Rain or shine-- you still find flowers for Diana at her Palace gates.

It's just hard for those who knew her, like journalist Robert Jobson, to believe it's been 15 years since the world mourned her passing. and came here.

"It was just so-- silent! That's what made it so poignant and sad."

And the memories of Diana that have lasted are the same quiet ones that touched people then.

Reaching out to an AIDS patient. Cradling a child. Walking through minefields. to help their victims.

Today. it's stunning how much Prince William carries her easy manner.

Prince Harry-- has started a foundation for children, in her honor.

They-- her living legacy.

"She made them the boys they are today. Diana insisted they shouldn't be over-pampered. They should live free lives."

Now-- William and Kate are preparing to move into Kensington Palace, where Prince Harry also has an apartment, where they spent their early lives.

And where Diana lived until her death.

"Recently Kate told a magazine that she would have loved to have met Diana. When she and William visit Singapore next month they'll go to see an orchid that was named after Princess Diana that Diana herself did not get to see. Back to you." Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

After a wet and windy start to the work week, our weather will be trending toward a drier than normal pattern.

It will be another warm and muggy start to the day, but our skies will be sunny with a few high thin cirrus clouds drifting overhead. Temperatures will be quick to warm as they climb from the upper 70s to the middle 90s during the afternoon.

High pressure will continue to flex its muscle across the Florida Peninsula, thus bringing a more stable atmosphere overhead. We'll see the chance for an isolated shower or storm during the peak heating of the day along the sea breeze as it begins to work its way inland, however many of us will stay hot and dry under partly sunny skies.

Tonight, skies remain mostly clear with lows settling into the middle to upper 70s.

Our hot and mainly dry weather pattern will hold through the holiday weekend with sunny starts and a few spotty showers during the afternoon, while temperatures range from the low to mid 90s.

In the tropics, the remnants of Isaac continue to bring the threat for heavy rainfall across the Mississippi River Valley. Hurricane Kirk and Tropical Storm Leslie will not be a threat to Southwest Florida as both tracks are set to recurve out to sea. Return to index of stories...

FALL TRAVEL DEALS-PKG

THOSE OF YOU PINING FOR A LATE SUMMER GETAWAY. LATER THIS MONTH OR NEXT.PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK FOR BEING SMART.

AFTER-LABOR-DAY TRAVEL HAS BECOME THE MOST PLEASURABLE. OF THE PLEASURE TRAVEL SEASON.

"This is the time when the temperatures are still nice, there are no crowds and you're going to find great bargains.and not just here in the United States but even in the Caribbean and Europe"

IN LONDON, FOR EXAMPLE. HOTELS ARE 60-PERCENT CHEAPER THAN THEY WERE DURING THE OLYMPICS.

"We got all this hotel buildup in London.which are now empty because those crowds are gone.a lot of empty rooms and a lot of good deals"

THE PRICES AT DOMESTIC DESTINATIONS ALSO DROP DRAMATICALLY AFTER THIS WEEKEND.

"Places like Colorado, the theme park destinations. Even some of the city destinations like Chicago and DC 0552

EVEN IN HAWAII, LUXURY HOTELS AND RESORTS WILL BE CHARGING RATES.40-PERCENT LOWER THAN JUST LAST WEEK.

AIRFARES WON'T BE DROPPING MUCH BEFORE OCTOBER. BUT THE LOWER COSTS OF EVERYTHING ELSE CAN OFFSET THAT IN PLACES WHERE THERE'S A MONTH OF SUMMER LEFT.

"Still have excellent weather in that first couple of weeks of September.but the pricing is just so much better"

AND EXPERTS SAY THAT POST-LABOR DAY TRAVEL MAY BE MORE ATTRACTIVELY PRICED THIS YEAR DUE TO THE UNSTABLE ECONOMY.

IT'S ANOTHER ROUND OF FUGITIVE FRIDAY,

TRISH ROUTTE WITH SOUTHWEST FLORIDA CRIME STOPPERS IS HERE NOW. Return to index of stories...

FUGITIVE FRIDAY-5 SS

We're starting off our list this week with a man who, despite the fact that he's been arrested 21 times before in Lee County, just can't absorb the message that crime doesn't pay. Colonel Brockette is on the run - once again - this time for violating his probation on the heels of an arrest for the possession of a gun by a convicted felon. Over the years, Brockette has amassed a lengthy record both here and in Georgia, where he's spent even more time sitting in a jail cell. Among his list of legal malfunctions are charges of aggravated stalking, dealing in stolen property, battery, grand theft auto, drugs and several weapons violations. Detectives believe Brockette is a transient, possibly living in North Fort Myers or Bonita Springs. Born and raised in Fort Myers, Brockette has been known to earn his keep working as a metal scrapper. He is 5'8" and has several tattoos, including a tear drop by his left eye, and the phrase "Follow me, and I'll follow you" on his left forearm.

