TALKING POLITICS TODAY.
34 DAYS UNTIL THE NOVEMBER ELECTION.
FRESH OUT OF LAST NIGHT'S PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE,
BOTH CANDIDATES ARE BACK OUT ON THE TRAIL HOPING TO CASH IN ON THE POST-DEBATE BUZZ.
DANIELLE LEIGH REPORTS.
Return to index of stories...
REPUBLICAN MITT ROMNEY MAY HAVE SECURED EXACTLY WHAT HE NEEDED OUT OF THIS FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE. A FRESH LOOK FOR UNDECIDED VOTERS.
"He laid out a very clear choice -- and a big choice. And that's what this election is about."
THE CANDIDATES SPARRED ON KEY ISSUES THIS ELECTION: TAXES, JOB GROWTH AND MEDICARE.
Presidential candidate :xx-:xx
"I'd rather have private plan. I'd just as soon not have the government telling
me what kind of health care i get. I'd rather be able to have an insurance company -
if i dont like them - I can get rid of them and find a different insurance company."
"Every study has shown that medicare has lower administrative costs then private
insurance does. Which is why seniors are generally pretty happy with it.
And private insurers have to make a profit."
EVEN ADVISORS TO PRESIDENT OBAMA ADMIT ROMNEY DID WELL.
"I give him credit for a strong performance."
THE DEBATE WAS ONE OF THE MOST SUBSTANTIVE IN RECENT HISTORY.
NOW DEMOCRATS HOPE TO SEIZE ON THE DETAILS TO ATTACK ROMNEY MOVING FORWARD.
"Are we going to hold the government accountable for his fraudulent positions?
Yes we are going to do that."
OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN IS CONTINUING AN ARGUMENT THAT ROMNEY WILL INITIATE 5 TRILLION DOLLARS IN TAX CUTS FAVORING THE WEALTHY.
"Governor Romney's proposal - that he's been promoting for 18 months - is for a 5 trillion dollar cut."
Presidential Nominee :xx-:xx
"Virtually everything he just said about my tax plan is INaccurate."
MEANWHILE. ROMNEY'S CAMPAIGN IS PLEASED.
"Governor Romney was clearly very much in command of the facts last night and had solutions."
HOPING TO BUILD ON THAT CALM COOL CONFIDENCE. THAT CAME OUT. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A WHILE.
WE'VE YET TO SEE WHETHER ROMNEY'S PERFORMANCE WILL AFFECT HIS STANDING IN THE NATIONAL POLLS. WHERE HE'S BEEN FACING A DEFICIT FOR WEEKS.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"A bit more sun, with afternoon downpours"
The plume of deep tropical moisture that sat across Southwest Florida over the last couple of days, continues to push away from the peninsula giving a slight improvement to our weather.
The airmass across the area remains warm and humid, therefore it will be a muggy to start to our Thursday morning. Our skies will be a bit sunnier along with mainly dry conditions and that will keep temperatures on warming trend into the upper 80s to low 90s during the afternoon.
Expect a mix of sun and clouds today, along with a scattering of downpours during the late afternoon and lingering into the evening hours. With our steering winds taking more of an easterly turn, the seabreeze will stay pinned closer to home with showers and storms more than likely favoring the urban corridor. The rain activity will not be as widespread as the last few days, in fact rain prospects will be down to about 50%.
A few showers will linger across Southwest Florida through the evening, before skies partially clear and lows settle back into the middle and upper 70s.
High pressure will dominate our weather pattern Friday and into the weekend, bringing more sunshine with our typical pattern of hit or miss afternoon thunderstorms. An uptick in the moisture Sunday will allow for more clouds and scattered rain ahead of an approaching cool front. This may bring the first hint of fall like weather by mid week with lower humidity in the forecast along with cooler nights.
In the tropics, Nadine is bringing tropical storm conditions to parts of the Azores and is expected to become a post tropical cyclone by the weekend. Tropical Depression #15 formed in the Atlantic yesterday and is expected to be a short lived. It will briefly become a tropical storm before it encounters some drier air and strong wind shear.

