TODAY'S WEATHER-wx wall

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Improving weather is on the way as Tropical Storm Sandy continues to pull away from Southwest Florida, but even as Sandy exits the Florida stage, the storm's expanding wind field will make for another gusty, blustery day across Southwest Florida.

Look for our winds will come in swiftly from the northwest through our today; sustained winds will range from 20-30 mph with gusts possibly reaching 35 mph. Winds will ease up a little Sunday, but conditions will still be rather breezy with winds out of the northwest at 15 with gusts up to 20 mph.

On the brighter side, sunshine will dominate our sky through the weekend as a batch of dry, stable air pours in from the north. The dry air will also lead to a refreshing dip in humidity, and in fact, we'll start to notice this less humid air today.

Along with the dry air, we also expect a nice surge of cool air this weekend, which will likely bring the coolest weather we've had in several months.

Temperatures will even be noticeably cooler today. With a northerly flow already in place, temperatures will only manage to climb into the low to mid 80s today, and temperatures will be similar Sunday, if not a few degrees cooler. Conditions tonight into Sunday morning will also be fairly comfortable and cooler with lows dropping into the upper 60s.

We'll notice the more dramatic temperatures swing by early next week. On Monday and Tuesday, daytime temperatures will struggle to warm past the mid 70s. What's more, we'll even feel a little chill in the air during the overnights and early morning. By Monday morning, we should be cool into the upper 50s, and on Tuesday morning, temperatures will drop into the low 50s and possibly even upper 40s in the more rural settings!

Rain chances will also stay incredibly low through the next several days as dry, stable air settles over Southwest Florida.

It's safe to say autumn has arrived in Southwest Florida. Return to index of stories...

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND IS USUALLY A BUSY ONE IN CAROLINA BEACH, NORTH CAROLINA.

BUT THE THREAT OF TROPICAL STORM OR HURRICANE SANDY IS KEEPING PEOPLE AWAY.

ASHLEA KOSIKOWSKI REPORTS.

SANDY HAS SOME VACATIONERS BLOWING OUT OF CAROLINA BEACH EARLY.

"We came down to do some fishing. and I guess the fish know it's gonna storm so they're hiding too. so we're gonna hide too."

AND MANY TOURISTS AREN'T COMING TO THE BEACH AT ALL.

"There were some people due in this afternoon who canceled."

LEANN PIERCE IS THE OWNER OF THE DRIFTERS REEF MOTEL. SHE SPENT THE DAY GETTING READY FOR THE STORM.

"We watch the storm --- and we're pretty used to it here --- and so, we take the precaution and we take in our pool furniture and our trash cans and anything that would blow around and secure them down so they're not flying around."

THE CITY OF CAROLINA BEACH ALSO SPENT THE DAY GETTING READY. IN ANTICIPATION OF HEAVY RAIN THEY DRAINED WATER FROM THE LAKE.

AND THEY REMOVED ALL THE TRASH CANS FROM THE BEACH.

MEANTIME BUSINESS OWNERS HOPE THE STORM BLOWS BY SO THEY CAN SALVAGE WHAT'S LEFT OF THE WEEKEND.

"We've had a beautiful week here at the beach and we've had a lot of people in. We're hoping for a good weekend though after the storm passes." Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-wx wall

FINAL WEATHER-WX WALL
