FIRST WX JIM-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"HURRICANE SANDY KICKS UP OUR WINDS"

Our skies will stay mostly cloudy and will give way to a few passing showers from time to time. While most of the wet weather will be along the east coast of Florida, showers associated with Sandy could pinwheel across Southwest Florida at almost anytime of the day.

Tonight, breezy winds will continue under mostly cloudy skies with a few showers. Lows tonight will settle into the lower half of the 70s.

By Saturday, Hurricane Sandy will begin to pull away from the peninsula with it's eyes set on the eastern seaboard anywhere from the mid Atlantic to New England. Our weather will remain a bit on the breezy side, however the threat for any rain will diminish and the clouds will begin to thin out. Daytime highs over the weekend will be several degrees below normal as most locations will warm into the lower 80s.

A cold front currently located across the Mississippi Valley will pass through Southwest Florida on Monday bringing significant changes to our weather pattern. A much cooler and drier airmass will sink it's way down the state keeping daytime highs in the mid 70s and lows in the lower 50s by Tuesday, which means many of our inland and northern cool spots will plummet into the 40s. GUS ROSENDALE REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

NANNY KILLINGS-PKG

HER JOB WAS TO PROTECT AND CARE FOR CHILDREN BUT TONIGHT, THIS NANNY, LEFT ON A STRETCHER AND POLICE BELIEVE SHE IS A KILLER AND TOOK A KITCHEN KNIFE AND STABBED TO DEATH TWO OF THE KIDS SHE LOOKED AFTER IN THIS UPPER WESTSIDE APARTMENT BUILDING AT 75TH OFF COLUMBUS AVENUE.

We've been here 30 to 40 years and we have never heard of anything like this in the building.

Unbelievable, just unbelievable. Just can't imagine how the parents must feel.

POLICE SAY THE MOTHER OF THE TWO VICTIMS CAME HOME WITH HER THIRD CHILD. A THREE YEAR OLD GIRL WHO HAD BEEN AT A SWIMMING LESSON AROUND 5:30 TONIGHT.

She is assuming that the nanny may have gone out with the children. She goes down to the lobby and asks the doorman if in fact they have gone out. He said no, She goes back up. The apartment is dark and she goes into the bathroom and that's when she discovers the bodies.

AFTER ENTERING HER DARK SECOND FLOOR APARTMENT SHE FOUND HER DAUGHTER AND SON STABBED TO DEATH IN THE BATHTUB. THEIR 50 YEAR-OLD NANNY WAS LAYING NEARBY, A KNIFE AT HER SIDE.

On the floor of the bathroom is the nanny who apparently had self inflicted wounds on her throat.

TONIGHT THE NANNY IS IN CRITICAL BUT STABLE CONDITION. POLICE COULD NOT IMMEDIATELY TELL HOW LONG SHE HAS WORKED FOR THE FAMILY OR IF SHE CAME FROM AN AGENCY. NEIGHBORS SAY THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN NOR HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS AND THEY CAN'T BELIEVE THE KIDS WHO PLAYED IN THE HALL ARE NOW GONE.

The laundry room is down there so if you would go to do laundry you just see them running back and forth down the hallway. Return to index of stories...

BLACK FRIDAY FADING-PKG

AS TRADITIONAL AS THE TURKEY ON THANKSGIVING. IS THE PLANNING FOR WHAT HAPPENS THE NEXT DAY. BLACK FRIDAY.

"You know.moms and daughters would be clipping coupons while dad watches football. and then they decide which stores they were going to hit, then go out and line up at 4 in the morning" 1020

BUT, YET AGAIN THIS YEAR, MANY ARE WONDERING WHETHER THE FAD OF BLACK FRIDAY IS FADING.

"I think a lot of consumers have realized that you don't necessarily get the best deal on Black Friday"

A NEW POLL, CONDUCTED BY IPSOS, FOUND THAT 40-PERCENT OF SHOPPERS STARTED THEIR HOLIDAY SHOPPING WEEKS AGO.

.WHILE ONLY 12-PERCENT WILL WAIT UNTIL BLACK FRIDAY TO BEGIN.

"We've talked about Christmas creep in years prior but it's really getting longer and longer"

GIVEN THE ECONOMY. BLACK FRIDAY'S FADE DOESN'T SURPRISE THOSE WHO FOLLOW RETAILING.