Also on the run this week is Hector Rico Ortiz, who had a warrant issued for his arrest earlier this week on a long list of criminal mishaps. This 20 year old fugitive has violated his probation following an arrest for 2 counts of burglary and four counts of grand theft. Detectives say Ortiz is known to have violent tendencies, and may be travelling back and forth between the St. Pete area and Lee County area in an attempt to avoid arrest. Ortiz is 5'11", 215 pounds with numerous tattoos, including a six point star on his neck, the phrase "pimpin aint easy" on his left leg and a picture of Ben Franklin with a bandana over his face smack dab in the middle of his chest. Ortiz may be armed, and should definitely be considered dangerous.

Also on the run this week is James Penrose, a Collier County man who apparently likes to drive drunk, crash into stuff then take off before anyone can hold him responsible for his actions. This 45 year old felon is currently on the run for violating terms of his state probation following his third conviction for DUI. Last known to be working for a local moving company, Penrose is a repeat offender, with multiple drunk driving arrests, weapons charges, aggravated battery and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. Although his last reported address was in Golden Gate, deputies think Penrose may be hiding out in the Lehigh Acres area. Penrose is 5'9", 150 pounds and has a tattoo of an eagle on his upper left arm.

And rounding out our list this pre-Labor Day weekend is another repeat drunk driver, James Weaks, wanted for violating his probation after his fourth DUI. This 54 year old fugitive has nine previous arrests in Lee, and several in Brevard County, mostly for drunk driving and driving without a license. Weaks actions has landed him the designation of a registered convicted felon - a title he's definitely earned. Statistics show that the average drunk driver gets behind the wheel while intoxicated an average of 80 times before they're arrested for their first DUI, so with four DUI's on his record, one can only imagine how many times Weaks has done this before… and the likelihood that he's still doing it today. Weaks was last known to be living in central Fort Myers, and upon his arrest, he will be held without bond. Return to index of stories...

KIDS DEADLY ALLERGIES-CLIP VO IN PLASMA

ON THE MEDICAL FRONT THIS AFTERNOON,

MORE KIDS SUFFER FROM POTENTIALLY FATAL ALLERGIES THESE DAYS.

ONE BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY YOU MIGHT NOT EXPECT - AN 'EPI-PEN'.

THE LITTLE DEVICE COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH.

ELLIE MERRITT REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

KIDS DEADLY ALLERGIES-PKG

LUNCH CAN BE TRICKY FOR 6-YEAR OLD ADAM LEE.

"He's had severe food allergy since he was a baby. They sent us for allergy testing when he was 13 months old and it came up with peanut allergy and egg allergy."

PEANUTS ARE STILL A BIG WORRY FOR ADAM'S MOM KAREN.

"Even last year, he was half day kindergarten, so we didn't have to worry about lunch at school. he ate lunch at home."

AND FOR GOOD REASON.

ABOUT 150 PEOPLE DIE EVERY YEAR FROM AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO FOOD.

AND ADAM'S NOT ALONE-- MORE KIDS NOW THAN EVER HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES TO MONITOR.

AND LIKE ADAM-- CARRY EPIPENS WITH THEM WHEREVER THEY GO-- A LIFE SAVING DOSE OF EPINEPHRINE.

"This just gives you a little extra dose, quickly and helps reverse the processes that get set in motion when your immune system overreacts to an allergen."

DR. DJ SCHERZER AT NATIONWIDE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL SEES KIDS WITH DANGEROUS FOOD ALLERGIES IN THE E-R, AND HAS SET OUT TO MAKE SURE MORE PEOPLE-- ESPECIALLY SCHOOL NURSES AND TEACHERS-- KNOW HOW TO USE EPIPENS.

HE SHOWED US--

HOLD FOR 10 SECONDS AND CALL 911.

"Yes-- the risk of doing it is lower than the risk of not doing it."

OFF TO FIRST GRADE-- ADAM ISN'T TAKING ANY CHANCES WITH PEANUTS.

BUT SHOULD HE NEED IT-- KAREN'S CONFIDENT IN THEIR EPIPEN. Return to index of stories...
