Sandy may rewrite the record books
It has the possibility of causing millions, if not billions, of dollars in damage across the northeastern United States when it makes landfall on Tuesday.
It'll be such a mega system that it may very well catapult us into the dry season. Sound familiar? It should. Hurricane Wilma did it a few years back.
We're going to see a lot of sunshine after Sandy passes, and yes cool fall weather, from the start of your day to the beginning.
Lows will be in the lower 50s and we could possibly see an upper 40s in some spots next week. Highs will struggle to get pass 75!
Say so long, farewell to the rainy season!

TONIGHT, TENSION IS GROWING WITHIN ONE OF THE TOP PRODUCE COMPANIES IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
"LIPMAN PRODUCE" IS ACCUSED OF KNOWINGLY HIRING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND TRYING TO COVER IT UP.
NBC2'S GABY FLEISCHMAN EXAMINED THE 27-PAGE FEDERAL LAWSUIT A WHISTLEBLOWER FILED.
HE CLAIMS HE WAS OFFERED CASH TO KEEP QUIET.

"That whistleblower is a former employee of Lipman Produce. He's accusing company executives of firing him-- then trying to pay him to keep quiet about the company allegedly hiring illegal aliens to work on their farms."

AND IT'S BASED IN IMMOKALEE.
LIPMAN PRODCUE, FORMERLY KNOWN AS SIX L'S-- EMPLOYS THOUSANDS OF WORKERS.
ONE OF THEIR FORMER EMPLOYEES IS NOW SUING THEM.
BRIAN BISHOP SAYS AFTER 14 YEARS OF WORKING WITH LIPMAN, HE WAS FIRED FOR RAISING CONCERNS ABOUT THE COMPANY HIRING ILLEGAL WORKERS.
HE FILED A FEDERAL LAWSUIT AGAINST THE COMPANY--
THE COMPLAINT SAYS BISHOP WROTE AN EMAIL TO HIS SUPERVISOR, 'OBJECTING TO AND EXPRESSING SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT LIPMAN'S PRACTICE OF HIRING ILLEGAL ALIENS IN THEIR FARMING LABOR.'
TWO DAYS LATER, BISHOP WAS FIRED.
BISHOP CLAIMS 'LIPMAN KNOWINGLY EMPLOYED ILLGEAL ALIENS AND THEN CONSPIRED AND ATTEMPTED TO COVER UP THIS PATTERN OF ILLEGAL ACTIVITY BY FIRING HIM FOR HIS OBJECTION.'
HE THEN SAYS HE WAS OFFERED 84-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO KEEP QUIET.
THE LAWSUIT ALSO STATES THE ILLEGAL HIRING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS AND 'WILL CONTINUE INTO THE FUTURE UNLESS HALTED BY JUDICIAL INTERVENTION."

GOVERNOR SCOTT REVEALED HIS EDUCATION PLAN FOR THE STATE OF FLORIDA IN FORT MYERS THIS MORNING.
HE SAYS "ACCOUNTABILITY IN TRANSITION" IS HIS FIRST GOAL.
FLORIDA IS MOVING TOWARD A 'COMMON CORE' SYSTEM OF TESTING.
46-STATES ALREADY USE THOSE STANDARDS WHICH SCOTT SAYS WILL BETTER ACCESS LEARNING THAN THE F-CAT.
NEXT - SUPPORT TEACHERS.
THE GOVERNOR WANTS 2-MILLION DOLLARS FOR TEACHER TRAINING GRANTS.
HIS THIRD GOAL CALLS FOR MORE FLEXIBILITY IN EDUCATION.
HE WANTS TO DO THAT BY PUSHING MORE STATE MONEY TOWARD CHARTER SCHOOLS.
THAT'S JUST ONE AREA WHERE THE GOVERNOR CLASHES WITH THE STATE'S TEACHERS' UNION.
NBC-2'S CHAD OLIVER TALKS ONE-ON-ONE WITH *BOTH SIDES.