"I think it's one day that people go shopping but people are much more savvy about getting deals other times of the year and they're much more cautious with their money than they were 4 or 5 years ago"

BUT THEY SAY THE STORES REALIZE IT, TOO.

"Retailers are going to be clamoring to get a piece of that pie and therefore offering great deals to consumers much earlier than they usually do"

ANOTHER PREICTION THAT BODES WELL FOR RETAILERS. HALF THE SHOPPERS SURVEYED BY ACCENTURE SAY THEY EXPECT TO INCREASE THEIR SPENDING THIS YEAR BY AT LEAST 250 DOLLARS.BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER BLACK FRIDAY.

FUGITIVE FRIDAY-5 SS

We're starting off our list with a man who faces nine counts of doctor shopping, after visiting various local physicians in search of highly addictive drugs. Detectives say Justin Capobianco went from doctor to doctor, lying to each of them by failing to disclose that he was getting pills from other doctors at the same time. This 28 year old fugitive has a history of drug use and abuse, with a total of 8 prior arrests under his belt - two of which occurred in just the last two months. Among his other previous charges are arrests for theft, burglary, disorderly intoxication and violations of probation. Capobianco is believed to be laying low in the Cape Coral or Pine Island area and upon his arrest, he will be held without bond.

And trying to avoid arrest in Collier County is Leonard Albert Maxon, who's on the run for violating his probation following an arrest for two counts of the possession of a controlled substance. Maxon has a history of drug problems in both Lee and Collier Counties, with additional jail time in Sarasota for resisting arrest. Deputies believe Maxon may be moving around often in Southwest Florida, travelling between Naples and Venice, trying his best to stay under the radar, and out of jail. Maxon was last known to be employed as a property manager, working out of the Golden Gate area.

Next up is a 20 year old registered convicted felon wanted for failing to show up in court following an arrest for dealing in stolen property. Nicole Nunnick is looking at arrest number 10, after a very busy couple of years of seemingly non-stop criminal activity. Listed on her rap sheet are charges of fraud, drugs, battery, theft and smuggling contraband into a detention facility, among others. Her typical pattern is stealing various items, then using a fake ID to pawn the goods off for cold hard cash. Born and raised in Cape Coral, Nunnick currently has four felony warrants for her arrest. She is 5'5", 120 pounds and has a tattoo of a fish on her left arm and the word "Believe" on her left thigh.

And rounding out our list of lawbreakers on the lam is Oscar Rivera, wanted in Lee County for failing to show up in court following an arrest for drug charges. 35 year old Rivera has been amassed an array of mugshots over the years, with jailtime for aggravated battery, two DUIs, numerous drug infractions and habitually driving with a suspended license and violating terms of his probation. Rivera's most recent arrest was in June, and family members claim he took off shortly after his latest warrant was issued just last week. Last known to be working as a boat builder, Rivera tends to gravitate to various addresses in Cape Coral. He has several tattoos, including two lions on his back, the Puerto Rican flag on his left leg and the phrase "lost souls" on his arm. Return to index of stories...

WITH THE USE OF HEARING AIDES, HE'S WELL AWARE OF HIS SURROUNDINGS.

BUT WHEN IT'S RACE TIME, HE REMOVES THEM.RELYING ON HIS COACHES.

S/ Cameron Jackson/ Runner:33 -:40

"They'll tell me how the places are and if I'm doing good and if someone has come up, you know trying to sneak up behind me because I can't hear them."

AND WHILE CAMERON CAN'T HEAR THE CROWD'S THUNDEROUS CHEERS.NICK SAYS ITS THE SOUND THAT GUIDE HIM.

S/ Luis Barraza/ Teammate 1:12 - 1:15

MUNSTERS REBOOT-2 SHOT

REMEMBER HERMAN, LILLY AND THE MONSTROUS GANG ON MOCKINGBIRD LANE?

THE MUNSTERS GRACED LIVING ROOMS ALMOST FIFTY YEARS AGO!

AND TONIGHT THEY GET A MODERN REBOOT.

MARK BARGER HAS A PREVIEW. Return to index of stories...

MUNSTERS REBOOT-PKG

nats "I forgot my key."

1313 MOCKINGBIRD LANE WAS HOME TO THE SITCOM "THE MUNSTERS" ALMOST 50 YEARS AGO.

THE PLACE LOOKS DIFFERENT NOW.

