THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
We've enjoyed three days in a row with comfortable humidity and incredibly low rain chances, but we'll have to make a few tweaks to our Sunday forecast.
Some Atlantic moisture will work across the peninsula and build into Southwest Florida today, produce a few more clouds and bringing back the chance for a passing afternoon shower. Our rain chance will still be pretty low, ranging from 20-30%, but at least a few isolated showers are worth mentioning during the second half of our Sunday.
Aside from a few hit-or-miss showers, we'll enjoy a mix of sun and clouds during the afternoon with our highs close to 90. The breeze will also stay fairly strong through the day with winds out of the east between 5-10 and gusts up to 20 mph.
Another change we'll notice today is an uptick in humidity. While we don't expect to get back to the oppressive summertime humidity levels, the air won't be quite as pleasant as what we've experience for the last few days.
We'll also see a momentary end to low in the upper 60s. Even though our sky will stay mostly clear through tonight, temperatures will only manage to cool into the low to mid 70s.
Monday will be very similar. Our sky will become partly cloudy during the afternoon, and a few showers will pop up as well. Overall, our rain chance will be close to 20-30%, so most spots will stay dry.
The good news for those of us who got used to the lower humidity and lows in the upper 60s is we expect to get another dose of dry air Tuesday. This dry air should considerably lower humidity and rain chances Tuesday and Wednesday, and by Wednesday morning, we should see temperatures return the mid to upper 60s.
Signs point to an even stronger cool front making it to Southwest Florida by the upcoming weekend, so this is something we'll be tracking closely throughout the week. Before the cool front arrives, it looks like scattered rain will be possible Thursday and Friday before the slightly cooler and less humid air arrives by the end of the week.

TWO HEARTBROKEN SISTERS RECENTLY FLEW HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD TO PROVIDE D-N-A SAMPLES IN HOPES OF FINDING THEIR SISTER.
SHE DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACE IN LEE COUNTY 25 YEARS AGO.
TRISH ROUTTE HAS THE STORY ON HOW THE D-N-A, COMBINED WITH NEW INFORMATION COULD LEAD TO THE DISCOVERY OF THE YOUNG WOMAN.
Return to index of stories...
Half a world away from the streets of Lee County, a family still struggles for answers on what happened to their sister, who mysteriously vanished during a church mission trip from Japan 25 years ago.
Det. Mike Carr - "They were over here raising funds through the sale of hand made puppets, and they were going door to door to generate funds for this church."
However on the night of July 10, 1986, Hiromi Kazuni failed to return to her group that night. And despite years of investigation, she has still yet to turn up - dead or alive.
Trish Routte: Hiromi was last seen by a man near this intersection in 1976. An extensive investigation was immediately launched, and even Crime Stoppers got involved. Several good leads did come out of that pursuit, and a person of interest is still out there, but at the end of the day, Hiromi was never found. Now, some new information has come to light, and detectives hope to combine that with some other details to help find this missing woman 25 years later.
After extensive work, Hiromi's family was tracked down in Japan, and recently they came to Lee County, along with members of the church and the Japanese Consulate, to help investigators find their sister. Even her identical twin provided a DNA sample which could be pivotal in finding the lost woman.
Det. Carr - "That's been submitted and will be entered into the national database and run against all missing persons just for an update."
That DNA swab will also be matched up against all unidentified remains that have been found across the country in hopes of finding a match.
Hiromi's sisters made a plea for the public's help.
SISTER in Japanese - "I'm her twin sister, so she will look like me. So please if anyone sees someone who looks like her, make contact."
And though the years have passed, detectives are confident their new information, combined with the DNA sample, and more input from the community, will give a grieving family some closure after more than two decades.
Det. Carr - "As time passes, people tend to feel a little more open when it's not right then and there."
The family, and investigators, are hoping someone in the community will remember seeing Hiromi, who also used the English name of "Rachel."
For Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, I'm Trish Routte.

FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
