FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"A quiet start, wet finish"

Even though the calendar says it's October, it looks like mother nature hasn't received the memo as we are stuck in a mid summers weather pattern, with heat and humidity to boot.

Our skies will start off relatively quiet, but it will be a warm and muggy morning with temperatures in the middle to upper 70s. The remnant moisture associated with a decaying front has retrograded back to the northwest as high pressure centered over the western Atlantic waters moves in across the peninsula.

This will keep skies mostly to partly sunny during the mornings with increasing cloud cover during the afternoon. Temperatures will rebound into the lower 90s with a few upper 80s along our coastal and beach locations. However with plenty of humidity, heat index values will approach the 100° mark.

With an easterly flow setting up across the state, a couple of isolated showers could pop as early as the lunchtime hour mainly across our inland communities. Scattered downpours and a few storms will likely fire up close to the urban corridor as the sea breeze stays close to home once again.

Once the rain activity fades and pushes into the Gulf, skies will go mostly clear and lows will drop into the mid to upper 70s.

Expect the same set up for your Saturday - morning sun with afternoon downpours, but by Sunday we'll more than likely see an increase in the clouds and an uptick in our shower and thunderstorm pattern as a cool front approaches from the northwest.

Dry high pressure looks to settle in across the state by early next week with more sunshine and less rain. While it won't bring us much of a cool down, it will bring some lower humidity by mid week, which will be more noticeable during the morning hours as lows drop into the low 70s with a few mid to upper 60s deep inland.

In the tropics, Nadine is finally history. Tropical Storm Oscar will be a short lived storm as it is forecasted to weaken and diminish as it runs into some drier air and strong upper level wind shear. Return to index of stories...

FALL TRAVEL POPULAR-VO IN PLASMA

THERE'S A BIT OF BAD NEWS THIS FALL.

BUT IT'S EASILY OVERSHADOWED BY THE GOOD!

DETAILS FROM NBC'S CHRIS CLACKUM. Return to index of stories...

FALL TRAVEL POPULAR-PKG

IF YOU WERE THINKING YOU'D BE THE ONLY ONE JETTING OFF ON A FALL VACATION THIS YEAR. THINK AGAIN.

TURNS OUT, FALL VACATIONS ARE HAVE BECOME AS POPULAR THAN THE ONES IN SUMMER.

"2 out of 3 travelers told us they plan to take a week or more of vacation this Fall"

IN AN ORBITZ SURVEY OF 750 AMERICANS, 68-PERCENT SAID THEY'D BE HITTING THE ROADS FOR A GETAWAY SOMETIME BETWEEN LABOR DAY AND THANKSGIVING.

AND SENIOR EDITOR JEANENNE TORNATORE SAYS FOR GOOD REASON.

"The kids are back in school which means fewer crowds at major destinations.the temperatures are still mild and because the hotels aren't as full, you see really great deals this time of year" 0054

SHE SAYS WHILE YOU CAN EXPECT GREAT DEALS AT HOTELS, RESORTS AND THEME PARKS. THE SAME CAN'T BE SAID FOR FLYING.

.AIRLINES AREN'T LIKELY TO LOWER FARES BEYOND WHERE THEY ARE NOW. AND THEY'LL DEFINITELY BE HIGHER AROUND THE HOLIDAYS.

THAT'S WHY A LOT OF FALL VACATIONERS WILL BE DRIVING.

"One of the reasons we see this is because one of the most popular getaways for Fall travelers is seeing all the beautiful Fall colors 0902 and people tend to take those regional trips where they hop in a car for a long weekend to getaway to see the Fall colors"

IN SEVERAL PARTS OF THE COUNTRY, THOSE COLORS ARE PEAKING. STARTING THIS WEEKEND.

YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO HELP POLICE AND EARN SOME MONEY IN THE PROCESS!

IT'S ANOTHER ROUND OF FUGITIVE FRIDAY,

TRISH ROUTTE WITH SOUTHWEST FLORIDA CRIME STOPPERS IS HERE WITH A NEW LIST OF BAD PEOPLE. Return to index of stories...

FUGITIVE FRIDAY-5 SS

Starting off our list this week is a habitual offender wanted for violation of probation on the heels of an arrest for burglary and grand theft. 25 year old Aaron Harnage has seen the inside of a jail cell 16 times before, on multiples charges of drug trafficking and possession, aggravated stalking, burglary, theft, contempt and violating a restraining order. In the last 7 years, Harnage has been charged with 16 different burglaries - which landed him the well deserved designation of a registered convicted felon. Right now, he has 13 separate active felony warrants on the books, which will afford him an extended stay at the Lee County Jail. Harnage was last known to be working in the air conditioning business, and living in North Fort Myers. He is 6'1", 180 pounds and has tattoos of the phrase "Get rich or die trying" across his shoulders, and the word Ash on his right wrist.

And earning the distinction of being the youngest criminal we've profiled here on Fugitive Friday is Dewayne Roberts, a 17 year old hooligan who had his first felony arrest at the unbelievable young age of 11. Two years before even becoming a teenager, Roberts was arrested for burglary. Now, six years later, he's wanted for violating his probation after two arrests this summer for the possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and the possession of marijuana. Born and raised in Fort Myers, Roberts was last known to be living in the heart of Dunbar. He is 5'5", 130 pounds and has a tattoo of the name Wayne Wayne on both of his arms, and his mom's name inked on his neck.