SAME PRESIDENT,
"The Obama presidency."
TWO DIFFERENT ACCENTS.
"I am the son of a black man."
"Where's your dollar?"
"I can no more disown him."
"You got some better speakers."
"That made me cringe."
"In this country."
"That may seem jarring to the untrained ear."
WHAT SEEMS ESPECIALLY JARRING TO SOME CONSERVATIVE EARS IS THAT THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH CHANGES WHEN HE ADDRESSES AN AFRICAN AMERICAN AUDIENCE.
"The falseness here is overwhelming."
"BUT SOME LINGUISTS SAY THE FALSENESS WOULD BE IF THE PRESIDENT DIDN'T CHANGE HIS SPEECH."
ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING HE'S AFRICAN AMERICAN.
"And that audience would say, 'Huh? What makes him such a stuffed shirt?'"
BUT CONSERVATIVE CRITICS LIKE SEAN HANNITY ARE ATTACKING PRESIDENT OBAMA'S DELIVERY.
"He went into Al Gore preacher mode, 'And Republicans have the wrong agenda.'"
FOR INSTANCE WHEN AL GORE ADDRESSED THE NAACP.
"The taproot of racism is hundreds of years long."
"WHAT CRITICS CALL PANDERING."
"We got too many daddies, not acting like daddies."
"LINGUISTS CALL ACCOMMODATING."
"As linguists we find this kind of switching back and forth to be pretty natural, pretty automatic and very often outside the conscious control of the speaker."
BUT ACCOMMODATING IS HARDER TO PULL OFF WHEN IT'S NOT YOUR NATURAL DIALECT.
"Who let the dogs out? Who? Who?"
MITT ROMNEY SEEMED TO REALIZE THAT WHEN HE POKED FUN AT HIMSELF TALKING "SOUTHERN".
"Morning, y'all. Good to be with you."
HILLARY CLINTON WAS MOCKED AS "KENTUCKY FRIED HILLARY" WHEN SHE WENT OVER THE TOP AT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN CHURCH.
"I come too far from where I started from."
THOUGH IN THIS CASE.
"I come too far."
HILLARY WAS ACTUALLY PERFORMING LINES FROM A GOSPEL HYMN MADE FAMOUS BY REVEREND JAMES CLEVELAND.
WHAT THE POLITICIANS DO IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH AN ACTUAL MEDICAL CONDITION CALLED FOREIGN ACCENT SYNDROME. IT CHANGED THIS FLORIDA WOMAN'S ACCENT FOLLOWING A STROKE FROM THIS.
"We've got fabulous things."
TO THIS.
"I thought I was going bloody crazy."

Then they came back the next day we come to find out and cleaned everything up before we came home, put everything back., even did the dishes. And if the kids weren't bragging about it or showing off via Facebook, nothing would have come about of it. They would have got completely away with it.

"They look a lot different out here compared to the orange ones obviously."
THAT'S BECAUSE THESE PUMPKINS ARE PINK.
"They are a little different, but very unique."
BUT THE COLOR ISN'T A MISTAKE OR A RESULT OF THE DROUGHT, THESE PINK PUMPKINS ARE BEING GROWN TO RAISE MONEY FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH.
"It sounded like a really good idea, it comes right at the time of the year, October being Breast Cancer Awareness month and well, lets face it, it's the right thing to do."
THE WALDVOGELS HAD TO BUY A SPECIAL SEED FROM THE PINK PUMPKIN PATCH FOUNDATION WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE FUNDRAISER TO PRODUCE THE UNIQUE COLOR.
"THE PINK PUMPKINS ARE ACTUALLY A CROSSBREED BETWEEN SQUASH AND PUMPKIN. THE LONGER THEY STAY ON THE VINE, THE MORE PINK THEY'LL GET."
A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS GO TO BREAST CANCER RESEARCH. IT'S A CAUSE THE WALDVOGELS COULDN'T OVERLOOK, EVEN WITH NO FAMILY HISTORY OF THE DISEASE.
"We have a lot of families that come out and I know somebody, somewhere is certainly affected by this. The sooner we find a cure for it, the better everyone'll be."
