NATSOT
Fresh off his visit to the storm ravaged New Jersey Shore, President Obama returns to the campaign trail today.
On Wednesday, the president's focus, though, was all Sandy -- spending four hours surveying hurricane damage with New Jersey's Republican governor, Chris Christie.
NATSOT
with less than a week to go until the Election, the two leaders were an unlikely combination, practically inseparable, comforting victims in shelters and on the storm-ravaged streets.
Later, at a press conference, the president and governor--the gop's convention keynote speaker earlier this year--went out of their way to praise each other's leadership.
SOT:
CHRISTIE: I CANNOT THANK THE PRESIDENT ENOUGH FOR HIS PERSONAL CONCERN AND COMPASSION FOR OUR STATE AND FOR THE PEOPLE OF OUR STATE.
/FLASH/
OBAMA: I JUST WANT TO THANK HIM FOR HIS EXTRAORDINARY LEADERSHIP AND PARTNERSHIP.
For the president, the NJ trip was a chance to show his empathetic side as he comforted the owner of a marina destroyed by the storm.
NATSOT
OBAMA: HOW LONG YOU HAD THE MARINA? 1/8HUGS HER 3/8
WOMAN: 1/8EMOTIONAL 3/8 SINCE 1996.
OBAMA: 1996? NOTHING LIKE THIS EVER HAPPENED, HUH?
WOMAN: NEVER.
NATSOT
Meanwhile, Mitt Romney spent his Wednesday full-time on the trail in Florida. trying to balance campaigning and showing sensitivity for the storm victims:
SOT:
KEEP FOLKS IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. IT'S A BIG PART OF WHAT AMERICA IS. WHEN THERE ARE CHALLENGES, WE COME TOGETHER AND HELP ONE ANOTHER, AND THAT HELP IS NEEDED NOW.
And while Romney didn't shy away from criticizing the president's record, he did not mention Mr. Obama by name:
SOT:
WE SHOULD NOT CONTINUE ON THE SAME PATH, BUT IT IS TIME TO TAKE A NEW PATH OF BOLD, AGGRESSIVE CHANGE! 1/8CHEERS 3/8
Meanwhile, Paul Ryan and his wife Janna spent Halloween in their hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin, taking their kids trick-or-treating Wednesday.
NATSOT
While NBC NEWS/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls show a tightening race in key states, the president still holds leads in three of them.
In Iowa, President Obama maintains a six-point lead over Mitt Romney -- down from eight two weeks ago.
In Wisconsin, Romney has cut the president's lead in half. He now trails by just 3 points.
In New Hampshire, it's basically a dead heat -- the president with 49%, Romney with 47%. The Granite State will be Mitt Romney's final stop before Election Day.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"A weak front brings slight changes for Thursday"
After several days of nice weather across our part of the state, a very weak front will bring some slight changes to our Thursday.
A weak cold front will sag down the peninsula this afternoon keeping a mix of sun and clouds in the forecast with a slight chance for a few spotty showers during the afternoon and early evening. Temperatures will continue to run in the upper 70s to near 80°. While this front, won't bring another dose of colder air, it will reinforce the pleasant weather we've already been seeing.
As we head into Friday and the weekend, dry high pressure will clear things out and provide us with plenty of sunshine to fill our skies, along with a dry weather pattern that will hold across Southwest Florida. Expect temperatures to fall into the upper 50s to low 60s during the mornings with highs in the lower 80s during the afternoons.
By early next week, we'll be tracking another cold front that will bring isolated showers to Southwest Florida followed by another nice refreshing push of Autumn air.

AMERICANS WERE EXPECTED TO SPEND A WHOPPING 8 BILLION DOLLARS ON HALLOWEEN THIS YEAR, ACCORDING TO RETAILERS. THAT INCLUDES 2-POINT-3 BILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF CANDY.
BUT ALL THAT SWEET STUFF CAN SCARE PARENTS, SO CONSIDER SOME TRICKS FOR DEALING WITH TOO MANY TREATS.
HALLOWEEN CAN BE A SPOOKY TIME FOR PEDIATRIC DENTISTS WHO FRET OVER SUGAR AND THEIR PATIENTS' TEETH.

AND THIS YEAR, KIDS WHO'VE SEEN IMAGES OF THE AFTERMATH OF SUPERSTORM SANDY MAY WANT TO DO SOMETHING TO HELP. CONSIDER DONATING SOME TREATS TO KIDS ON THE EAST COAST WHOSE HALLOWEEN CELEBRATIONS MAY HAVE BEEN DISRUPTED.

