Today's Weather Story
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
As Hurricane Sandy churns off the coast of Florida it will continue to impact our local weather.
As of this morning, Sandy remains a category one hurricane with sustained winds of 85 mph as it continues on a northwesterly path across the Bahamas. As Sandy makes it's closest approach to Southwest Florida during the day, the most noticeable impact will be the winds. North and northwesterly winds will kick up between 20 to 30 mph with gusts close to 40 through the afternoon hours.
Our skies will stay mostly cloudy and will give way to a few passing showers from time to time. While most of the wet weather will be along the east coast of Florida, showers associated with Sandy could pinwheel across Southwest Florida at almost anytime of the day.
Tonight, breezy winds will continue under mostly cloudy skies with a few showers. Lows tonight will settle into the lower half of the 70s.
By Saturday, Hurricane Sandy will begin to pull away from the peninsula with it's eyes set on the eastern seaboard anywhere from the mid Atlantic to New England. Our weather will remain a bit on the breezy side, however the threat for any rain will diminish and the clouds will begin to thin out. Daytime highs over the weekend will be several degrees below normal as most locations will warm into the lower 80s.
A cold front currently located across the Mississippi Valley will pass through Southwest Florida on Monday bringing significant changes to our weather pattern. A much cooler and drier airmass will sink it's way down the state keeping daytime highs in the mid 70s and lows in the lower 50s by Tuesday, which means many of our inland and northern cool spots will plummet into the 40s.

Full Forecast
