6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A stream of tropical moisture across the Florida peninsula will crank out another day of scattered storms and high humidity for Southwest Florida. A fair amount of clouds will also litter our sky, only allowing for partial sunshine.

Rain chances are back in the forecast today, but most of the storms won't develop until the late afternoon and evening. It looks as though the prime time for rain, as we often see this time of year, will be from 5-8 p.m. One or two storms may be intense, producing heavy rain, lots of lightning, and gusty winds. The slow moving nature of the storms will present the risk for high rain totals in spots that get caught underneath one of the heavy downpours.

Temperatures will be fairly warm again today. We'll spend most of the morning in the mid to upper 70s and then warm to the mid to upper 80s by midday. Most places will see a high close to 90 before the afternoon storms develop, cooling the air slightly with stronger breezes along with more clouds cover.

By this evening a few storms will linger through 8-9 p.m., but tonight's storms shouldn't be as long lived as the ones we around Saturday night. We'll be left with a partly cloudy sky through the overnight with temperatures cooling to the mid 70s by early Monday.

Monday will feature a mix of sun and clouds along with another round of afternoon scattered storms, but changes are coming from Tuesday and beyond. A batch of dry air will slide into Southwest Florida through the day Tuesday, effectively squashing our rain chances for the second half of the week. A few showers and storms will still be possible Tuesday afternoon, but the areal coverage should be much lower.

Wednesday through Friday will be mostly dry with plentiful sunshine and some patchy afternoon clouds. Highs will still be rather warm as we top out close to 90, but a slight dip in humidity will make the air feel a little more comfortable.

In the tropics, all is quiet, and we don't expect any development through the next few days. Return to index of stories...

NOW TO A NBC2, CONSUMER ALERT-

A COMMON INGREDIENT IN PET SHAMPOOS COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS ALLERGIC REACTION.

LYNDA BAQUERO SPOKE WITH ONE WOMAN WHO ALMOST LOST HER PET. Return to index of stories...

DOG SHAMPOO WARNING-KG

GINGER'S A LOVABLE THREE YEAR OLD POMERANIAN. YOU'D NEVER KNOW NOW THAT RECENTLY, SHE WAS SERIOUSLY ILL.

"I noticed her abdomen was very red. You couldn't really touch her. It seemed like it would hurt her skin to even contact."

LAURA HUGHES-- WHO HAS TWO POMERANIANS AT HOME TOOK GINGER TO THE VET.

AFTER GIVING HER MEDICINE AND BRINGING HER BACK HOME, GINGER ONLY GOT WORSE. BY THE TIME SHE SAW DR. JOHN FONDACARO, GINGER WAS IN TROUBLE.

"Her x-rays show edema everywhere. She had so much blood in her lungs. We just weren't sure. sorry. And they said she may not make it. We're gonna do the best we can."

"In this case, Ginger's case, it definitely could have been fatal."

HOW DID GINGER END UP THIS WAY? LAURA BLAMES A REACTION TO THE SHAMPOO USED BY THE DOG'S GROOMER.

"Since this product that I've now looked at the ingredient list, includes this D-Lemonine in it, which is recognized to cause both topical reactions and can create a reaction like this, it's the most likely offending agent."

SO WHAT IS D-LIMONENE?

"D-Limonene is a botanical extract, an oil extract."

DR. FONDACARO SHOWED ME A VETERINARIAN MEDICAL MANUAL, WHICH STATES: "SEPTICEMIA, WHICH IS A SERIOUS, LIFE-THREATENING INFECTION, WAS REPORTED IN A TWO YEAR OLD CAT FOLLOWING APPLICATION OF A D-LIMONENE CONTAINING INSECTICIDAL SHAMPOO"

THE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AGENCY HAS SAID: "ACTIVE D-LIMONENE IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON DOGS OR CATS."

These reactions may not be very common, but when they do occur, they can be very serious.

"If you don't ask what your groomer is using, I guess you could possibly have the reaction that my dog had."

DR. FONDACARO RECOMMENDS TESTING A PATCH OF SKIN ON A PET BEFORE APPLYING ANY PRODUCT CONTAINING D-LIMONENE. AS FOR GINGER.

"Ginger appears to have made a full recovery, so that is really great." Return to index of stories...

