Its a usual route for a 13 year old fort Myers girl. She was riding her bike through her neighborhood around 6:30 Monday night---but what was unusual was the man following her.

Take sound

Victim

"when I looked back I saw a guy staring at me and it freaked me out."

Instead of heading the way she normally goes home, the 13 headed toward palm beach boulevard--a spot where many people she thought would notice her.

Take sound

Victim

"I kept going straight and I was like I'm going to go where everybody is at so I'll be safe where everybody is looking."

But when she had to stop at the intersection, the girl says the man grabbed her arm and her bike--not letting her go. Then he said something to her she will never forget.

Take sound

Victim

"he said he killed someone last night and the next one was me."

With no one stepping in to help, the 13 year old knew she had to save herself.

Take sound

Victim

"so I started defending myself and I punched him, which he already had a cut right on his forehead. And I guess when I punched him it opened back up and it started bleeding."

As he let go to wipe the blood from his face, the 13 year old rode her bike across the street and saw a friend. She used his phone to call her mom. After reporting to police what happened, she says she won't be riding her bike anytime soon and wants other kids to know the dangers of what could happen on an ordinary bike ride.

Take sound

Victim

"I would tell them exactly what happened to me and to be careful around people that you don't know. Return to index of stories...

COLLIER ABSENTEE VOTING-ONCAM

THE COLLIER COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE IS ENCOURAGING VOTERS TO USE ABSENTEE BALLOTS IN THE UPCOMING GENERAL ELECTION.

EXPERTS SAY HIGH VOTER TURN OUT AND A LENGTHY BALLOT COULD MEAN LONG LINES AT THE POLLS.

SO FAR NEARLY 37 THOUSAND PEOPLE HAVE REQUESTED BALLOTS FOR THE NOVEMBER SIXTH ELECTION.

TO VOTE YOU MUST BE REGISTERED BY OCTOBER 9TH --

AND REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT BY OCTOBER 31ST.

Collier County Elections Office Encourages Voters to

Vote by Absentee in the 2012 General Election

Voter fatigue and long lines can be diminished

if more voters choose to vote by mail

Collier County, FL-September 24, 2012: Due to a lengthy ballot and anticipation of high voter turnout for the upcoming General Election, the Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office is strongly urging voters to consider voting via mail/absentee ballot. Voting by mail/absentee allows voters to avoid long lines at the polls and alleviate voter fatigue due to the 3-sheet, 6-sided ballot.

Absentee ballots, once reserved for voters who could not make it to an early voting site or the polls on Election Day, are available to any registered voter in Florida. If voting by mail/absentee, voters can vote in the comfort of their home, or wherever they are located throughout the world, and can read the ballot at their own pace. To date, over 36,500 Collier County voters have requested absentee ballots for the November 6th General Election.

"Ever since Florida enacted the 'no-excuse' absentee voting law, more and more Collier County voters have been voting by mail," said Jennifer Edwards, Collier County Supervisor of Elections. "This trend is beneficial to the voting process in our county, especially to voters who wish to vote at their leisure."

Voters can request absentee ballots online via the CollierVotes.com "Vote by Mail" web page or by phone to the Supervisor of Elections at 239-252-8450. Requests for ballots to be mailed to voters must be made by 5 p.m., October 31st. After that date, voters can pick up their ballots at the Supervisor of Elections office after calling in their request.

Voters must complete and return their absentee ballots to the Supervisor of Elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day. If returning ballots via mail, voters should note that the return postage cost will be $0.65. Mail/Absentee ballots will be confirmed by comparing the signature on the returned ballot envelope with the signature in the voter registration file.

For additional absentee voting requirements, visit the CollierVotes.com "Mail/Absentee" information page. Citizens who are not yet registered to vote must do so before October 9th in order to participate in the General Election. For more details, and to update your voter information, visit www.CollierVotes.com or call the Supervisor of Elections office at 252-8450.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

CLOUDS CONTINUE - SHOWERS ON THE WAY

A lot of moisture continues to ride over south Florida and we can expect skies to stay mostly cloudy tonight. The temperatures will drop to the lower 70's tonight as only a few showers pop up on radar after sunset. There is a frontal boundary still draped across the area and this front will gradually move toward us tomorrow. This would argue for more showers on Wednesday, and possibly a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Although it's not clear-cut in the computer models for tomorrow, I would not be surprised to see a few showers before noon as well. Our warm and humid weather will continue tomorrow with a high in the upper 80's - just shy of 90 degrees.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week it appears that we have several more days of variably cloudy skies and scattered rain showers or storms. With a bit more sunshine in play we should top out around 90 on Thursday, Friday and through the weekend. The long-range forecast shows another front moving in on Monday next week. Right now it looks like this would mean more showers next week but not cooler weather or a drop in humidity. Return to index of stories...

STUDENTS GET HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE USING SOFTWARE COMMONLY USED AMONG VIDEO GAME COMPANIES.

It is used to create elements for popular video games.

CORAZON GOROSPE TEACHES STUDENTS GAME DESIGN, MECHANICS AND PLOT DEVELOPMENT.

NATS

IN THE INTRODUCTORY CLASS STUDENTS START BY CREATING SCENES THAT MIGHT APPEAR IN A GAME LIKE AN ISLAND.

NATS

AND CHARACTERS LIKE ROBOTS.

We started off creating a normal head, eyes, mouth, stuff like that.

AS THEY ADVANCE THROUGH THE 4 YEAR PROGRAM.

THEY WORK UP TWO DESIGNING 2-DIMENSIONAL GAMES;

AND CAN GRADUATE WITH AN INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION IN 3-D MAX.

THAT MAKES THEM MORE ATTRACTIVE TO SCHOOLS LIKE FULL SAIL UNIVERSITY IN ORLANDO - WHICH IS WELL KNOWN FOR ITS ART, MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT DEGREES.

It's like if they have a good portfolio, they could actually show that to some schools and colleges will be interested in them and they could get like a little financial aid scholarships.

AND JOBS MOST LIKELY WILL BE WAITING FOR THOSE COLLEGE GRADS. ACCORDING TO THE BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS, EMPLOYMENT FOR ANIMATORS IS EXPECTED TO GROW BY 8 PERCENT FROM 2010 TO 2020. THE GROWTH WILL BE DUE TO AN INCREASED DEMAND FOR ANIMATION AND VISUAL EFFECTS FOR TELEVISION, MOVIES, AND VIDEO GAMES.

SO FAR ACOSTA HAS MADE A FEW CHARACTERS.