SO DO HERMAN AND LILY MUNSTER.

nats "Herman, what happened to your heart? I loved too hard."

"MOCKINGBIRD LANE" IS NBC'S REBOOT

OF THE CLASSIC 60'S COMEDY ABOUT A LOVABLE FAMILY OF MONSTERS TRYING TO BE NORMAL.

nats "Battle Pine Lake, here we come!"

"While it is an homage to the original, I think it's going to be very enjoyable for people who don't know the

original."

THIS TIME AROUND, THERE'S NO LAUGH TRACK.LOTS OF SPECIAL EFFECTS.

AND DEFINITELY MORE OF AN EDGE.

nats "My grandpa's going to eat you. Is that happening tonight?"

"Yes, things do get killed and eaten, but in a fun way."

nats "I'll never go again!"

BACK IN THE 60s, TURMOIL FOR YOUNG EDDIE MUNSTER WAS BEING TOO SHORT.

nats "Your adoring Grandpa's going to give you a magic potion that makes you grow six inches overnight."

THESE DAYS.EDDIE'S TURMOIL IS NOT REALIZING HE'S MATURING INTO A WEREWOLF.

nats "Did Grandpa try to eat somebody again? Is that why we had to leave? No, not Grandpa"

"He's very confused. He doesn't really want to be a Munster. He doesn't want to be a monster!"

AND WHILE THIS NEW VERSION DOES ECHO THE ORIGINAL.

MOCKINGBIRD LANE'S VIBE IS UNIQUE.

"It is imaginative, it is dark, it is dramatic and twisted and offbeat and funny, but weird funny."

THE NEW NEIGHBORS ARRIVE TONIGHT.

nats "Welcome to your new home."

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

HALLOWEEN COSTUME SAFETY-2 SHOT

READY OR NOT IT'S TIME TO DO SOME TRICK-OR-TREATING!

BUT A NIGHT OF DRESSING UP CAN TURN INTO A NIGHTMARE IF YOUR CHILD GETS INJURED.

NBC'S ERIKA EDWARDS HAS TIPS TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE! Return to index of stories...

HALLOWEEN COSTUME SAFETY-PKG

"That was Cody last year, this was Cody last year!"

PICKING OUT THE PERFECT HALLOWEEN COSTUME IS A BIG DEAL FOR KIDS.

YOU HAVE YOUR PRINCESSES. MONSTERS. PIRATES. EVEN CRIME-FIGHTING SUPERHEROES.

WHATEVER THEY CHOOSE -- THE POINT OF A SUGAR-CRAZED, COSTUMED HOLIDAY IS TO HAVE THEM SQUEAL WITH DELIGHT. NOT SCREAM ALL THE WAY TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM.

ACCORDING TO THE U-S CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION -- BAD FALLS ARE A BIG REASON KIDS END UP IN THE HOSPITAL ON HALLOWEEN INSTEAD OF COUNTING THEIR CANDY.

"Make sure they're not tripping over the bottom half of the costume, and make sure they have shoes they can run in."

VISIBILITY IS KEY. EXPERTS RECOMMEND MAKING SURE MASKS HAVE BIG ENOUGH EYE HOLES SO KIDS CAN CLEARLY SEE WHERE THEY'RE GOING.

EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN'T SEE IN TO THESE BODY-HUGGING MORPHSUITS -- PARTY CITY'S ALYCIA REA SAYS KIDS CAN SEE OUT.

"You can see and hear out of them clearly, so they don't impede any of your senses which is really important of course when you're trick or treating."

FLASH LIGHTS, GLOW STICKS AND REFLECTIVE TAPE ON COSTUMES CAN ALSO HELP CARS SEE LITTLE TRICK-OR-TREATERS AFTER DARK.

FEDERAL LAW STATES THAT ALL HALLOWEEN COSTUMES AND HALLOWEEN ACCESSORIES SOLD IN THE U-S MUST BE FLAME RESISTANT.

BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY CAN'T CATCH FIRE. THE EXPERTS RECOMMEND COSTUMES THAT FIT WELL, WITHOUT BILLOWY SLEEVES LIKE THIS. THEY CAN EASILY IGNITE ON JACK-O-LANTERN CANDLES.

"Halloween is an exciting time. We can also make it a safe time."

SAFE -- FOR ALL OF YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD BOYS AND GHOULS.

ERIKA EDWARDS, NBC NEWS. Return to index of stories...
