we found out that the unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since

Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
We'll start out sunny and end stormy today as plentiful tropical moisture teams up with afternoon heating to trigger numerous late afternoon and evening storms.
Most of our day will end up being fairly quiet, though, and it won't be until the late afternoon and evening until the storms really get going. We'll start the day with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. With a nice mix of sun and clouds, temperatures will easily climb to near 90 by the afternoon. Humidity will be very high today as well, so the "feels like" temperatures should be near 100 degrees.
Our weather should stay mostly dry through 4 p.m. Once we hit 4-5 p.m., storms should start popping rather quickly, building slowly from east to west. We expect to be tracking these storms as we head into the late afternoon, evening, and even through early tonight. Some of today's storms may be intense, packing lots of lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds. Since storm movement will be fairly slow today, rain amounts could add up very quickly in the locations that get stuck under a heavy downpour.
After sunset, the storms will start to fade pretty quickly. Our sky will stay partly cloudy through the overnight, and temperatures will only cool into the mid 70s.
Sunday should be somewhat close to a repeat performance of Saturday. We'll start with dry, sunny weather, and then storms will start building by the afternoon and evening.
It looks like we'll be in store for some nice changes in our weather pattern come Tuesday as drier air slides in from the north. This will result in a slight drop in humidity, very low rain chance, and some comfortable temperatures during the overnight and early morning. Our daytime temperatures will still be rather warm, staying close to 90, but the lower humidity should help the air feel more pleasant.
This drier pattern will likely stay in place through the end of next week and into the weekend as well.

ONLY USED TO DETECT CERVICAL CANCER, THE PAP TEST IS LIMITED.

1:10 The Pap smear allows us to look at a very large population of women that may be at risk for cervical cancer and then comb down which women really need a little more attention.
IT'S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR SELF-MONITORING.
DR. JIMMY ORR/GYNECOLOGICAL ONCOLOGIST
RUNS:
18:27 I think the pelvis exam, visit to your gynecologist, the PAP test. Women need to feel free to talk and say look, I'm having this pain, I'm having this bloating, it's something that's just not right. And I think that's a take home message.

That cough, and throat irritation is a side effect of Red tide in humans.
Thats After it kills fish and other marine life.
The organism that's responsible- karenia brevis-always exists in our waters, But certain conditions cause it to bloom and release a toxin.
Sot dr. Bruce neill, sanibel sea school
This is the time of the year when we get a lot of rains, when we get a lot of rain there's a lot of nutrients available, the ocean is at a very warm temperature."
Those factors- plus a recent release from lake okeechobee, Have changed the water-
Sot bev
When we got in i said why is this water all yellow."
And while this water is not a health hazard- What's in it leads to red tide growth.
Sot Bruce
" we put fertilizer in the water and the water goes in tot he ocean and it fertilizes all plankton growth and so we a the solution for red tide. "
For The bloom in pine island sound- it's may be too late.
Sot Bruce
"the conditions right now are favorable for that bloom to enlarge however these are big ocean conditions so it's going to take 3 or 4 days."
3 or 4 days for lee and collier county to see and feel it.
Sot Bruce
In all likelihood itll continue to move south and then follow the shoreline so it's moving southward."
But even so-

"ISAAC"
TCT - 00:01:11:00
Gia Tutalo-Mote, Forever Family: Inquisitive and athletic Isaac has just the adventurous spirit for a day spent paddling around with dolphins. And while the dolphins did bring out his A game in the water he enjoyed sharing with us his favorite quest on land.
Isaac, looking for a Forever Family: Basketball football. I just always had an interest in them. I was five and I was in a basketball game. And it was like the moment of the game. It was the last shoot from the 3 pointers, and the buzzer going off and I made it.
Lanecia Radcliff, child advocate: Isaac is a very intelligent child. He enjoys school.
Isaac: I like reading it is cool. Greek adventure stories stuff like that.
Lanecia: And learn about different animals. He is just a kid that needs to be intellectually stimulated.
Gia: And for that, he needs more than what other kids his age my need. You see Isaac is waiting in foster care for a family, a mom and dad, maybe even some siblings.
Isaac: I thought it'd be fun to have an older brother. We could go to the park play some ball. Go to a picnic I mean anything. As long as they are loving and caring.

Fred-18:56:28 it's canceled why? Bc of rain and lightning 33
THE RAIN BY ITSELF ISN'T AN ISSUE-
BUT THE LIGHTNING?
Fred-18:56: 52 as soon as we see it or hear it we take the kids off the court and they come under here 55
LIKE ALL COACHES THAT USE LEE COUNTY FACILITIES,
HE'S REQUIRED TO MONITOR LIGHTNING.
HE USES HIS PHONE-
TO GET THE LATEST INFORMATION ON WEATHER CONDITIONS.
LEE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS- RECOMMEND AN APP CALLED SMART COACH.
fred18:58:58 it shows where lightning has struck in the area and also how far it is away and when it's safe to go back out again. 07
A FREE AND HELPFUL TOOL-
FRED-19:01:18 oh look it just updated and one got a little closer 21
BUT IT ONLY WORKS AFTER LIGHTNING HAS BEEN DETECTED.
ANOTHER OPTION USED BY THE SCHOOLS AND THE COUNTY?
chris williams, lee county athletic dir- 26 we have the handheld devices that most of the leagues have now30
BUT THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
ONLY SHOWING NEARBY STRIKES ONCE THEY HIT.
BUT THIS DEVICE- CALLED THOR GUARD- CAN DETECT LIGHTING *BEFORE IT APPEARS.
chris- 18:39:05 it will have a siren go off for 15 seconds which would let everyone know to take cover 10 you can't go back on the field and play until the Thor guard has rang 3 short times which means that lightening is out of the area. 19
TERRY PARK AND LEHIGH ACRES COMMUNITY PARK,
ARE THE ONLY FACILITIES WITH THE 6 THOUSAND DOLLAR DEVICES.
AND EVEN THIS WARNING- DOESN'T ALWAYS MAKE PEOPLE GO INSIDE.
CHRIS 18:42:48 you're always going to hear some moans and groans but we have to adhere- safety is first 51
BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH LIGHTNING STRIKES ARE RARE-
WEDNESDAY'S INCIDENT IS PROOF THAT IT DOES HAPPEN.
Nancy Apperson, lee county senior supervisor of aquatics 18:50:07 it's devastating and we would never want that to occur anywhere so were really safety minded and pretty strict with our lighting policy 16
BEING STRICT ON THIS,
JUST PART OF A BIGGER JOB.
