FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
RAIN AND COOLER WEATHER ON THE WAY
What a difference twenty four hours can make. Sunday we were able to go out and enjoy the sunshine; however, Monday was the complete opposite.
Is it a sign of changes to come? Absolutely, but those changes will be short lived. We'll see the clouds for another day, and come tomorrow afternoon will add in a fleeting glimpse of rainfall.
The system that will bring us the rain is currently dropping down from Missouri. When it reaches the northern Gulf it will start to intensify, and that will cause it to swing a cold front our way. That front will serve as the focal point for rain as it passes through later in the day. Thunder will be the exception and not the rule. We expect only heavy downpours at times while the strong storms stay well to our north.
As we go into Wednesday that same system pushes east and starts riding up the Atlantic Coast. From there it looks to intensify very rapidly and that will help pull cool, comfortable air into southwest Florida.
We'll see temperatures in the 70s during the daytime, and low 50s during the morning hours. Those numbers begin to moderate on Friday as 80s return to the area.
Our skies look great after Tuesday, too. Lots of sunshine, but something interesting happens during this time of the year when cool air enters the Gulf and Atlantic waters. The cold air meets the warmer sea surface temperatures and that creates low, puffy clouds we call "stratocumulus."
Those clouds will impact Wednesday and Wednesday only. Thursday, Friday, and your weekend will be full of sunshine.
The same system that will give us our rain will continue to cruise up the east coast this week. It'll continue to strengthen, and on Thursday, sadly, it'll impact the Mid-Atlantic and New England area. That's the same region hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. Thankfully this system will not even compare to Sandy, but will add insult to injury.
They're going to see winds sustained of 25 to 35 MPH with gusts up to 50. Heavy rains will be an issue so coastal and inland flooding is a hazard, too. Along with that cold air on the backside is the perfect ingredient for heavy, wet snow.
Thus, adding insult to injury.
Make sure your family and friends back in the Northeast are away of this possible Nor'easter.
