ISAAC IS GONE--

BUT THE STORM IS STILL CAUSING BIG PROBLEMS.

OFFICIALS IN LOUISIANA FEAR *NEW* FLOODS--

AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS COULD SPEND DAYS WITHOUT POWER.

IN NEW ORLEANS, PEOPLE ARE SLOWLY RETURNING TO THEIR ROUTINES.

BUT OTHER COMMUNITIES FEAR THE WORST MAY NOT BE OVER.

TAHMAN BRADLEY IS IN LOUISIANA. Return to index of stories...

ISAAC FLOODING AFTERMATH-PKG

Isaac's moving into the nation's midsection todaybut is leaving behind quite

a mess in Louisiana.

From the air, you can see the devastation.

Entire neighborhoods underwater. Flood waters still rising. Hundreds of

miles of coast - a soggy mess.

WE'VE NEVER FLOODED THIS BAD.

These are the faces of desperation. Young and old. Many strandedneeding to

be rescued

WFAA Reporter: How are you feeling?

Girl: Scared.

Mother hugging and kissing him: It's ok babe. It's ok.

At least four people were killed by Isaac -- 3 in Louisiana and 1

Mississippi.

This woman waded through the destruction in search of her father.

GUTMAN -SOT- SO YOU STAYED HERE THINKING THIS WOULD BE SAFE?

WOMAN: YEAH, CAUSE IT USUALLY DON'T FLOOD, DIDN'T FLOOD FOR KATRINA.

Hundreds of thousands today are still without power. More than 15,000

utility workers are on the case in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.

IT'S HORRIBLE LIKE THIS MAN.

Four Gulf states - remain under flashflood warning. They could see an

additional three inches of rain. Return to index of stories...

When word came out the winning ticket for the 3rd largest jackpot in

Powerball history was purchased in tiny Lapeer, Michigan.speculation ran

wild in the town of 10,000 about who the lucky new millionaire was.

MOS SOT:

Who has this winning ticket? I don't know I hope it's one of my regular

customers so he can be happy like us.

MOS SOT:

It's great. I wish it was me.

Well it wasn't her, or the millions of others who played. It was 44 year old

Donald Lawson who stepped forward today to claim the prize.

LAWSON SOT:

"I got on the computer and started looking at the numbers backwards, reading

backwards and I kind of lost my breath."

He bought his ticket at this Sunoco station, about 40 miles north of Detroit

.

LAWSON SOT:

"I walked into the Sunoco station, and usually there ain't nobody up there,

but there was a long line of 5 or 6 people ahead of me something from above

told me to go over there and pick my own numbers. then my hand was guided.

I didn't really pick 'em myself."

Originally from Arkansas, Lawson quit his job as a railroad engineer the day

he found out he had the winning ticket.

LAWSON SOT:

I wanted to travel a lot, and now I can. I can go anywhere in the world I

want, and that's what I'm going to do.

While Lawson said he's going to leave Lapeer, his windfall will still help

the community. Like so many places hit hard by the economy, Lapeer has put

off much needed projects.fixing crumbling bridges and roads. He took a

lump sum payout, totaling 224.6 million dollars and the city gets about 1

percent of that in income tax.

Mayor:

2 and a half million dollars. It's like money from heaven.

LAWSON SOT:

I'm kind of pissed at Uncle Sam Return to index of stories...

Rain or shine-- you still find flowers for Diana at her Palace gates.

It's just hard for those who knew her, like journalist Robert Jobson, to believe it's been 15 years since the world mourned her passing. and came here.

"It was just so-- silent! That's what made it so poignant and sad."

And the memories of Diana that have lasted are the same quiet ones that touched people then.

Reaching out to an AIDS patient. Cradling a child. Walking through minefields. to help their victims.

Today. it's stunning how much Prince William carries her easy manner.

Prince Harry-- has started a foundation for children, in her honor.

They-- her living legacy.

"She made them the boys they are today. Diana insisted they shouldn't be over-pampered. They should live free lives."

Now-- William and Kate are preparing to move into Kensington Palace, where Prince Harry also has an apartment, where they spent their early lives.

And where Diana lived until her death.

"Recently Kate told a magazine that she would have loved to have met Diana. When she and William visit Singapore next month they'll go to see an orchid that was named after Princess Diana that Diana herself did not get to see. Back to you." Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

GREAT WEATHER THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND

What's number one on everyone's mind? Is it going to rain while I'm at the beach for Labor Day.

The chances of that happening are dwindling with each passing hour. Drier air is driving down from the east coast, and it's going to limit our rain coverage. Saturday looks to be the wettest of the next three days albeit will be below average. Areal coverage on Saturday will be 30% and it'll drastically drop to 10% Sunday before easing back up to 20% Monday.

So your weekend plays out like this - lots of sunshine each day - isolated thunderstorms Saturday, mostly dry Sunday, and very few storms on Monday. More sunshine and drier air means hotter temperatures, too, and they'll range from 90 to 95 degrees. Good news, all levels of the atmosphere are being hindered by the drier air which means it will not be as humid and heat indices will stay right at 100 degrees.

The same feature giving us a nice weekend will also play bumper ball with Hurricane Kirk and Tropical Storm Leslie. It's going to act as a buffer and keep them from messing with the U.S. They're what we call "fish" storms because they'll stay over the waters.

The big question in the forecast is when the moisture will return. A couple models bring it in Tuesday, and others bring it back on Wednesday. We're going to side on the former so expect and uptick in storms beginning Tuesday.

Our waters have been rough due to Isaac, but they'll simmer down beginning tomorrow morning.

It's going to be a great weekend, and it'll be much better than the last! Return to index of stories...

that's the only attitude to have, that you're going to be fine

NOT EVEN A POTENTIALLY DEADLY DIAGNOSIS LIKE LUNG CANCER CAN GET CHARLIE PRICE DOWN.

it takes a lot to scare me

CHARLIE GOT THE NEWS LAST NOVEMBER.

DOCTORS ACTED QUICKLY AND AGGRESSIVELY.REMOVING A PORTION OF HIS RIGHT LUNG.

BUT FURTHER TESTS REVEALED MORE CANCER.

SO CHARLIE'S DOCTOR SUGGESTED HE TRY A NEW TREATMENT.

once we are close the lesion, we take the guide out and take the biopsy and also put in the markers

YOU'RE ACTUALLY LOOKING AT A 3-D IMAGE OF A TUMOR IN CHARLIE'S LUNG USING "ELECTROMAGNETIC NAVIGATION BRONCHOSCOPY" OR "ENB."

DR. SUNIL LALLA SAYS THE SYSTEM WORKS JUST LIKE A GPS -- PIN-POINTING THE EXACT LOCATION OF GROWTHS.

previously, by doing a biospy of the lung under regular x-ray, the success rate was about 40%. By doing it with this new technique, it's about 80%

USING A SPECIAL SCOPE -- DOCTORS ARE ABLE TO NOT ONLY ABLE TO LOCATE TUMORS, BUT ALSO PERFORM BIOPSIES, FIND THE BEST WAY TO NAVIGATE TO THE GROWTH, AND PLACE SPECIAL "MARKERS" THAT RADIOLOGISTS USE TO DELIVER TREATMENT RIGHT TO THE SITE OF THE DISEASE.

we're radiating a smaller volume of lung and damaging less amount of tissue that is normal and targeting the abnormal lesion

FOR PATIENTS LIKE CHARLIE, IT'S EXTRA PEACE OF MIND, BUT ALSO MORE CONVIENENT.

they've shortened my treatments just down to 5 treatments, and hopefully that will be enough. I'd rather do five treatments and be done than do five weeks
