Red tide has been found in the water here- but those large fish kills- not yet apparent.
But I want you to take a look at the water.
Normally it's blue- but now it's this reddish brown color, That's from a water release from lake o and from all the rain weve gotten that dumps fertilizer from our yards and farm into the water.
That- plus the warm weather makes for perfect conditions for red tide.

MAJOR CRASH ON I-75 IN SARASOTA!!
There is an accident involving an estimated 30-50 vehicles in the southbound lanes of I-75 on the overpass at University Parkway, on the Manatee/Sarasota County line.
There is at least one trauma alert to which Bayflite is responding. There are at least two extrications. 10-12 patients at this time.
There is possibly a tanker leaking liquid calcium which I understand is not considered hazardous.
I understand southbound traffic is being detoured at State Road 70 in Bradenton. The FHP estimates the interstate will be closed for three or more hours.

THE US UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FELL BELOW 8 PERCENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN NEARLY FOUR YEARS.
THE LABOR DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCING TODAY THAT THE RATE FELL TO 7.8 PERCENT THIS MONTH. DOWN FROM 8.1 PERCENT LAST MONTH.

THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO FOUND JOBS IN SEPTEMBER WAS, IN FACT, HISTORIC.
"We had an increase of 873,000 jobs just in the month of september.that's the biggest one month jump in 30-years."
THE WAY PROFESSIONALS AT THE BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS ARRIVED AT THAT FIGURE IS ALSO ENTRENCHED IN HISTORY.
"They do the best calculations, using the best measurements and tools.we've been using them for the past 70-years.we haven't changed anything."
WHICH MEANS EVERY MONTH, THOSE PROFESSIONALS ARE WALLED OFF, EVEN FROM EACH OTHER.
.TO PORE OVER SURVEYS CONDUCTED BY THE CENSUS BUREAU. OF 60-THOUSAND HOUSEHOLDS, 140-THOUSAND BUSINESSES.
.WHERE ONLY QUESTIONS ABOUT EMPLOYMENT ARE ASKED.
THEN, THE INDEPENDENTLY CALCULATED NUMBERS ARE COMPILED.
"they're all coming with very different set of numbers and as I understand it.that's one reason they do it is to maintain the integrity of the process"
AS FOR THE UPTICK IN THESE NEWEST NUMBERS, ANALYSTS SAY THERE'S A LOGICAL EXPLANATION.
"The BLS is telling us that a lot of those jobs.those new jobs.were part time jobs."
"The unemployment rate simply came down because there was an unusual number of part time workers"
THE NEXT UNEMPLOYMENT REPORT MIGHT ALSO STIR CONTROVERSY. IT COMES OUT THE FRIDAY BEFORE ELECTION DAY.

FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND
Pretty remarkable way to end the work week! Highs were in the lower 90s, and there was enough sunshine to make us believe we were still in summer. Apparently mother nature hasn't gotten the memo that fall started two weeks ago.
Yes you had to dodge a shower or two today, but by far the heavier and more widespread rains stayed to our north. That's where the deeper tropical moisture sits, and you guessed it - that moisture and the accompanying storms will be advancing in our direction this weekend.
Saturday and Sunday will not be gloomy, and it most certainly will not be a washout. We'll simply see a few more clouds to mix with the sun, and a slight increase in areal rain coverage.
Our mornings will start out dry. After daybreak we start warming up, and thanks to the heat combined with the sea breeze - we will see scattered storms each afternoon. If you plan to be outside, carry on with your schedule. Just be aware you may encounter some heavy rain at times.
Overall we'll only see heavy rain; however, one or two of these cells could become strong. What to expect with those? Powerful winds, excessive lightning, and a quick burst of rainfall. Rain totals could be up to 3 inches.
Remember, lightning can travel many miles in advance of a storm. So when the thunder roars, go indoors!
We quickly see our sky conditions improve after Sunday. We'll keep partly sunny skies in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday with some late day storms. It'll seem like we're back in August by the end of next week. It'll be hot, completely sunny, but there will hardly be a drop of rain.
High pressure will dominate our weather late next weekend, and hot, rain free weather is pretty normal with high pressure systems.
Our temperatures will be above average during the next 7 days. Keep the water handy!
We're smooth sailing in the tropics. Not a thing to worry about!

