-batallion chief ryan lamb/EMS-"it was difficult to even see where the car had entered the canal b/c the brush was so thick in that area."
Once divers got to the submerged vehicle, the driver, gilian crosdale, had been in the water for 10 minutes.
-lamb-"once they had her at the surface we were able to put her on a backboard and begin recessutation measures at that time."
According to cape coral police, crosdale was traveling southbound on andalusia boulevard when the driver of a white toyota carolla pulled out in front of her. Crosdale hit the carolla on the passenger side, before driving through an empty lot and plunging into the canal.
-lamb-"she was found in cardiac arrest."
Pulling the car from the canal proved to be a challenge for tow truck driver shawn long.
-long-"we came out with chainsaws and axes. We keep that in our truck because you never know what you're going to run into.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
The nice comfortable humidity levels have arrived at Southwest Florida and they're here to stay for a few days. The official morning low of 69º in Fort Myers was the coolest morning since May 22 of this year.
Between a big ridge of High Pressure producing calm weather to our north and Tropical Depression #16 near the Bahamas, we're getting a northeast wind that will persist through the first half of the weekend, keeping rain chances near zero.
By the weekend, the wind will begin to turn more easterly and lose its northerly component. Once this happens, tropical moisture will start creeping back into Southwest Florida, which will increase our clouds and rain chances.
There may be an isolated shower in spots Sunday afternoon, but the better rain chance will be on Monday afternoon with the chance going to 30%.
After Monday, the atmosphere dries again and we'll be into mostly sunny days again.
