FIRST WEATHER-ANIBOXES-OMNI

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

FANTASTIC WEEKEND AHEAD

As expected we saw more sunshine than yesterday. That's going to translate into a pretty great weekend, too!

The old frontal boundary we've been talking about is finally fading away. It's been meandering around south Florida, the Gulf, and part of the south central U.S. It was the focus for our weather for many days, and it kept the moisture locked in place. Consequently, we saw a lot of clouds and periods of rain.

The weather conditions are improving as a result of the front falling apart.

This weekend looks just fine to be outdoors. Even more sunshine will be available! Our winds are going to be light and from the east. When our winds are from the east and the sea breeze begins - the east wind will pin the sea breeze along the urban corridor. We expect that to happen during the afternoon hours, and that will be the area our storms are concentrated.

Will it be a washout? No, but you will definitely see some heavy rain and hear a rumble of thunder during the late afternoon. It will not hinder any of your plans.

Winds start coming from the south early next week. Monday will be the day of transition, too. Winds from the south-southwest spell out morning showers and interior afternoon storms. This will begin Monday and last through midweek. Simply put - keep the umbrella at hand.

Temperatures will be right around our average this week! Lower 90s are in the forecast.

When it comes to tropical weather, we see no concerns for southwest Florida! Return to index of stories...

YOU CONSIDER THE SOURCE. I MEAN SOME OF THEM IF THEY EVER HAD A PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAM THEY PROBABLY WOULDN'T GET TO CLEAN THE MEN'S ROOM. THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL.

IN AN INTERVIEW LAST WEEK WITH THE NAPLES DAILY NEWS-THIS WAS HUGHES RESPONSE TO A QUESTION ABOUT THE EAST NAPLES FIRE UNION'S PROBLEM, WITH FIRE COMMISSIONERS BENEFITS.

TODAY WE WENT TO FIND OUT IF HE STILL FEELS THIS WAY.

REPORTER:WHO WERE YOU REFERRING TO WHEN YOU SAID THAT COMMENT?

HUGHES:IN GENERAL.

A GENERAL STATEMENT.BUT FOR SOME, IT SEEMED SPECIFIC.

REPORTER: SOME OF THE FIRE FIGHTERS MAY TAKE IT AS YOU WERE SPECIFICALLY TARGETING THEM.

HUGHES: BASICALLY IF THE SHOE FITS, WEAR IT.

THE UNION'S RESPONSE.

THIS IS FRUSTRATING AND SADDENING THAT SOMEONE WHO CALLS HIMSELF A FIRE COMMISSIONER WOULD SAY THAT ABOUT THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO DEDICATE THEIR LIVES TO SERVING THE PUBLIC.

HUGHES-WHO IS UP FOR RE-ELECTION- SAYS A TOUGH ECONOMY HAS FORCED THE EAST NAPLES FIRE UNION VOICE THEIR CONCERNS ABOUT THE BENEFITS COMMISSIONERS RECEIVE.

BUT HIS OPPONENT, JEFF PAGE SAYS IT'S NO EXCUSE FOR HIS SHOCKING COMMENTS.

I WAS HOPING THAT HE JUST FORGOT HE WAS BEING TAPED AND REALLY DIDN'T MEAN TO SAY IT.

BUT HUGHES-WHO HAS BEEN IN HIS SEAT FOR 12 YEARS- INSISTS HE DID MEAN TO SAY IT.

DO YOU MAKE ANY APOLOGIES FOR YOUR STATEMENT?

NO. I FEEL THAT WAY.

THE NEW CROSSWALK.

In all of Lee County, there's only two crosswalks like this one. And it's part of the county's plan to improve pedestrian safety.

THE CROSSWALKS ARE DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS BECAUSE OF THE FLASHING LIGHT ON THE PEDESTRIAN SIGN.

THERE'S ONE AT HICKORY BOULEVARD AND FORESTER DRIVE AND ANOTHER AT HICKORY BOULEVARD WHERE IT BECOMES ESTERO BOULEVARD.

These two locations were selected based upon observations that these were two very busy locations where people are crossing and a lot of traffic on Hickory Boulevard.

WHEN A PERSON HITS THE BUTTON TO CROSS THE STREET.

A YELLOW STROBE FLASHES FOR 15 TO 20 SECONDS.

BLUMROSEN USED TO CROSS THE ROAD BEFORE THE CROSSWALK.
