THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Our stretch of pleasant weather continues this Monday, but a strong cool front will bring some considerable changes to Southwest Florida by Election Day.
Before we get to the big changes coming this week, let's focus on how our Monday plays out because we do expect a few changes today. First, you'll notice quite bit more cloud cover today compared to the clear blue skies we had over the weekend.
The reason why is there's a big band of clouds getting carried by the upper-level wind flow right into South Florida. Our sky shouldn't be completely clouded up, and we'll even enjoy partial sunshine. Just don't expect to see those clear blue skies again today.
Aside from the extra cloud cover, our Monday weather looks pretty nice. No rain is in the forecast, and daytime temperatures will be very comfortable with highs projected to climb into the low 80s this afternoon. Humidity will also stay at comfortable levels, and winds will be out of the northwest from 5-10 mph.
Now, on to the big changes we expect to see this week: starting Tuesday, a pretty strong cold front will start having an influence on our weather. The first phase of change comes in the form of some rain as the actual front passes through Southwest Florida. We expect some widely scattered showers and perhaps even a storm or two to move through Tuesday afternoon. Rain chances won't be too impressive, but roughly 30-40% of us will see a passing shower.
By Wednesday, another cool air mass will settle over Southwest Florida, and some forecast models point to this being the coolest air we've had around here so far this season. As the cool, dry air comes rushing in Wednesday, temperatures will struggle to warm into the mid 70s during the afternoon.
Temperatures drop even lower Wednesday night with lows expected to dip into the low 50s across the urban corridor and mid to upper 40s inland.
Daytime temps stay cool again Thursday with highs only reaching the low to mid 70s. By Friday and into the upcoming weekend, temperatures start to moderate again with highs getting back up around 80 degrees.

TS READING: You are hereby notified that your right to vote has been
challenged by a qualified elector.
SIX OTHER MEMBERS OF HER FAMILY GOT SIMILAR LETTERS.
TS: I thought to myself that there's somebody out here trying to scare
people into not voting.
SO who'S BEHIND THESE LETTERS?
A grassroots organization called "TRUE THE VOTE."
"Willful, fraudulent behavior."
"People voting who are not who they said they were "
THE FOUNDER IS catherine engelbrecht.
DH: Is your goal really to end voter fraud? Or is your goal really to
intimidate voters who disagree with you politically and scare them away from
the polls?
CATHERINE ENGELBRECHT: Oh, our goal really is to encourage citizens to get
involved in the process
DH: they are doing a community service, they say, by making sure there's no
voter fraud.
TS: Right. Just the poor black neighborhoods right, everybody else is clean
CATHERINE ENGELBRECHT: Well, Teresa Sharp has nothing to worry about.
Because our citizens go into this race blind, party blind.
DH: you are not in any way directly-- targeting these communities?
CATHERINE ENGELBRECHT: / absolutely not,
TRUE THE VOTE IS NOW VOWING TO MOBILIZE A MILLION POLL WATCHERS ON ELECTION
DAY TO LOOK OUT FOR FRAUD. IN RECENT YEARS,
THEIR ACTIVISTS HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF HARASSMENT IN PREDOMINANTLY MINORITY
DISTRICTS.
ENGELBRECHT INSISTS TRUE THE VOTE IS NONPARTISAN ALTHOUGH SHE HERSELF RUNS A
SEPARATE TEA PARTY GROUP AND HAS MADE VERY CLEAR THAT SHE'D LIKE TO SEE
PRESIDENT OBAMA LOSE.
AND HERE'S THE REAL TWIST. STUDY AFTER STUDY HAS FOUND VOTER FRAUD TO BE
VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTENT.
DH: Another study in 2005 that showed that / the federal government was
charging more Americans with violating migratory bird statutes than election
fraud.
CATHERINE ENGELBRECHT: As-- as a practical matter, what we've experienced
suggests that there's room for improvement.
AS FOR TERESA SHARP THE COUNTY THREW OUT THE CHALLENGE AGAINST HER AND THE
OTHER DAY SHE VOTED EARLY WITHOUT INCIDENT.

