Today's Weather Story
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
The pipeline of deep tropical moisture that brought so much rain Tuesday is still flowing through Southwest Florida, keeping a good chance for scattered showers and storms in our forecast.
The good news for those ready for some drier weather is the rain won't be as widespread today, and in fact, we expect to see much drier weather this morning compared to Tuesday morning. With that said, some patches of showers will still be possible in spots this morning, but the bulk of the morning rain should stay north of the area.
As the atmosphere heats up late this morning and into the afternoon, more showers and storms will start to build and develop. Like yesterday, some of the rain will be quite heavy, and we'll even see thunderstorms in the mix, too. Rain amounts could potentially exceed 1-2 inches in areas that get hit by downpours multiple times.
A strong steering flow from south to north will keep the rain that develops moving northward pretty swiftly, and we'll continue to squeeze in lots of dry, sunny spells in between the passing downpours. Overall, our rain chances will be close to 60%, so most of us should expect to see rain at some point during the day, if not many points.
With so much moisture feeding into the area, clouds will be plentiful again, but look for sunshine to mix in at times. The rain and cloud cover will keep a cap on our high temperatures with most spots expected to warm into the mid to upper 80s.
A few showers will continue to roam into Southwest Florida this evening and tonight in scattered fashion, and the air will stay quite mild and muggy once again. Low temperatures should only cool into the mid to upper 70s through the overnight into early Thursday morning.
Thursday will be the day we start to see improvements, but scattered showers and storms will still make an appearance. The change we'll notice is a trend away from the morning rain with the best chance of rain coming during the afternoon and evening. The rain coverage will also drop a bit, going from 60% today to 40% Thursday. We also expect to see more sunshine and as a result, temperatures will warm into the low 90s.
Friday will feature another round of scattered afternoon and evening rain, but the first half of the day will be sunny and mostly dry; afternoon highs will climb into the low 90s.
As we head into the upcoming weekend, expect a pretty characteristic weather pattern across Southwest Florida with morning sun, afternoon storms, and highs staying in the low 90s.

Weather Trends
