Lee county supervisor of elections' teary eyes -- tell a tale -- of decision 2012's dismal times.

Sharon Harrington "To those who waited in long lines to early vote, to those in long lines at their precincts, and to to who got discouraged and left without voting. Moving forward, I will do what ever it takes to ensure this does not happen in Lee County."

Broken voting machines left Americans -- in line until late into the evening.

Some so aggravated, so annoyed, and so angry -- they simply walked away.

Brien Beenwate, Voter "I feel like the wait lines disenfranchise us.

Angie Frank, Voter

"angry, frustrating. We don't understand why it took so long."

The voter outrage -- left the supervisor siting alone today -- grilled with question after question.

Harrington 1253 "we did not try to sabotage this election. We did try to suppress anyone from voting."

Harrington explained -- her office underestimated the situation.

She blamed the lengthy ballot for the massive lines.

Harrington 1313 "we've had a problem this year because we had something totally unusual that 4 page ballot that bogged us down."

The supervisor of elections -- say training issues with polling staff further slowed getting voters in and out of Ballot boxes.

The traffic on Daniels pkwy eastbound sometimes crawls, but mostly is a parking lot.

Take sound

"it's a good thing we didn't have anything to do. No plane to catch, just trying to get back to Sarasota."

Crews trying to fix this overpass have a lot to do. There are several damaged beams under the i75 overpass. A Lehigh acres man was driving eastbound Tuesday afternoon when the arm of a backhoe that was sitting on a trailer struck the bridge several times-causing this damage--and ultimately this traffic.

Take sound

"it's bad."

While FDOT says the overpass is structurally sound, lanes need to be closed in the affected areas so crews can repair the damaged beams. And the estimated time--a few weeks.

Take sound

"december? Oh my god, I guess I'll have to leave earlier."

FDOT Spokesperson Debbie tower says drivers need to expect lane closures and shifts over the next month on both daniels parkway and i75 as work continues.

Debbie Tower, FDOT spokesperson

"the nature of the work involving both structures kind if extends the timeline, we also have to order some beams, that takes a bit if time and just simply mobilizing and getting the work done, and we have to manage traffic."

Drivers also need to use caution, safety, and most importantly---patience.

WHAT IS A NOREASTER-ANIBOX

"A FEW CHILLY NIGHTS AHEAD"

You could definitely feel a change in the airmass today as highs peaked only into the lower to middle 70s, which kept us a good 10° below the norm for this time of year. For the remainder of our Wednesday afternoon we will see a few clouds mixing in with our sunshine, as a northwest wind continues to usher in some cooler air that's rushing in over the relatively warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

That will more than likely keep a few patchy clouds in the forecast tonight with the possibility of a sprinkle or two. You'll also notice a more dramatic drop in our temperatures by morning as they settle into the middle 50s along the urban corridor with a few upper 40s deeper inland. Slightly milder conditions will be felt along our coastal and beach locations with temperatures in the upper 50s to 60°.

A few clouds are still possible in the morning forecast for Thursday, however with a northerly wind developing throughout the day, that will allow some even drier and cooler air to filter down the spine of the peninsula. This will clear any of the leftover clouds out allowing for bright sunshine to return to Southwest Florida. Despite our sunny skies during the afternoon, temperatures will only climb into the lower 70s with very comfortable humidity levels.

Thursday night looks to be the chilliest of the week or even this season. Temperatures will plummet into the upper 40s to low 50s along the urban corridor with a few middle 40s across our inland and northern communities.

It will be a spectacular finish to the work week as high pressure remains in control of our weather pattern with plentiful sunshine, low humidity, and temperatures in the upper 70s. By the weekend, our winds will take more of an easterly turn, which will bring a bit of low level moisture across the state. By Saturday and Sunday, expect a few more clouds dotting the sky with temperatures recovering back into the lower 80s.

Right now computer forecast models are indicating another cold front moving down the peninsula Tuesday and Wednesday with the possibility of a few more cloudy periods. Return to index of stories...
