THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
We'll wrap up the month of September on a high note in the weather department as bright, sunny skies dominate yet another day.
With that said, we'll still keep a chance of rain in the forecast as a few isolated showers develop during the afternoon and evening, but the rain shouldn't cover a whole lot of ground.
Here's how our Sunday should set up: the first part of the day will pretty much stay rain free; our sky will stay nice and sunny with temperatures starting in the 70s and warming to near 90 by midday. By the middle of the afternoon and through the evening, a few pockets of heavy rain and storms will develop, but the chance of any one spot getting hit by rain will be around 30%. We're just not expecting a whole lot of rain today with our atmosphere staying somewhat stable and tranquil.
Like last night, a few storms may linger past sunset, especially for locations deeper inland. Otherwise, look for a few clouds to hang around overnight with temperatures cooling to the mid 70s.
We'll start to notice some changes in our weather by Monday as a weather system approaches from the northwest. Ahead of this weather system, an onshore flow will develop across Southwest Florida, which will usher in a decent amount of tropical moisture. While we don't expect a complete washout from this weather pattern, we do expect to see more cloud cover along with a better chance of rain, not just for Wednesday but also for most of the upcoming week.
One thing to prepare for during the first half of the week is the potential for an earlier start to the rain, which we often see with our winds coming off the Gulf. Some mid to late morning shower activity will be possible Monday through Wednesday, but the good news for those with outdoor afternoon plans is the bulk of the afternoon and evening rain will get pushed deeper inland.
By Thursday, we'll get back to seeing our afternoon showers and storms, which should be fairly numerous considering all the moisture we'll have around the area. Higher than normal rain chances look to continue through the end of the upcoming week and into next weekend as well.

THIS WEEK MARKS ONE YEAR SINCE A YOUNG FATHER OF TWO WAS GUNNED DOWN AT A FORT MYERS APARTMENT COMPLEX.
THE KEY TO CLOSURE LIES IN THE HANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE INFORMATION, BUT HAVE NEGLECTED TO TELL POLICE.
TRISH ROUTTE WITH CRIME STOPPERS HAS THE STORY.
Return to index of stories...
Looking at pictures of Nic Willis, you see a father beaming in the presence of his two boys, a beloved son, and a friend to so many whom he would - without question - give the shirt off his back to. But with the shot of a bullet last year, this generous young man lost his life.
Det. Charles Newell - "Truly innocent. He was doing a couple of people a favor by giving them a ride home. He drops them off and gets killed."
26 year old Willis was wrapping up his day at work, when he dropped his girlfriend and 3 other friends off at the Jones Walker Apartment complex in Fort Myers. Moments later, this enterprising young man, who was minding his own business, would take a fatal shot to the head - a wound which would take his young life.
Det. Newell - "His girlfriend was still sitting in the truck, she wasn't paying attention. She basically heard the shots and ducked."
Trish Routte: Witness apathy is a continuing problem throughout Southwest Florida. And it's because people refuse to step up to the plate and help police and tell them what they know. Because of that, families like Nic's are still grieving and have no sense of closure.
Det. Newell - "We did a neighborhood canvas, and we got some decent information from a few people."
Nic's mom Carrie says she can't believe that someone would take her son's life - a young man who extended his generosity and compassion to countless others. Every Sunday since Nic's passing, she's posted different photos of her son on Facebook - helping keep Nic's memory alive, and to hopefully encourage someone who knows what happened that rainy night to come forward.
Det. Newell - "Nic had two small children, he wasn't doing anything wrong and he didn't deserve to get shot."
Now, the ball is in the public's court to help police find Nic's killer. A cash reward lies in wait for anyone who can provide that pivotal information, but more importantly, it's just the right thing to do for a father whose family deserves the right to see Nic's killer brought to justice.
For Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, I'm Trish Routte.

FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
