Charred memories are all that's left- after a blaze barreled through this Edison Avenue home.

Tanner Lucas was the first to know when he was startled awake.

Lucas

34:26-30

I could feel the smoke in my eyes and a burning in my throat.

The 17 year old jumped from bed and rushed to his parents room.

As soon as my dad realized what was going on - he told us to get on the ground.

The three crawled away from the flames - toward the corner of the house, making their escape through this window an over a fence.

Lucas

39:32 - 37

I don't feel like a hero. I did what I had to to keep everyone safe.

But fire marshall Kenn Bennett says it's true.

Because of only one fire alarm inside the house - that didn;t go off when the family needed it the most.

Take Sot

Bennett

Smoke has a tendency to cause people to go into a deep sleep. If they don't wake up because of the alarm, they'll die of smoke inhalation.

As the family begins to pick up clean the pieces and start all over - they're thankful this morning didn't end differently.

Lucas

34:14-16

We're all safe - that's what really matters. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

P

NICE WEEKEND IN STORE

If you're wanting to get outside and play a little golf, go to the beach, or maybe go fishing - do it this weekend. Heavy rains are moving in Monday, and that will put a stranglehold on your plans next week!

As I expected today was gorgeous. There was nothing to worry about weather wise unless you lost the shades.

Saturday and Sunday will be just as great. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast, and highs in the lower 90s. Could we see an isolated shower or thunderstorm? Yes, but not so much on Saturday. The best chance for rain this weekend will be on Sunday.

Sunday will also serve as our transition. There will still be a lot of sun, but there will be more clouds.

Overall it's going to be a spectacular weekend, but get ready for next week.

Our winds are shifting to the southwest due to a frontal boundary stalling out to our north. That's going to draw up a lot of moisture. We will see intervals of rain all day long from Monday through Friday. They'll start in the in the morning and last through the afternoon, evening, and possibly after midnight.

The wettest of will be Tuesday and Wednesday.

As a result highs will stay in the 80s! Return to index of stories...
