a limit, I know what I can spend and what I can't spend during the month so it definitely helps."
THE CARD IS TARGETED TO TEENAGE USERS. TEACHING THEM TO BUDGET THEIR MONEY WITH A DEBIT CARD. BEFORE THEY MOVE ON TO A BIGGER CHALLENGE. THE CREDIT CARD.

PEANUTS ARE STILL A BIG WORRY FOR ADAM'S MOM KAREN.
"Even last year, he was half day kindergarten, so we didn't have to worry about lunch at school. he ate lunch at home."
AND FOR GOOD REASON.
ABOUT 150 PEOPLE DIE EVERY YEAR FROM AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO FOOD.
AND ADAM'S NOT ALONE-- MORE KIDS NOW THAN EVER HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES TO MONITOR.
AND LIKE ADAM-- CARRY EPIPENS WITH THEM WHEREVER THEY GO-- A LIFE SAVING DOSE OF EPINEPHRINE.
"This just gives you a little extra dose, quickly and helps reverse the processes that get set in motion when your immune system overreacts to an allergen."
DR. DJ SCHERZER AT NATIONWIDE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL SEES KIDS WITH DANGEROUS FOOD ALLERGIES IN THE E-R, AND HAS SET OUT TO MAKE SURE MORE PEOPLE-- ESPECIALLY SCHOOL NURSES AND TEACHERS-- KNOW HOW TO USE EPIPENS.
HE SHOWED US--
HOLD FOR 10 SECONDS AND CALL 911.
"Yes-- the risk of doing it is lower than the risk of not doing it."
OFF TO FIRST GRADE-- ADAM ISN'T TAKING ANY CHANCES WITH PEANUTS.
BUT SHOULD HE NEED IT-- KAREN'S CONFIDENT IN THEIR EPIPEN.
