19 DAYS UNTIL THE NOVEMBER ELECTION.

THE PRESIDENT AND MITT ROMNEY TAKE THE FIREWORKS FROM THEIR DEBATE TO THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL.

JUST TWO DAYS AFTER TRADING JABS,

THEY RETURN TO NEW YORK TONIGHT - ON THE SAME STAGE.

NBC'S PETER ALEXANDER REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

POLITICS TODAY-PKG

"We need to take back America! It's up to you guys in Virginia!"

After a fiery debate. the heated arguments between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama showed no signs of cooling Wednesday night.

"Actually he seems to spend most of his time in these debates talking about why my plans aren't going to work. I wish he'd spend a little more time explaining why his plans have NOT worked 1/8cheers 3/8"

"You've heard of the New Deal Ohio, you've heard of the Fair Deal. Mitt Romney's trying to sell you a sketchy deal. But we're not buying it."

At his evening stop in Ohio -- his SIXTEENTH trip to the battleground this year -- the President even made this plea.

"I want your vote. I--I am not too proud to beg. I want your vote."

The latest flashpoint between the two men -- WOMEN, the nation's largest demographic -- with recent polls showing a narrowing gap between the two.

. both sides trying to cast the other as an economic threat.

"This president has failed America's women. They've suffered in terms of getting jobs."

The Obama campaign tried to capitalize on one of the town hall's most enduring lines -- where Governor Romney recalled his efforts to hire more women in Massachusetts.

"I went to a number of women's groups and said, can you help us find folks, and they brought us whole binders full of women."

"We don't have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women, ready to learn and teach in these fields right now."

Mr. Romney's "binders" comment was quickly mocked across the Internet.

. and even drove a Democratic group to buy the website "bindersfullofwomen.com"

The Romney campaign pushed back.

. producing this video of the former Governor's female Cabinet members praising his leadership.

"He totally gets working women."

Meanwhile, during a radio interview Wednesday, Governor Romney's oldest son Tagg joked about his reaction to some of the contentious exchanges during Tuesday's debate.

SOT:

Bill LuMaye: What is it like for you to hear the President of the United States call your dad a liar? How do you react to that?

Tagg Romney: Well, jump out of your seat and you want to rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him. But you know you can't do that because -- well, first 'cause there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also 'cause this is the nature of the process, they're going to try to do everything they can do to try to make my dad into someone he's not. We signed up for it. We've gotta kinda sit there and take our punches and then send them right back the other way. Return to index of stories...

Kelly: This individual came here with the expressed purpose of committing a terrorist act. Uh he was motivated by al quaeda.

FEDERAL AGENTS SAY IN JULY HE WAS TRYING TO RECRUIT OTHERS TO HELP CARRY OUT HIS ATTACK. MEETING WITH ONE MAN SEVERAL TIMES, once IN NEW YORK'S CENTRAL PARK. THAT MAN TURNED OUT TO BE AN FBI INFORMANT. AND FROM THAT MOMENT ON, NAFIS WAS UNDER INTENSE SURVEILLANCE BY THE FBI AND NEW YORK POLICE.

Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"More sunshine, less rain"

More clouds than sunshine dominated our skies yesterday, and Thursday will bring some changes to our weather pattern.

The upper level disturbance responsible for the mostly cloudy skies and scattered downpours continues to move out this morning. We'll start the day with a few patchy clouds and even some areas of fog, especially for those that saw the rain yesterday evening.

As that moisture pushes eastbound, some drier air in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere will sink its way across the peninsula. This means more sunshine is in store for today, and as a result temperatures will get a boost back into the upper 80s. With some residual moisture, we can't rule out a couple of isolated showers, however the vast majority of Southwest Florida should stay dry.

Tonight, clearing skies will prevail and lows will dip into the low 70s with a few upper 60s north and inland.

Our Friday will consist of partly sunny skies and the chance for a couple of showers, as a weak cool front approaches North Florida. This front will eventually wash out across the state by Saturday leaving us with partly sunny skies and highs in the middle to upper 80s. High pressure will build in across the southeast states, bringing pleasant conditions Sunday with plenty of sunshine and even a dip in our humidity levels. Our sunny weather pattern will persist through early next week with rain prospects remaining slim to none.

Return to index of stories...

OBESE ORGAN DONATIONS-CLIP VO IN PLASMA

RIGHT NOW IN AMERICAN,

THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS WAIT FOR KIDNEY DONATIONS.

AND FOR MANY REASONS.

- NOT ENOUGH DONORS - FINDING A MATCH - THE LIST GOES ON.

BUT THERE'S ONE REASON YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT.

DOREEN GENTZLER REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

OBESE ORGAN DONATIONS-PKG

"I've never had time to volunteer for anything. I've never been in a position to write a check for something I believe in. But this was something I could do."

66-YEAR-OLD CHRISTINE HALL WANTED TO DONATE A KIDNEY TO A TOTAL STRANGER.

SHE SAYS SHE DIDN'T HAVE ANY BIG REASONS FOR DOING SO. JUST A DESIRE TO GIVE BACK.

"This was my chance to make a difference and do something for somebody."

BUT EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD THE WILL. SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE WEIGH -- LITERALLY. SHE WEIGHED TOO MUCH.

DOCTORS TOLD HER SHE WAS TOO FAT TO DONATE. A PROBLEM AFFECTING MILLIONS OF AMERICANS AND POTENTIAL ORGAN DONORS.

"It's really a national epidemic."

DR. MATTHEW COOPER IS DIRECTOR OF KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION AT MEDSTAR GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. HE SAYS THEY DON'T KEEP TRACK OF HOW MANY DONORS ARE OBESE, BUT HE'S BEING FORCED TO TURN MORE AND MORE PEOPLE AWAY BECAUSE OF THEIR WEIGHT.

"One of the things that we have learned is that obesity in organ donors is quite dangerous."

THAT'S BECAUSE BEING OVERWEIGHT IS A MAJOR RISK FACTOR FOR CHRONIC ILLNESSES THAT CAN LEAD TO KIDNEY DISEASE. AND IF YOU JUST HAVE ONE KIDNEY, THAT CAN BE FATAL.

"If we're in fact making dangerous decisions and/or not using our best judgments and end up creating the next group of folks who are going to need kidney transplants then we're really not serving the population."

RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO NATIONAL WEIGHT LIMIT FOR DONORS. BUT ABOUT 10 PERCENT OF HOSPITALS -- INCLUDING GEORGETOWN -- REQUIRE DONORS TO HAVE A BODY MASS INDEX UNDER 35.

"I was just determined to see it through and the only obstacle was totally under my control."

CHRISTINE HALL WORKED WITH GEORGETOWN DOCTORS AND NUTRITIONISTS TO LOSE THE WEIGHT.

SHE LOST 40 POUNDS IN ABOUT 6 MONTHS. HER MOTIVATION? SAVING ANOTHER PERSON'S LIFE.

"There was a match for me and he was waiting and so I was on a mission. I was eating for two. So every time I was tempted to eat something I shouldn't, I thought about him."

SHE CONTINUED DROPPING THE WEIGHT, EVEN AFTER HER SURGERY -- LOSING A TOTAL OF 85 POUNDS.

"I owe him as much as he owes me. Because he gave me the motivation to do something I've been wanting to do for years. So in a way, I feel like I got more than I gave, because he gave me the gift of good health." Return to index of stories...
