THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"Some tweaks to Tuesday's weather"
After a pretty quiet and sunny Labor Day weekend, we'll get your Tuesday going with more sunshine along with warm and humid conditions. We do expect a couple subtle changes in today's weather compared to what we had over the last few days.
First, rain chances get a little nudge from a disturbance over Southeast Florida that will usher in some additional moisture and make the atmosphere slightly more unstable. This should only translate into a few more afternoon and evening storms for us, most of which will develop inland. However, it's possible we could see some of this activity drift back toward the coast this evening or tonight, but coverage will stay pretty isolated.
The other change we'll observe today is a shift in wind direction, signaling a weather pattern change that will remain locked in place through the remainder of the week.
Instead of our wind flowing out of the northeast for most of the day, an onshore flow will set up this afternoon, and this will become even more pronounced Wednesday. The southwesterly flow will introduce the possibility of a few morning showers near the coast tomorrow morning, and the door will stay open for some spotty morning rain over the next several days. The chance for a few isolated storms will then continue for the urban corridor through the early afternoon before most of the rain gets carried inland later in the day.
Another change we'll start to notice with the gulf breeze developing is temperatures won't be quite as warm for the second half of the week, so look for highs in the upper 80s to low 90s starting Wednesday, and this trend should continue through the upcoming weekend as well.
Also coming this weekend is another little boost in our rain chances as more moisture builds in from the northwest. This, combined with the onshore flow, will keep the morning and afternoon shower threat going with the rain covering a littler more ground.
In the tropics, Tropical Storm Leslie continues to churn and move slowly to the north. The storm may produce some higher surf for the U.S. East Coast throughout the week before it approaches Bermuda this weekend. With continued movement to the north, Leslie will not be an issue for Southwest Florida. We also have a new tropical depression in the open Atlantic that could strengthen into Tropical Storm Michael later today. This system will be another fish storm, though, with an eventual turn to the northeast later this week.

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS --
ALTHOUGH FLU SEASON TRADITIONALLY LASTS FROM OCTOBER TO MAY, MOST CLINICS GET THEIR SUPPLIES BY EARLY SEPTEMBER AND HAVE THE VACCINES READY FOR PATIENTS BY THE END OF THE MONTH.
BUT THIS YEAR, THE VACCINES ARE ALREADY OUT AND MANY PEOPLE ARE ASKING, IF I GET A FLU SHOT THIS EARLY, WILL I BE PROTECTED THE WHOLE SEASON?
ACCORDING TO THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL THE ANSWER IS YES. THE VACCINE WILL GIVE YOU FULL COVERAGE FOR THE ENTIRE FLU SEASON. IN FACT, THE CDC RECOMMENDS THAT PEOPLE GET THEIR SHOTS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BECAUSE THE FLU VIRUS CAN'T READ A CALENDAR, AND THIS YEAR, THERE COULD BE EARLY OUTBREAKS, SO WHY NOT BE PROTECTED?
THE CDC SUGGESTS THAT EVERYONE SIX MONTHS OF AGE AND OLDER GET A YEARLY VACCINE. AS OF NOW, THERE IS VERY LITTLE SEASONAL FLU GOING AROUND, BUT HEALTH EXPERTS SAY, YOU CAN NEVER TELL WHEN THE FLU WILL HIT. BETTER TO BE PREPARED.
FOR TODAY'S HEALTH MINUTE, I'M MELISA RANEY.