TONY SAYS THE FACT THAT H-P-V IS MOST OFTEN TRANSMITTED SEXUALLY TENDS TO MAKE THE TOPIC TABOO.
"'I could never get that because I've never. I've never.' What? Never had sex?"
BUT DOCTORS SAY H-P-V MAY BE TRANSMITTED EASIER THAN WE THOUGHT.
"We cannot exclude that kissing for example does transmit HPV, or even skin-to-skin contact."
THE NUMBER OF H-P-V-RELATED HEAD AND NECK CANCERS HAS BEEN INCREASING. 15 YEARS AGO. THE TYPICAL THROAT CANCER PATIENT WAS AN ELDERLY MAN WHO DRANK AND SMOKED HEAVILY.

GO AHEAD AND WATCH THOSE CUTE ANIMAL VIDEOS AT WORK - RESEARCHERS SAY IT INCREASES YOUR PRODUCTIVITY.
JAPANESE SCIENTISTS HAD A GROUP OF STUDENTS LOOK AT PHOTOS OF EITHER BABY ANIMALS, ADULT ANIMALS OR FOOD -- THEN COMPLETE A TASK REQUIRING FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION.
THE BABY ANIMAL GROUP SIGNIFICANTLY OUTPERFORMED THE OTHER TWO GROUPS ON THE TASK.
RESEARCHERS SAY THIS COULD BE BECAUSE ADULTS TEND TO SPEAK MORE SLOWLY WHEN TALKING TO PUPPIES AND KITTENS -- WHICH COULD HELP THEM SLOW DOWN DURING TASKS.

NEW SCRUTINY FOR YAHOO'S NEW C-E-O, MARISSA MYER.
SHE'S ALREADY PREPARING TO RETURN TO WORK AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO HER SON, THIS WEEK.
A MOVE THAT'S RAISED EYEBROWS AMONG SOME WOMEN.
NOW, THIS NEW MAGAZINE COVER OF MYER. IS ADDING FUEL TO THE FIRE.
NBC'S ANNE THOMPSON REPORTS.

it is a great photo.
marissa mayer on the cover of the most recent issue of fortune magazine
looking elegant, professional and trim
and to some moms on the internet, that's the problem.
because mayer just gave birth to her first child this week.
SOT
OF COURSE PREGNANCY DOESNT DEFINE HER, BUT IT IS SO MUCH A PART OF HER STORY AND IT'S SO MUCH A BIG PART OF THE REASON WHY WE LOOK UP TO HER AND I WAS SURPRISED THAT THEY DIDN'T CHOSE TO SHOW HER YOU KNOW PREGNANT AND IN A POWER SUIT.
a fortune spokesperson confirms the magazine wanted to shoot mayer for the cover when she was pregnant but she declined. the magazine used a photo taken almost a year ago.
SOT
WE'RE NOT ALL DEMI MOORE.
huffington post senior columnist lisa belkin says too much is being made of the cover.
SOT
WHY WOULD SHE POSE 9 MONTHS PREGNANT? SHE DOESN'T STAND FOR ALL WOMEN. SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO REPRESENT US ALL THE TIME.
as mayer rose through the ranks at google. she never publicly shied away from setting an example.
SOT--
I THINK THAT WHAT WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY REALLY NEED IS ROLE MODELS AND INSPIRATION.
talking in 2008 about google's maternity leave policy.
SOT--
WE BASICALLY SAID, YOU KNOW A BABY OF A GOOGLER SHOULD HAVE THEIR PARENT AT HOME FOR SIX WEEKS OR THREE MONTHS AND IT SHOULD BE STANDARD FROM THE CHILD'S POINT OF VIEW. AND I THINK THAT MEANS THAT ULTIMATELY IT'S A REALLY SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR WOMEN BUT IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR WOMEN WHICH IS IMPORTANT.
YAHOO HIRED MAYER AS ITS CEO IN JULY KNOWING SHE WAS PREGNANT.
WHEN MAYER GAVE BIRTH SUNDAY, A YAHOO SPOKESWOMAN TOLD THE NY TIMES MAYER PLANS to be back in the office WITHIN one to two weeks. that too is generating flack.
SOT
WE SHOULD BE SENDING THE MESSAGE THAT WOMEN NEED MORE MATERNITY LEAVE. THEY NEED BETTER BENEFITS. THEY NEED MORE TIME. THEY NEED A WORKPLACE THAT UNDERSTANDS THAT THIS IS A PERIOD OF TIME THAT WOMEN NEED TO BE WITH A BABY.
all this criticism could make the corner office look real good to mayer.
SOT
MOMMIES ARE HARD ON EACH OTHER. MOMMIES ARE VERY TOUGH. SO SHE'S GONNA GET A LOT OF CRITICISM PROBABLY FOR EVERYTHING SHE DOES UM WHILE BEING A MOMMY.
