"Thursday will bring more sunshine and drier weather"

Our Wednesday was filled with more clouds than sunshine, which kept temperatures slightly cooler today in the middle 80s. Some changes will be in the forecast for our Thursday as the clouds move out and the sunshine moves back in.

For the rest of our Wednesday, clouds will continue to thicken up across Southwest Florida with a few scattered downpours mainly east of I75. The rain will certainly not be widespread, and most of the activity should diminish as we head past sunset. Tonight, clouds will linger across Southwest Florida with a couple of leftover showers as lows settle into the lower 70s by morning.

Our Thursday, will start off with a few patchy clouds, but will offer more sunshine through the day as the clouds and moisture exit to our east and our atmosphere begins to dry out a bit. Mostly sunny skies will dominate with a mainly dry weather pattern with highs closing in on the upper 80s. Partly sunny skies will continue through our Friday, but with just enough moisture an isolated shower or two can't be ruled out during the afternoon and early evening hours.

The remnants of a weak front will wash out across Southwest Florida on Saturday continuing the chance for a couple of showers and storms. High pressure building in across the southeast and mid Atlantic states will be in control of our weather through the early part of the week, with mostly to partly sunny skies and temperatures in the middle to upper 80s as rain prospects remain next to none.

In the tropics, all is quiet for now with the exception of Hurricane Rafael. Rafael will be heading toward the north Atlantic through this evening and should become an extratropical cyclone later this evening and into tomorrow. Return to index of stories...

PLANS TO PRIVATIZE LICENSE PLATES.

FLORIDA WILL RE-DESIGN THE PLATES-- MAKING THEM EASIER TO READ.

Jane lantieri isn't ready to get rid of the oranges on her license plate.

Sot Jane lantieri, driver

I like the plates the way they are, bc it says a lot about Florida."

But Jane - and 15 million other drivers in Florida could be forced to trade in the states iconic green and white license plates with raised charters.

For a new, flat tag with black lettering.

That's because nearly 1 in 6 of the current plates- cant be read at tolls.

Sot major wheelock, driver

The whole purpose of the page is for people to identify the owner or driver of the car, so if the current ones with the raised letters don't work I'm all for the new black flat letters."

Most county tax collectors, including lee county's Larry hart, agree.

Sot Larry hart, lee county tax collector "We support the redesign of the license plate because its gonna make it legible and be a big asset for law enforcement as a whole."

But with the new plates,

Comes another proposal- for a new, private distributer.

The outside company would handle all mail and online orders.

Leaving many tax collectors with this question-

Sot Larry

Ae we going to get everything where it needs to go?"

Tax collectors from all over the state gathered in Tallahassee- Urging governor Rick Scott to stop this measure.

Doris Maloy, fl tax collectors inc president " let's not replace a system that is working well, with me that is more expensive and less customer friendly."

The Florida department of highway safety and motor vehicles says hiring a private company would actually save money and help eliminate waste in the system.

But this tax collector says the inconvenience- isn't worth it.

Sot Larry

We don't want to be in a situation where people are coming in saying I didn't get it in the mail."

A situation that would make a trip to the DMV- Even more frustrating.

Sot Jane

"They need to do something."

A vote is scheduled for next Tuesday.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

After a day of sunshine and comfortable humidity levels, moisture will return to Southwest Florida on our Wednesday.

Through the mid day hours, clouds will continue to thicken up across the area, keeping our skies mostly cloudy through the afternoon. This will keep our temperatures a bit lower compared to yesterday's high of 89°, while many of us top out in the middle 80s. A few scattered showers are possible as we head into the late afternoon/early evening hours, however the rain will not be widespread and any rain that develops will more than likely come to an end after sunset.

Tonight, clouds will linger across Southwest Florida with a couple of leftover showers as lows settle into the lower 70s by morning.

Thursday will offer more sunshine across the area as the clouds exit to the east and our atmosphere begins to dry out. Expect mostly sunny skies and a mainly dry weather pattern with highs closing in on the upper 80s. Partly sunny skies will continue through our Friday, but with just enough moisture an isolated shower or two can't be ruled out during the afternoon and early evening hours.

The remnants of a weak front will wash out across Southwest Florida on Saturday continuing the chance for a couple of showers and storms. High pressure building in across the southeast and mid Atlantic states will be in control of our weather through the early part of the week, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the middle to upper 80s as rain prospects remain next to none.