6:32 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

DECISION 2012-

AND THIS PAST WEEK ON THE CAMPAIGN TRIAL HAS BEEN ONE OF TWISTS AND TURNS-

THE LATEST TWIST CAME A FEW DAYS AGO, WHEN THE LATEST UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS SHOWED A RATE BETTER THAN EXPECTED.

CANDIDATES ON JOB NUMBERS-PKG

IN HIS WEEKLY ADDRESS … PRESIDENT OBAMA'S TALKING ABOUT THE SUDDEN DROP IN UNEMPLOYMENT THAT'S GOOD NEWS FOR THE ECONOMY AND GREAT NEWS FOR HIS REELECTION CAMPAIGN.

"More Americans are entering the work force. More Americans are getting jobs."

UNEMPLOYMENT DROPPED FROM 8.1 TO 7.8 PERCENT.

BUT MITT ROMNEY HAS HIS OWN TAKE ON WHY.

Presidential Nominee:23 -:32

"If the number of people, if the percentage of the American populations were in the workforce, were the same today and the day he was elected our unemployment rate would be 11 percent."

STILL … THE UNEMPLOYMENT NEWS KNOCKED TALK OF WEDNESDAY NIGHT'S DEBATES - AND THE PRESIDENT'S POOR PERFORMANCE - OUT OF THE HEADLINES.

SOME REPUBLICANS FIND THAT TOO CONVENIENT …

FORMER GE CEO JACK WELCH WENT SO FAR AS TO SUGGEST ON TWITTER THAT THE LABOR DEPARTMENT BOOKS HAD BEEN COOKED.

NO SUPER - MSNBC OFF AIR SPLIT SCREEN

"I have no evidence to prove that I just raised the question."

"These are our best trained and best skilled individuals who are working in the BLS and it's really ludicrous to hear that kind of statement."

POPES BUTLER LATEST-ONCAM

AFTER BEING FOUND GUILTY OF STEALING PRIVATE DOCUMENTS AND LEAKING THEM TO A REPORTER.

MORE NOW FROM NBC'S DUNCAN GOLESTANI. Return to index of stories...

POPES BUTLER LATEST-PKG

Paulo Gabriele was always close to the Pope.whether upfront in the Popemobile or at his side serving dinner.

It was a trusted position and he betrayed that trust handing over thousands of copies of documents to an investigative journalist who was writing a tell-all book.

The so called Vatilkeaks caused a sensation with accusations of fighting and financial misdealings.

In court, the butler confessed to the crime but said he did it out of love for the church. NBC's Claudio Lavagna listened to the evidence.

"Gabriele's lawyer said he shouldn't be remembered as a thief and even that hoped his motives will be recognized and rewarded one day, and the butler said himself in court this morning: he did it for the church, and the pope"

Vatican judges disagreed, sentencing Gabriele to eighteen months in prison.

The butler now has to wait for forgiveness. from the very man he betrayed.

NATSOT IN ITALIAN

The Pope's spokesman says a pardon is likely and the Pontiff will now study the court file and decide.

But questions still remain - was Gabriele acting alone as he claimed? Some believe the case masks a wider power struggle within the Vatican.

"It is clear there is not only one man but a group of monsignors and employees of the Vatican who are following a line of underground opposition."

With or without help, it was a humble, trusted butler who briefly exposed the secret inner workings of the Catholic Church.

"I got these two in Hawaii."

JAMES LYLE'S ARMS TELL THE STORY OF HIS LAST NINE YEARS IN THE ARMY.

:08- 13

"Two buddies of mine, they were really good buddies of mine that passed away."

THE FORMER MILITARY POLICE OFFICER THOUGHT HE WOULD BE A SHOO-IN FOR A TRAFFIC JOB AT THE AIRPORT IN TAMPA.

:19- 30

"I went ahead and applied for it and everything, they said I qualified. And the Aviation Authority gave me a phone call and said well, you do not qualify. And I said why, and they said well, it's because you have tattoos."

THE AIRPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT'S POLICY DOESN'T ALLOW OFFICERS TO COVER TATTOOS WITH LONG SLEEVES, BECAUSE IT'S NOT PART OF THE UNIFORM.

:38- 45

"When the policy was put in place in 2005 it was just seen as a matter of professionalism. We didn't want anything that would distract from the uniform."

