GOOD MORNING-1 SHOT

GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO NBC-2 NEWS TODAY.

I'M JENNIFER TRAMMELL.

TODAY IS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH.

WE'LL HAVE A LOOK AT TODAY'S TOP STORIES IN JUST A MINUTE.

BUT FIRST METEOROLOGIST JASON DUNNING JOINS US WITH YOUR FIRST ALERT FORECAST. Return to index of stories...

TODAY'S WEATHER-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Our forecast stays mostly sunny and dry today, but increasing rain chances are on the horizon as a weather system approaches late this weekend into early next week.

Before we get to a few rainier days, though, we've got some great weather in the works today.

We'll start your Saturday off with a clear sunny sky and temperatures comfortably in the 70s. Temperatures will then easily warm into the upper 80s and low 90s this afternoon with abundant sunshine. Coastal communities will stay on the lower end of the temperature scale with highs there in the upper 80s. As you go deeper inland, afternoon temperatures will be closer to the lower 90s.

The breeze will be a bit stronger today with some gusts in the 15-20 mph range. Southwesterly winds will be coming in faster at the beaches where there's a moderate risk of strong rip currents from late this morning through this afternoon. Seas and open waters will stay between 2-3 feet, and inland water will be moderately choppy.

There's an off chance of a stray shower today, but the vast majority of the area will stay dry. The best chance for an isolated shower this morning will be close to the coast until the sea breeze carries the main shower risk deep inland this afternoon. Overall, the chance of any one place seeing a shower will be at 20% or less.

Our sky will stay mostly clear this evening and tonight, but there is a possibility of some coastal showers late in the night as a weak weather system tries to slide in from the north. This system will also open the door for some widely scattered showers Sunday morning, especially for the northern tier of the viewing area near Port Charlotte.

Rain chances will be a few notches higher Sunday with the northern half of the viewing area seeing the best chance for rain. Showers will tend to favor coastal areas earlier in the day and then inland areas during the afternoon. Even with the extra showers around, we still expect a decent amount of sunshine.

Monday and Tuesday look to be the wettest days of the next seven. A weak front will settle right on top of us, which will bring a little more moisture and instability. Rain chances will stay close to 50% these days before some drier air moves in Wednesday to cut our rain chances down considerably.

We still have two names storms in the tropics, Leslie and Michael. Michael is really just a conversation piece since it will stay well out at sea. Leslie, too, will probably not directly impact land but will skirt by Bermuda Sunday and then possibly move over Nova Scotia next week as a sub-tropical storm. Aside from bringing some high surf to the U.S. east coast, Leslie is not a threat to the U.S. Return to index of stories...

So lethal it can fire more than 600 rounds a minute

SOT: Retired Colonel Stephen Ganyard

"This is not just a mission where its just a royal being pushed off to the

side in a non-dangerous sort of mission. He is right in the thick of it. He

is doing the most important job that any pilot in the coalition can do in

Afghanistan."

VO:

But THAT mission comes with serious risk. ABC News obtained this exclusive

footage of a helicopter crash last week. In the past month alone, four

coalition helicopters have crashed, killing fifteen foreign troops. The

Taliban claim to have shot them all down

SOT: Stephen Ganyard

"Any time you spend a lot of time with bad guys shooting at you there's

always a danger of being brought down."

GOOD MORNING-ON CAM

GOOD MORNING, I'M JENNIFER TRAMMELL.

TODAY IS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH.

THANKS FOR JOINING US FOR NBC2 NEWS TODAY.

WE'LL GET RIGHT TO THOSE TOP STORIES IN JUST A MINUTE,

BUT FIRST, JASON DUNNING HAS YOUR WEEKEND FORECAST. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

SACRIFICE. COMMITMENT. SUCCESS. COMMON WORDS THAT ARE SEEN AND HEARD THROUGHOUT THE NAPLES FOOTBALL PROGRAM. WORDS THAT TOOK ON NEW MEANING FOR 3 EAGLES PLAYERS

"this mission trip really opened myh eyes. they were telling me how it changes your life. Every year it's a big reality check."

THIS SUMMER FRENDLI NAPO. TREVOR HOBBS AND CAVY JOSEPH LEFT TRADED THE COMFORTS OF NAPLES BEHIND. FOR THE POOR, EYE-OPENING CONDITIONS OF TIJUANA MEXICO.

"and then getting down to smaller parts of the cities, everything is a lot worse than it already is in the big cities. Just a giant shock, you're kind of numb."

BUT SOON THE SHOCK TURNED INTO SYMPATHY. AND SYMPATHY INTO SUCCESS. BUILDING HOMES FROM THE GROUND UP… AS PART OF THE AMOR MINISTRIES.

"you have no machinery, everything you do you have to do with hand or saw or hammer. It's not like America where you just go to Home Depot, say I need this and I need that."

THOUSANDS OF MILES FROM NAPLES… DOING HARD LABOR IN THE HOT SUN… BUILDING HOMES FOR COMPLETE STRANGERS… SOUNDS TOUGH… BUT FOR TREVOR, CAVY AND FRENDLI… THE TOUGHEST PART…WAS ACTUALLY SAYING GOODBYE…

"leaving the family because you get so close with them you work with them, you see them everyday and their kidsjust interact with you."

"so when you tell all the things you experienced throughout the whole trip, at the end people started breaking down and crying because it's a hard experience, it really is."

THEY MAY HAVE LEFT MEXICO BEHIND BUT THE LESSON THEY LEARNED WILL LAST A LIFETIME

"taught me not to take things for granted because here, we say we need things and that but we don't really need it, it's just a want."

"Compared to other parts of the world, I think I'm blessed."
