GOOD EVENING, I'M JENNIFER TRAMMELL.

STARTING TONIGHT -- A NEW CURFEW IS IN EFFECT FOR FORT MYERS TEENS.

IN SOME CASES, IT'S A TWO HOUR DIFFERENCE, SO PARENTS LISTEN UP.

NBC 2'S GEORGE SOLIS IS LIVE IN FORT MYERS WITH WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. Return to index of stories...

Tonight is the official start of the new curfew. But FORT MYERS POLICE AREN'T out enforcing it to the full extent.JUST yet. Instead they say this holiday day weekend is more about education. Earlier this evening we spoke to both teens and parents to get their reactions to change. Return to index of stories...

THERE ARE NEW RULES IN TOWN --

BUT WE FOUND, NOT EVERY PARENTS KNOWS IT.

Mom of 4 Mindy Ryerson didn't know Fort Myers had a curfew, much less that the times for it had changed. But she's grateful to be educated

36:22 "There's a lot of crime lately, so to keep them safe keep them inside you know keep them out of trouble basically I think it's a good thing that they're doing that."

The new curfew MEANS KIDS under 18 need to be home by nine on week nights and 11 on weekends.

It USED TO BE 11 DURING THE WEEK.AND MIDNIGHT ON THE WEEKEND.

38:26 " parents they'll probably be happy to see their kids you know safe and at home and able to wake up and see their kids the next day."

FORT MYERS CITY COUNCIL VOTED MONDAY FOR THE CURFEW CHANGE. IT'S IN RESPONSE TO A STRING OF VIOLENCE IN THE CITY."

TeenS like 17-year-old Terrance Lamor Peña say they understand the need for the change in curfew.

44:24

"a lot of teenagers nowadays they have like their mentality is somewhere else they just want to fit in so they going to do reckless stuff just to get attention.

Peña says he'd rather be at home safe then be another victim of crime in the city.

43:35

"there's been a lot of shootings and robbings like a lot of ridiculous stuff going on." Return to index of stories...

IT'S JUST PAST 11 NOW -- SO ALL MINORS SHOULD BE OFF THE STREETS.

GAS PRICES-ONCAM

IT'S STARTING TO SEEM LIKE A RITE OF SUMMER TRAVEL.

JUST ABOUT THE TIME A THREE-DAY WEEKEND COMES AROUND.GAS PRICES SUDDENLY GO UP.

IN THIS CASE, WE'VE NEVER SEEN PUMP PRICES THIS HIGH FOR A LABOR DAY WEEKEND. AND THEY TOOK A BIG JUMP THIS WEEK.

NBC'S TOM COSTELLO EXPLAINS WHY. Return to index of stories...

GAS PRICES-PKG

THE LAST GREAT ESCAPE OF SUMMER 2012.

AND IF YOUR MODE OF TRANSPORTATION INVOLVES TIRES.IT TURNS OUT A LABOR DAY GETAWAY HAS NEVER BEEN MORE EXPENSIVE:

THE NATIONAL AVERAGE IS NOW $3.83 A GALLON.

UP 10 CENTS IN A WEEK.

30 CENTS IN A MONTH!

HURRICANE ISAAC GETS MUCH OF THE BLAME.

AS IT TOOK AIM AT LOUISIANA, OIL RIGS, REFINERIES, EVEN A CRITICAL PIPELINE SHUT DOWN.

WHILE THEY ESCAPED UNHARMED, THE DOWN-TIME PUSHED PRICES HIGHER.

ADD-IN A RUPTURED PIPELINE IN WISCONSIN, REFINERY PROBLEMS IN THE MIDWEST, A FIRE AT A CALIFORNIA LAST MONTH AND AN EXPENSIVE SUMMER BLEND.

IT ALL SPELLS HIGHER PRICES.

"American states are with the highest prices we've ever seen them going into Labor Day weekend for much of the united states."

LOOK AT LOS ANGELES, THE AVERAGE IS NOW $4.16 A GALLON.

"Of course. The motor home is just gonna be sitting home this weekend because its just gonna be way too much money to fill it up."