:46- 51

BUT TAMPA AIRPORT POLICE ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS. SEVERAL OTHER BAY AREA DEPARTMENTS HAVE SIMILAR POLICIES.

TAMPA POLICE CAN'T HAVE THEM FOR INSTANCE, AND APPLICANTS MUST GET VISIBLE TATTOOS REMOVED BEFORE THEY CAN WORK THERE. MOST DEPARTMENTS WILL TELL YOU IT JUST BOILS DOWN TO PROFESSIONALISM.

1:03- 1:15

"I think if I'm a professional, and if I'm able to cover up the tattoos, if they think that's a professional preference, then I should be able to have that option. To be able to cover them up while I'm working."

JAMES LYLE'S STORY HAS CAUSED THE AIRPORT POLICE TO RE-EVALUATE AND ASK THAT QUESTION. IN THE MEANTIME, HE PROMISES TO FIGHT FOR WHAT HE CALLS HIS RIGHT OF EXPRESSION.AND THE CHANCE TO COVER IT UP IF NEED BE. Return to index of stories...

7 AM PKG MITT PLUCKS BIG BIRD-ONCAM

7 AM PKG MITT PLUCKS BIG BIRD-PKG

HE'S GONE FROM BEING A HAPPY GO LUCKY BIRD.

I'm happy to be me.

TO THE UNEMPLOYMENT LINE. ALL BECAUSE OF A COUPLE OF MITT ROMNEY LINES.

I'm gonna stop the subsidy to PBS. I'm gonna stop other things, I

like PBS. I love big bird. But I'm not gonna keep spending money on things we borrow from China to pay for.

LET THE MOCKERY BEGIN. "OBAMA GOT BIN LADEN. I'LL GET BIG BIRD." "YOU TELL THAT SO AND SO ROMNEY, ANYONE WHO BLEEPS WITH BIG BIRD, BLEEPS WITH ME." BIG BIRD EVEN EXTENDED HIS MIDDLE FINGER AT THE CANDIDATE.

Are you gonna kill the one we know and all love?! Big bird?!

BIG BIRD STARTED HIS OWN PARODY TWITTER ACCOUNT. HE REACTED BY CRYING. HE SHOWED UP IN A DEBATE SPLIT SCREEN.

I like PBS. I love Big Bird.

HIS REACTION WAS A SCREAM.

Not gonna keep spending money on things to borrow from china to pay for.

HIS RESPONSE INCLUDED A MESSAGE.

F-U M-I-T-T.

A MESSAGE SPELLED OUT FOR MITT.

F-U M-I-T-T.

AND THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME MITT ROMNEY HAS THREATENED BIG BIRD. HE IS A SERIAL BIG BIRD STALKER.

I like Big Bird and bert and ernie.

I like PBS. I like watching Big Bird.

I like Big Bird and Bert and Ernie for my grand kinds to watch.

ONE BIG BIRD FAN GAVE PRESIDENT OBAMA FLAK FOR NOT STICKING UP FOR BIG BIRD.

All he had to say was this guy wants to get rid of Big Bird. He got rid of your jobs. Now he wants to get rid of Big Bird's job.

THE DAY AFTER THE DEBATE, THE PRESIDENT DID JOIN THE MOCKERY.

I mean thank goodness someone is finally getting tough on Big Bird. We didn't know Big Bird was driving the federal deficit.

TO BE CLEAR, CUTTING PBS FUNDING MIGHT NOT DIRECTLY ENDANGER BIG BIRD, SINCE SESAME STREET GETS MOST OF ITS MONEY FROM CORPORATE FUNDING AND DONATIONS. STILL MITT ROMNEY WAS DEPICTED MAKING BIG BIRD THANKSGIVING DINNER. "IF ROMNEY WINS, I DIE." BUT GOVERNOR ROMNEY OFFERED SOME HOPE.

I'm not gonna kill Big Bird I promise. But there are gonna be advertisements on PBS to pay for Big Bird.

Big Bird is gonna have to get used to Kellogg's Cornflakes.

MAYBE THIS IS WHAT IT WOULD HAVE SOUNDED LIKE.

I'm gonna stop the subsidy to PBS.

Well that's too bad.

IF BIG BIRD HAD JOINED THE DEBATE.

I like PBS.

Oh?

JEANNE MOOS, CNN,

I love big bird.

Really?!
