The report says since 9-11 some hospitals have been lax in securing the
dangerous materials that terrorists could use to create a radiological or
dirty bomb.
NATS
The G-A-O has warned congress before about lapses at the hospitals. many
of which routinely use equipment containing radioactive materials to treat
cancer patients
ALOISE SOT: "Although we realize how important these facilities and
equipment is, it has to be secured"
This morning the new report identifies more than 1500 hospitals as having
high risk radiological sources. A G-A-O review of 26 found some gaping
lapses of security
- At one facility A device containing potentially lethal radioactive cesium
was stored behind a door with a combination lock, but the combination was
clearly written on the door frame.
- At another, a machine containing dangerous amounts of cesium was stored
just down the hall from a loading dock.near an unsecured window
At least 500 people had unescorted access to radiological materials at a
third facility
The G-A-O bluntly says "IN THE HANDS OF TERRORISTS" THESE "COULD BE USED TO PRODUCE A SIMPLE AND CRUDE BUT POTENTIALLY
DANGEROUS WEAPON."
Which can spread contamination.

WEATHER IS COMING UP.
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Rain chances across Southwest Florida will be on the higher side again today, but it looks as though most of the showers and storms will hold off until the afternoon.
We still have the remnants of a weakening cool front over Central and South Florida, which will serve as the main trigger for those scattered afternoon and evening downpours.
The good news is we don't expect to see cloudy skies all day. In fact, we'll even enjoy a fair amount of sunshine this morning with only a few isolated showers and patchy clouds developing close to the coast. Our temperatures will start off in the mid to upper 70s and then climb into the upper 80s by midday.
As we get closer to noon, showers will start developing as the atmosphere heats up. Rain and storm will continue to build and develop as the afternoon rolls along, resulting in about a 60% coverage of rain. The favored locations for rain this afternoon will be along the urban corridor and along the coast.
One change we'll notice today is the wind direction. On Monday our winds were directed out of the southwest, but now the flow has shifted more easterly. The change in the steering winds will also change the movement of the rain, so instead of the showers moving from west to east , today's rain will drift from east to west. We also notice a fairly stiff breeze at time through the afternoon with some gusts up to 20 mph.
As we work into this evening and tonight, the rain will begin moving offshore. Our sky will gradually clear through the night, and temperatures should manage get slightly cooler with lows in the mid to low 70s with even some upper 60s north and inland.
We'll still be in store for more sun Wednesday through Friday as slightly drier air trickles into the area. We'll still be in line to receive some afternoon and evening rain, but coverage should be pretty isolated. Our afternoon highs these days will reach the low 90s, and our overnight temperatures will be fairly comfortable with lows in the mid to low 70s.
By the upcoming weekend, we'll get back to seeing a slightly better coverage of afternoon and evening storms, but overall we'll still see lots of sunshine along with highs close to 90.

WHILE THE STUDY DID SAY IT WAS FEASIBLE. IT DID NOT CONSIDER THE COST OF BUILDING ALL THE TURBINES OR THE PRACTICALITY OF WHERE THEY WOULD ALL GO.