Also on the run in Lee County is a man with a serious violent streak to him - so much so that he's even attacked people who were trying to help him. Charles Sikes is currently running from the law for violating probation after attacking several paramedics. According to reports, Sikes jumped out of a moving vehicle, and was being treated by paramedics when he decided to go ballistic. When placed in the back of the ambulance, Sikes threw punches at the three treating paramedics while using racial slurs and spitting at them. Once at the hospital, Sikes had to be Tasered after trying to attack a nurse. Once he was medically cleared, he was transported to the jail, telling the deputy, and this is his quote, "when I get out of prison, I will sneak up behind you and watch your brains splatter all over your cop windshield." 26 year old Sikes has been arrested 11 times before for other charges including grand theft, burglary and fleeing and eluding officers. He has a tattoo of the words "Dirty South" on his arms, and upon his arrest he will be held without bond.

And rounding out our list is Isario Soliz, an Immokalee man trying to avoid spending the weekend in jail after violating terms of his probation. This 27 year old fugitive is a familiar face to deputies in Collier, after arrests for robbery, battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding officers and false imprisonment. Soliz's criminal history that extends back to his teenage years, when he was incarcerated for grand theft auto and dealing in stolen property. Soliz claims that he's unemployed, however has been known to collect scrap metal in the past. Deputies believe he's still laying low in the Immokalee area, and all they need is that one tip to relocate him to the familiar surroundings of the Collier County Jail. Soliz has several neck tattoos, including the names Monica on the left side, and Mercedes on the right. Return to index of stories...

DOG HOUSE PHONE ROBBERY-PKG

BRUCE GARDNER'S CELL PHONE RANG JUST BEFORE 9 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING. THE CALLER I-D SHOWED A FAMILIAR NUMBER.HIS HOUSE!

S/ Bruce Gardner/ Dog Owner ***NOTE: TOO QUICK TO SUPER***

"I knew nobody was home, so I answered it."

WHAT HE HEARD ON THE OTHER END OF THE LINE WAS SO STARTLING, HE IMMEDIATELY LEFT WORK AND CALLED POLICE. NO ONE WAS TALKING, BUT THE SOUNDS WERE WORTH A MILLION WORDS.

S/ Sgt. Craig Martinez/ Orem Police Dept. ***NOTE: TOO QUICK TO SUPER***

"He could hear some banging around, some rifling around, some scratching."

S/ Bruce Gardner/ Dog Owner:24 -:27

"My mind immediately went to.you know, I'm being robbed."

POLICE CONVERGED ON HIS OREM RESIDENCE.SEARCHED THE PLACE AND DIDN'T FIND A THING. THE DOORS AND WINDOWS ALL LOCKED.NOTHING WAS GONE.

S/ Sgt. Craig Martinez/ Orem Police Dept.:38 -:42

"I've heard of some pretty strange things. This ranks right up there with something that I've never heard happening before."

TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE STRANGE, GARDNER AND THE COPS COULDN'T FIND THE CORDLESS HOME PHONE THAT HAD MADE THE CALL.

SO THE HOME OWNER DID A LITTLE DIGGING.

HE WENT TO THE BACKYARD AND CALLED BACK THE NUMBER THAT HAD PLACED THE MYSTERIOUS CALL.

S/ Bruce Gardner/ Dog Owner:57 - 1:04

"I could hear the ringing. I started going towards the sound and I found it out here in the garden."

TURNS OUT, THE CULPRIT WAS MAYA.THE FAMILY'S 4-YEAR-OLD LAB. SHE HAD TAKEN THE PHONE.WHICH WAS LEFT OUTSIDE.AND MADE IT HER OWN PERSONAL LINE.

S/ Sgt. Craig Martinez/ Orem Police Dept. 1:15 - 1:21

"In the midst of chewing on it, she happened to hit redial, called the man's cellphone and then the dog had buried the phone in the backyard in the garden."

MYSTERY SOLVED AND LESSON LEARNED.

S/ Bruce Gardner/ Dog Owner 1:26 - 1:32

"Don't leave things out here, you know, that I don't want eaten up."

GARDNER WAS RELIEVED THAT NO ONE WAS ROBBING HIM AND NOW IT LOOKS LIKE THE WORST THING THAT WILL HAPPEN IS A LITTLE TIME FOR MAYA IN THE DOG HOUSE. Return to index of stories...

THE SLEEP DOCTOR-CLIP VO IN PLASMA

ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP?

A LACK OF SHUT-EYE CAN EFFECT EVERYTHING FROM YOUR WEIGHT TO YOUR JOB PERFORMANCE.

BARBARA MORSE SILVA EXPLAINS - THAT'S WHERE THE 'SLEEP DOCTOR' COMES IN. Return to index of stories...

THE SLEEP DOCTOR-PKG

"During my residency I had a very unique experience where I got a chance to work in a sleep lab and I saw that I could change people's lives in under 24 hours."

HE'S BECOME KNOWN AS THE SLEEP DOCTOR. DR. MICHAEL BREUS'S CREDENTIALS ARE IMPRESSIVE.

"I actually have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and I'm board certified in clinical sleep disorders. I'm a practicing sleep specialist. I see sleep patients who have narcolepsy and insomnia."

AND HE'S WRITTEN A FEW BOOKS ON THE TOPIC. DR. BREUS KNOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP.

"We now know that if you're not sleeping enough it has major effects, both emotionally, cognitively, in reaction time, you name it and especially now that kids are starting to go back to school we also know that if they're not sleeping well, they're not going to be studying well and not going to be performing well."

SO HOW MUCH SLEEP DO WE NEED?

"Everybody's sleep needs appear to be different so I'm a six and a half hour guy, have been my entire life but I've got patients who require 8 1/2 or 9 hours so it really just depends. What I tell people is if you can wake up within five minutes of your alarm going off you've probably found the right amount of sleep."

ROUTINE, HE SAYS, IS CRUCIAL. SO IS A DARK, COOL, QUIET ROOM. EVEN DOWN TO YOUR MATTRESS, PILLOW AND BEDDING.

"It's really a sleep system and if you don't have the right performance equipment you're not going to perform well." Return to index of stories...