GASBUDDY.COM's HEAT MAP SHOWS THE LEAST TO MOST EXPENSIVE STATES AT THE PUMP.

GREEN TO RED.

FROM A LOW OF $3.51 IN COLORADO.

TO $3.78 IN MASSACHUSETTS.

$3.97 IN NEW YORK.

AND $4.15 IN BOTH CALIFORNIA AND ILLINOIS.THE HIGHEST IN THE COUNTRY.

IN CHICAGO, THEY'RE NEAR $4.34!

"I have to make changes with how i buy food, how I do my bills."

THIS IS INTERESTING:

TRIPLE-A CALCULATES THAT IF YOU'RE DRIVING FROM ATLANTA TO KANSAS CITY IN A 2008 TOYOTA VAN , YOU'LL PAY ABOUT $190 IN FUEL.

SAME VEHICLE DRIVING FROM NEW YORK TO CHICAGO , YOU'LL PAY ROUGHLY $200.

.DRIVING FROM SPOKANE, WA TO PALM SPRINGS.ABOUT $358 IN FUEL.

"The good news: gas prices aren't expected to STAY this high. As refineries switch to the less expensive WINTER blend and inventories rise, pump prices should come down."

"Between Thanksgiving and Christmas , the national average range may drop to the mid- $3 range, and certainly in some areas, even lower than that."

BUT IN THE SHORT-TERM, GETTING 'ROUND IS GOING TO COST A LITTLE MORE.

IT'S A LESSON IN SOUTH ALABAMA HISTORY ALL MIXED UP IN SAND AND SURF.

"I am stoked that it is well preserved as it is."

"It's just really incredible to see history laying here right here on Fort Morgan, on the beach."

LOCALS SAY THE MYSTERY SHIP DATES BACK TO THE CIVIL WAR ERA.

A CLIPPER BUILT OF IRON AND MASSIVE SLABS OF WOOD.

A RARE EXHIBIT ONLY SEEN WHEN THE WEATHER GETS ROUGH.

"The wood, and the casings, and the iron and everything they used, it just makes you wonder why things fall apart now days and things were so well preserved then."

JENNY TUCKER SAYS IT'S SOMETHING SHE AND HER SON SAW LAST TIME A STORM BLEW THROUGH HERE.

"My co-worker said he saw it on the Internet, a picture of this, and I said, 'Oh my gosh, that's got to be the same boat that we saw years ago.'"

THOUGH MUCH OF THE SHIP'S HISTORY REMAINS UNEARTHED, ITS MANY VISITORS FIND THEMSELVES PIECING THINGS TOGETHER.

"There's no telling, could it have been something to help protect Fort Morgan here."

"Who it might have belonged to, who was sailing on it, how many people, what was the purpose, what happened, why did it crash, why did it sink? I don't know, it makes you wonder what's out there. What else is under the water that we don't see." Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

MORE SUNSHINE, LESS RAIN THIS WEEKEND

This will go down as one of the best Labor Day weekends we've had in quite a while.

Many are planning cookouts, going to the beach, or going out on the boat. No matter what your plans may be - the weather will cooperate.

Sunday will be sunny and mostly dry. Our winds are coming from the northeast which is helping drive a weak cold front in our direction. Behind that front lies very dry air which will greatly reduce our rain chances.

For you boaters expect winds to be at 10 knots and from the northeast. This will cause the seas to be up to 2 feet, and inland water ways will have a light chop. Gulf waters are beginning to warm up, too, as they sit at 86 degrees.

Monday moisture begins to creep back into the area, but the chance for rain is still low, around 20%. So, Labor Day itself calls for mostly sunny skies with a few stray downpours. They will be very brief in nature lasting up to 30 minutes.

Dry air tends to warm up quicker than moist air, and for that reason we'll see cooler overnight temperatures and warmer afternoon temperatures for a couple days. For instance, morning lows will be around 75 both Sunday and Monday, and come 3 PM in the afternoon highs will be near 94 to 95 degrees. With humidity levels being low I expect the heat index to only rise to 100.

The tropics are still going strong. We have Kirk and Leslie, but neither are of concern to us. They're going to stay in the open waters of the Atlantic and will not effect southwest Florida or the U.S.
