ELECTION 2012 --

ON THE FIRST DAY OF EARLY VOTING IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA

THE LINE AT THE SOUTH FORT MYERS POLLING PLACE *WRAPPED* AROUND THE BUILDING.

21:45 we had about a 45 minute wait

19:53 I waited in line about an hour

31:56 we got in line at 8:45. Took about an hour and a half for the whole process

AT THE CAPE CORAL BRANCH OFFICE-

VOTERS SAY THE WAIT WAS 3.5 HOURS!

WHILE MOST PEOPLE STOOD -

SOME HAD TO SIT IN WHILE THEY WAITED TO GET INSIDE.

kathy sanders/ fort myers

22:14 he said, let's get here early. I said give me a break, it's saturday morning! And when we got here we were amazed at how many people were ahead of us at 7:05.

20:12 i think people got the message that everyone wanted to vote early. And people are voting early."

IN JUST THE FIRST TWO HOURS THE POLLS WERE OPEN --

435 PEOPLE CAST THEIR BALLOTS IN LEE COUNTY.

NAT

A BIG REASON FOR THE LONG LINES ---

SATURDAY POLITICS-ONCAM

CONTINUING OUR POLITICAL TEAM COVERAGE THIS SATURDAY EVENING.

BOTH PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS ARE MAKING THE MOST OF THE LITTLE TIME THAT'S LEFT.

BUT THE APPROACH OF HURRICANE SANDY IS FORCING BOTH SIDES TO RETHINK STRATEGY - AND REWRITE THE CAMPAIGN MAP.

HERE'S NBC-2'S BRIAN MOOAR. Return to index of stories...

SATURDAY POLITICS-PKG

"Ten days, New Hampshire!"

IN THIS TIGHT PRESIDENTIAL RACE. EVEN TINY NEW HAMPSHIRE IS A BIG PRIZE.

AND AS PRESIDENT OBAMA STUMPED IN THE GRANITE STATE.

REPUBLICAN CHALLENGER MITT ROMNEY WAS TRYING TO NAIL DOWN SUPPORT IN FLORIDA.

"We are going to win this, you know that.

AND GOING INTO THE LAST FULL WEEK OF THE PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN.

BOTH CANDIDATES WERE REACHING OUT TO UNDECIDED VOTERS.

"I'm asking you to compare my plan with Gov. Romney's. I want you to know what we're proposing. Each of us and ee what is better for you.

Presidential Nominee :33 -:43

"Four years ago, then-candidate Barack Obama spoke about big things. Now he's reduced to talking about small things. He's shrinking from the magnitude of the times."

WHILE EARLY VOTING IS ALREADY UNDER WAY IN SEVERAL STATES.

THE THREAT OF HURRICANE SANDY IS THROWING BOTH CAMPAIGNS INTO DISARRAY.

GOVERNOR ROMNEY AND RUNNING MATE PAUL RYAN WERE FORCED TO CANCEL EVENTS IN VIRGINIA.

AND INSTEAD TURNED THEIR ATTENTION TO OHIO -

THE STATE THAT'S LOOKING MORE AND MORE LIKE A CLINCHER.

BOTH CANDIDATES ARE TIED IN THE POLLS IN OHIO. BUT PRESIDENT OBAMA HOLDS A 54-39 PERCENT LEAD AMONG EARLY VOTERS IN THE BUCKEYE STATE.

I'M BRIAN MOOAR IN WASHINGTON. NOW BACK TO YOU. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

Improving weather is on the way as Hurricane Sandy continues to pull away from Southwest Florida, but even as Sandy exits the Florida stage, the storm's expanding wind field will make for another gusty, blustery day across our part of the state.

Winds will ease up a little Sunday, but conditions will still be rather breezy with winds out of the northwest at 15 with gusts up to 20 mph.

On the brighter side, sunshine will dominate our sky through the weekend as a batch of dry, stable air pours in from the north. The dry air will also lead to a refreshing dip in humidity, and in fact, we'll start to notice this less humid air today.

Along with the dry air, we also expect a nice surge of cool air this weekend, which will likely bring the coolest weather we've had in several months.

Temperatures will even be noticeably cooler. With a northerly flow already in place, temperatures will only manage to climb into the low 80s. Conditions tonight into Sunday morning will also be fairly comfortable and cooler with lows dropping into the upper 60s.

We'll notice a more dramatic temperatures swing by early next week. On Monday and Tuesday, daytime temperatures will struggle to warm past the mid 70s. What's more, we'll even feel a little chill in the air during the overnights and early mornings. By Monday morning, we should cool into the upper 50s, and on Tuesday morning, temperatures will drop into the low 50s and possibly even upper 40s in the more rural settings!

Rain chances will also stay incredibly low through the next several days as dry, stable air stays over Southwest Florida.

It's safe to say autumn has arrived in Southwest Florida.
