As Hurricane Sandy pushes further away from south Florida - we'll see a gradual improvement in our weather.
We already noticed a few changes across the urban corridor on Friday. There was a mix of sun and clouds with just a few passing showers at. Elsewhere, if you live across the inland communities, you saw nothing but clouds and rain. Eventually dry air will filter into the area in the wake of Sandy, and that will scour all the gloom.
Sandy is currently in the transition of going from a tropical system to an extra-tropical system. An extra-tropical system is simply a normal low pressure you would see passing across the Plains or Great Lakes during the winter. Despite this transition, it's going to keep a lot of tropical characteristics and maintain its CAT 1 intensity. The track continues to be to the north, and it will not impact the east coast until Monday - Tuesday.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
GRADUALLY IMPROVING WEATHER
It will make landfall as a very intense storm, and it will be one we talk about for many years to come.
It's going to merge with another system, and that will cause it to energize. The area impacted will be from Maryland all the way to Massachusetts. The exact area seeing landfall has yet to be determined because we are so far out. When it gets closer to time, we will know, and we will for sure let you know, too. I can go ahead and tell you that models are getting in very good agreement that New Jersey is the bull's eye.
If you are from the mid-Atlantic and the northeast or have family living there - have a heads up. This will be the strongest storm we've seen in decades. Hurricane force wind gusts will be felt across the coast up their way, and tropical storm force winds will be felt in other ways. Coastal flooding is also a concern as is inland flooding because rain totals will be over 10 inches in some areas. Storm surge is another impact as is beach erosion. Ironically, there will be a full moon which will exacerbate tidal surge.
But wait! That's not all…
Arriving behind Sandy is a blast of cold Canadian air. What happens when you mix below freezing temperatures with moisture? Yes, you get wintry precipitation. That will be seen across portions of the Appalachians and other higher elevated surfaces.
This is a historical storm, and there will be damage and power outages. Please urge those you know living up north to have a plan ready.
Now here locally, I told you as Sandy moves away - we will see better weather. We will see that as soon as Sunday. Drier air will push in and give us a lot of sunshine and no rain. It'll also drop our temperatures to the mid 70s during the afternoon, and lower 50s during the mornings! The winds will also slack by the beginning of next week, too.
You'll love the change!