THE VALUE OF THE FUEL STREAMING FROM THE NOZZLE INTO THE GAS TANK HAS BEEN CHANGING MORE THAN THE WEATHER LATELY. AND DRIVERS AREN'T TOO HAPPY ABOUT IT.
"I think it's outrageous."
"Nah I don't think anybody's happy about the price of gas but what are we gonna do?"
BUT THE MORE WE FILL UP. THE MORE WE SEEM TO GET USED TO PAYING HIGHER AND HIGHER PRICES.
SO WHAT IS THE NORMAL PRICE WE SHOULD BE PAYING AT THE PUMP?
"I would say anywhere under four dollars, I think, right now would be a decent price."
"Maybe three dollars, $2.50 I suppose would be nice."
"Most Americans would probably say if we were down to $2.50, that would probably be a little more normal."
BUT OVER THE YEARS, WE'VE CREATED A NEW NORMAL GETTING COMFORTABLE PAYING MORE AND MORE AT THE GAS PUMP.
"What we have is a constant recalibration of what our expectations are for prices."
"It wasn't that long ago that $1.35 a gallon seemed way too high. But times and attitudes have changed."
"If the prices stay up for a certain time period. our reference point's going to move up and then anything that comes down off of it after that is going to be 'oh this is great.'"
SO WHILE $3.99 A GALLON ONCE SEEMED LIKE A CRIMINAL PRICE TO PAY, SOME DRIVERS LOOK AT IT NOW WITH A SENSE OF RELEIF.

"I think we know we feel better when we're more active, when we're outside more."
AND AS THE DAYS GET SHORTER, AND THE WEATHER GETS COLDER. IT GETS HARDER TO KEEP THOSE HEALTHY SUMMER HABITS ALIVE, BUT REGISTERED DIETITIAN VALERIE EDWARDS SAYS IT'S IMPORTANT TO LIVE A HEALTHY, WELL-BALANCED LIFE ALL YEAR LONG.
"You can't go wrong with more fruit and vegetables."
IN THE SUMMER. IT'S EASY TO FIND LOCALLY GROWN FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.
"I love fruit, so I try to eat that and vegetables. try to keep it healthy."
WE PUT OUR FARMER'S MARKET FINDS ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER, AND SNACK AWAY.
IN THE FALL AND WINTER? WELL, IT JUST GETS HARDER. THE FRESH FRUITS AND VEGGIES THAT ARE IN SEASON REQUIRE A LOT MORE EFFORT TO EAT.
"A great way to make a bunch of vegetables in the winter is to roast them."
VALERIE ENCOURAGES HER PATIENTS TO THINK ABOUT KEEPING YOUR FOOD FRESH AND AVOID SOMETHING LIKE A CARB OVERLOAD. JUST BECAUSE IT'S COLD OUTSIDE.
"I think naturally we're going to act on some of those but we should balance out those urges by making a hearty soup but also including a lot of vegetables in it."
EAT LIGHT, EAT OFTEN, AND DON'T FORGET TO DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
"I drink a lot of water but I think that has to do with the fact that I do exercise a lot."
EXERCISE IS SO IMPORTANT NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER.
"The biggest thing people struggle with, of course, is maintaining exercise when the fall arrives. when it's rainy and its dark."
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP A GOOD FITNESS ROUTINE. YOU HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO WORK WITH THE WEATHER.
"if it's cold, you just layer up. and t-shirt, sweatshirt, sometimes jacket for the rain."
OR THINK ABOUT WAYS TO EXERCISE INSIDE.
"Gym memberships. gym's really good. go workout inside, they have tvs."
JUST MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO FEEL GOOD ALL YEAR LONG.

IT'S BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR THIS ELEVEN YEAR OLD DACHSHUND. SAYING HELLO TO EVERYONE WHO COMES THROUGH THE DOOR AT GUSLER'S AUTO SHOP.
"She's like a little celebrity around here."
"This dog has been with me a long time, got two kids but she's one of them. She's the third one."
BUT JUST A FEW DAYS AGO, TINKERBELL HAD BEEN MISSING FOR SIX MONTHS. AN EMPTINESS THAT THE GUSLER FAMILY SAYS LEFT THEM WITH BROKEN HEARTS.
"It was like losing a family member. It was really sad."
THE GUSLERS HAD ALMOST GIVEN UP HOPE ON FINDING TINKERBELL.WHEN KELLI GUSLER DECIDED TO TAKE A TRIP TO THE TRACTOR SUPPLY STORE WHERE THE FRANKLIN COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY WAS HOLDING AN ADOPTION EVENT.
ALL OF A SUDDEN KELLI SAYS A FRIENDLY FACE CAME RUNNING THROUGH THE CROWD.
"I could tell she recognized me and that was it I just started crying and lost it. I think everyone there thought I was crazy because I was saying that's my dads dog, I know that dog."
"Now Tinkerbell spends most of her days at the Gusler's auto shop, but her travels took her all the way to Pulaski county. That's 70 miles away from her home in Boones Mill."
THE GUSLER'S HAVE NO IDEA HOW TICKERBELL GOT THAT FAR AWAY. BUT SURE ARE GLAD SHE'S HOME.
"I was choked up. I just couldn't believe it. It has to be one in a million to find the lady that found her was in another county. So I mean for her to bring her was amazing."
THE GUSLER'S SAY TINKERBALL HASN'T MISSED A BEAT OR GREETING A CUSTOMER SINCE SHE'S BEEN BACK.
"I'm amazed, but I just think God put her back in out hands."