IN THE REPUBLICAN WAVE OF 2010, DEMOCRATS LOST CONTROL OF THE HOUSE -- BUT THEY KEPT THE SENATE. DEMOCRATS CONTROL FIFTY-THREE SEATS IN THE 100-MEMBER CHAMBER. REPUBLICANS NEED FOUR TO TAKE OVER IF PRESIDENT OBAMA WINS RE-ELECTION. THREE IF ROMNEY WINS, SINCE A VICE PRESIDENT PAUL RYAN WOULD SERVE AS THE TIE-BREAKER. THIRTY-THREE SEATS ARE UP FOR GRABS.
It's possible although it's looking increasingly unlikely that Republicans will be able to gain control of the Senate.
WHY IS THAT? FOR ONE THING, THERE'S MAINE REPUBLICAN OLYMPIA SNOWE'S UNEXPECTED RETIREMENT FROM A BODY SHE DESCRIBED AS HOPELESSLY PARTISAN. REPUBLICANS WILL LIKELY LOSE THAT SEAT. THEN THERE ARE THE SELF-INFLICTED WOUNDS, LIKE THIS COMMENT FROM REPUBLICAN TODD AKIN, WHO'S RUNNING IN MISSOURI.
If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that thing down.
THOSE WORDS SPARKED AN OUTCRY, PUTTING A VICTORY OVER DEMOCRAT CLAIRE MCCASKILL -- A TOP G-O-P TARGET -- IN DOUBT.

AND THERE WAS THIS REMARK BY INDIANA REPUBLICAN RICHARD MOURDOCK -- EXPLAINING WHY HE OPPOSES ABORTION -- EVEN IN THE CASE OF RAPE.
Life is a gift from God and I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape that it is something that God intended to happen.
G-O-P OPERATIVES SAY THAT STATEMENT -- WHILE INARTICULATE -- IS IN LINE WITH THE FEELINGS OF MANY CONSERVATIVE VOTERS. STILL, IT MAY HAVE OPENED THE DOOR FOR HIS DEMOCRATIC OPPONENT JOE DONNELLY.
Now again a misstatement, a misstep and suddenly his election is really in doubt.
IT'S TOO CLOSE TO CALL IN MASSACHUSETTS -- WHERE LIBERAL FAVORITE ELIZABETH WARREN -- THE FORMER OBAMA ADMINISTRATION CONSUMER ADVOCATE -- IS TRYING TO WIN BACK THE SEAT REPUBLICAN SCOTT BROWN WON IN 2010. POLLS SHOW WARREN UP BY 4. AND POLLS IN VIRGINIA HAVE THE DEMOCRAT -- FORMER GOVERNOR TIM KAINE -- LEADING FORMER REPUBLICAN SENATOR GEORGE ALLEN BY JUST TWO POINTS. WITH RACES ALL TIED UP IN PLACES LIKE NEVADA, ARIZONA, MONTANA, NORTH DAKOTA, WISCONSIN AND CONNECTICUT -- IT COULD BE A NAILBITER ON TUESDAY NIGHT. ATHENA JONES CNN WASHINGTON.

THE LINES STRETCHED ALL THE WAY DOWN NEW YORK AVENUE IN HUNTINGTON STATION. THIS USA GAS STATION GOT A GAS DELIVERY AT 9AM AND PEOPLE WERE ALREADY WAITING IN LINE.
"We saw the truck pull in here and we're like, get the cans out because it's better than waiting in the car."
TEMPERS HAD ALREADY STARTED TO FLARE.
"Don't put your mother hands on me."
GAS STATION OWNERS PUT A RESTRICTION ON HOW MUCH YOU COULD PUMP. THERE WAS A 40 DOLLAR MAXIMUM HERE.
"I ran out of gas, looking for gas, so I walked here."
OTHERS, LIKE DAVID BASKIM OF CENTERPORT SAYS HE DOESN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH THE LINES AT ALL.
"Right now I'm just kind of waiting it out. I think in a few more days hopefully there will be fuel and all this stuff will ease up."
BUT THERE ARE OTHERS WHO ARE EXTREMELY PATIENT, LIKE TOMMY FROM HUNTINGTON. HE'S FIRST IN LINE, WHENEVER THIS MOBIL ON ROUTE 110 OPENS.
"Waiting for gas, three days now."
"You've been waiting since Wednesday!"
"At this Mobil gas station on Route 110 in Huntington, there are 10,000 gallons underground of fuel, but there's no power here-so they can't pump it out. But there are a line of cars waiting for this station to open. There's actually nobody inside some of the cars, they are just waiting online, hoping to hold their spot."
AND IT SEEMS LIKE MANY PEOPLE LIKE JANICE GROTE HAD THE SAME IDEA. PARKING HER CAR AT THE GAS STATION IN THE VILLAGE OF HUNTINGTON.
"You're holding your place on line. Absolutely. So, I'm glad. At least I'll get gas, at some point."
BUT THIS GUY, DANIEL KARPEN OF HUNTINGTON SAYS HE DOESN'T NEED GAS OR A CAR. HE'D RATHER HOOF IT.
"I'm traveling in my wooden shoes, wearing them for the last 30 years. They're comfortable and they keep you warm."
"These are not comfortable."
"You have the wrong sized shoe on."
"Come on!"
"--they're wooden shoes they hurt!"
EVEN WITH THE GAS SHORTAGE, NOT MANY, INCLUDING MYSELF, WOULD WANT TO WALK IN HIS SHOES.