TODAY AT HARBORSIDE EVENT CENTER GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT ANNOUNCED HIS EDUCATION AGENDA.
"A great education gives you a start to your dreams like nothing else."
MOST - HEARING HIS IDEAS FOR THE FIRST TIME.
NOT MARK CASTELLANO. THE PRESIDENT OF LEE COUNTY'S TEACHERS ASSOCIATION RECEIVED TWO CALLS FROM THE GOVERNOR YESTERDAY.
"the Governor's on the phone. Okay! you know it's something I never expected."
UNEXPECTED BECAUSE SINCE TAKING OFFICE - SCOTT'S MOVES HAVE ANGERED UNION LEADERS.
"If they do not slow it down - we're going to see the train wreck."
HE'S REFERRING TO PAY SCALE CHANGES. NO TENURE FOR NEW TEACHERS. AND NEW MANDATES FOR TESTING. NOW CASTELLANO IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE EXPANSION OF CHARTER SCHOOL OPTIONS.
Why are we going to do that as opposed to giving that money to the district to operate its traditional schools.
"Look it's your money. Your family is paying sales taxes and property taxes you're paying for education. So you want that money to be spent where a student is going to have more success."
ONE AREA ALL SIDES AGREE - TEACHERS NEED HELP. IT'S ESTIMATED MOST SPEND BETWEEN 400 AND 2-THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR ON SUPPLIES.
"Instead of teachers taking money out of their own accounts to pay for school supplies. Governor Scott wants to give them state-issued debit cards. The details though still need to be worked out."
THE GOVERNOR TOLD ME HE WILL *NOT CUT NEXT YEAR'S EDUCATION BUDGET.
"We're going to keep the funding we have now or put more into it.
CASTELLANO DISAGREES WITH SCOTT VIEWING EDUCATION AS AN *INDUSTRY. BUT APPLAUDS THE FORMER C-E-O ON REACHING OUT.
I will give him credit for the desire to beginning conversations with all the stakeholders." 33

The michael g rippe parkway is popular with motorists but some say it's also dangerous.
-joseph kowalski/motorist-"we've seen 3 accidents in 4 or 5 days. We expected to see accidents before they even started planning this thing but didn't think it would be as bad as it is."
According to the lee county sheriff's office, there have been 38 traffic stops and 3 crashes at the intersection of briarcliff road and michael g rippe parkway. Since the extension opened last sunday.
The most recent happened yesterday - prompting a renewed public push - for a traffic signal at the intersection.
-debbie tower/FDOT-"we have to make sure a traffic signal will manage volumes of traffic at that intersection before engineers can approve it."
But for frustrated motorists - like joseph kowalski - he fears a public safety issue is turning political.
-kowalski-"its typical politics. Sounds like county is blaming the state now that they didn't have an answer."

MORE TROUBLE TONIGHT FOR CHARLOTTE COUNTY COMMISSIONER ROBERT SKIDMORE.
THE STATE CLAIMS HE VIOLATED STATE ETHICS LAWS *THREE* TIMES!
NBC-2'S CHARLIE KEEGAN BREAKS OUT THE DETAILS IN THE RULING.
Return to index of stories...
FROM HIS OFFICE ON THE FIFTH FLOOR TO HIS SEAT ON DYAS, CHARLOTTE COUNTY COMMISSIONER ROBERT SKIDMORE HAS ALWAYS DENIED THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM.
IT'S A STANCE HE CONTINUES TO HOLD EVEN AFTER THE FLORIDA COMMISSION ON ETHICS UPHELD THREE OF THE FOUR ALLEGATIONS AGAINST HIM.
FIRST, THE COMMISSION RULED THERE IS PROBABLE CAUSE SKIDMORE VIOLATED THE LAW "by using his position as a County Commissioner to ask for special treatment in obtaining a liquor license for a third party"
DOCUMENTS SAY SKIDMORE BRIBED AN EMPLOYEE WITH NASCAR TICKETS TO ISSUE A LIQUOR LICENSE TO A BUSINESS.
SECONDLY, "he asked County employees to look for and selectively enforce code violations against his ex-wife's new family."
REPORTS GO ON TO SAY HE OFFERED AN EMPLOYEE A PAY RAISE TO FIND VIOLATIONS AT A RESTAURANT OWNED BY HIS EX-WIFE'S NEW HUSBAND.
AND LASTLY "He requested a County employee continue a hearing for the benefit of himself or a third party."
DOCUMENTS SAY POSTPONING THE HEARING WOULD'VE BENEFITING SKIDMORE WHO EXPRESSED INTEREST IN BUYING THE PROPERTY.
STANDUP "Over the phone, Skidmore says his next step is to request a hearing with an administrative law judge. That'll give him the chance to give his side of the story, something the ethics commission didn't hear. At that point, Skidmore is confident the allegations will be dropped."
THESE RULINGS ARE NOT CONVICTIONS THEY JUST SAY THERE'S ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THAT HE MAY HAVE VIOLATED FLORIDA ETHICS LAWS.
THE COMMISSION RULED THERE IS NO PROBABLE CAUSE TO SUPPORT CLAIMS SKIDMORE ASKED EMPLOYEES TO WAIVE CODE VIOLATIONS AGAINST ONE RESIDENT.
THE REPUBLICAN'S TERM ON THE COUNTY COMMISSION ENDS NEXT MONTH.
