From the races-

To the poker room-

Some residents say this is enough.

Sot ray Maloney, Bonita resident

My preference is no slot machines."

The decision as to if slot machines can move into the Naples fort Myers greyhound track- is up to voters.

Sot izzy havenick, track owner

"There's already gambling in lee county that the voters didn't get to decide on and this is a way for them to decide that one business, which is already a gambling facility is entitled to have an expanded product."

To get the word out about lee county ordinance 12-13,

The owners of the track are making their opinion known-

From dealers wearing these shirts

To commercials on the radio and tv.

Nat ad

" by allowing slots at the Naples- fort Myers greyhound track, you can save hundreds of local jobs."

If slots aren't approved- no jobs will be in danger.

But if they're approved- 500 local residents will gain employment at the track,

And another 800 people will be hired to help build it.

Sot Kyle bohsancurt, Bonita resident

" it's a win win for everybody."

Sot joelle

" if slots a approved and successful, the Naples fort Myers greyhound track has 5 acres to expand on, that's one of ten things that opponents are worried about- that all of these parking spots will be permanently filled."

Sot ray

" they bring an element with it that it's just rather ot have to deal with."

Bonita springs city council- unanimously approved a development agreement for the future.

City leaders hoping it passes to bring in that extra tax revenue,

And a little more fun.

Sot Kyle bohsancurt, Bonita resident

I think it'd be pretty good, I'd check it out."

But some would rather pay- than play.

Sot ray

I'd just as soon rather pay the taxes than have to put up with a lot of gamers in the area." Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

HURRICANE SANDY - GAME CHANGER FOR SWFL

First thing is first, Hurricane Sandy will not have a direct impact on southwest Florida. There are zero watches or warnings for us since Sandy will stay 300-400 miles to our east. Thus, all active watches and warnings are being issued for the east coast of our state.

What will it bring us? Breezy conditions, cloudy skies, and periods of rain for the next few days.

The weather coming after Sandy passes will be phenomenal - In fact, it's game changing.

Sandy is currently pushing to the north, and it's going to merge with a very large low pressure system heading for the northeast and mid Atlantic states. This will cause a mega storm to form around Chesapeake Bay - very comparable to the storm of the century we witnessed in the early 90s.

Sandy may rewrite the record books

It has the possibility of causing millions, if not billions, of dollars in damage across the northeastern United States when it makes landfall on Tuesday.

It'll be such a mega system that it may very well catapult us into the dry season. Sound familiar? It should. Hurricane Wilma did it a few years back.

We're going to see a lot of sunshine after Sandy passes, and yes cool fall weather, from the start of your day to the beginning.

Lows will be in the lower 50s and we could possibly see an upper 40s in some spots next week. Highs will struggle to get pass 75!

Say so long, farewell to the rainy season! Return to index of stories...

"but this is what the jobless rate actually is, 8.1 percent"

BUT HOW MUCH OF THE STATE OF OUR ECONOMY REALLY FALLS INTO THE PRESIDENT'S HANDS?

"Obama's spending drove us 5 trillion deeper in debt"

HERE'S WHAT WE FOUND:

YES. THE DEBT SINCE OBAMA WAS SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT *HAS INCREASED BY AS MUCH.

BUT IT'S NOT ENTIRELY CORRECT TO SAY IT WAS HIS SPENDING THAT DID IT.

ACCORDING TO THE CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE--

FROM 2009 TO 2011 -- THE LOST REVENUE AND ADDITIONAL SPENDING EACH YEAR CAME FROM A SLEW OF SOURCES. INCLUDING POLICIES FROM THE BUSH ERA.

OUR RULING:

WHILE THE DEBT HAS GROWN 5 TRILLION DEEPER SINCE OBAMA TOOK OFFICE, IT CAN'T *ALL BE ATTRIBUTED TO HIS SPENDING.

FIRST, THE COMMISSION RULED THERE IS PROBABLE CAUSE SKIDMORE VIOLATED THE LAW "by using his position as a County Commissioner to ask for special treatment in obtaining a liquor license for a third party"

DOCUMENTS SAY SKIDMORE BRIBED AN EMPLOYEE WITH NASCAR TICKETS TO ISSUE A LIQUOR LICENSE TO A BUSINESS.

SECONDLY, "he asked County employees to look for and selectively enforce code violations against his ex-wife's new family."

REPORTS GO ON TO SAY HE OFFERED AN EMPLOYEE A PAY RAISE TO FIND VIOLATIONS AT A RESTAURANT OWNED BY HIS EX-WIFE'S NEW HUSBAND.

AND LASTLY "He requested a County employee continue a hearing for the benefit of himself or a third party."

DOCUMENTS SAY POSTPONING THE HEARING WOULD'VE BENEFITING SKIDMORE WHO EXPRESSED INTEREST IN BUYING THE PROPERTY.

STANDUP "Over the phone, Skidmore says his next step is to request a hearing with an administrative law judge. That'll give him the chance to give his side of the story, something the ethics commission didn't hear. At that point, Skidmore is confident the allegations will be dropped."

THESE RULINGS ARE NOT CONVICTIONS THEY JUST SAY THERE'S ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THAT HE MAY HAVE VIOLATED FLORIDA ETHICS LAWS.
