First neighbors heard the sound

Take sound

Debra Daddio, Neighbor

"It's was like zzzzoom then smash."

This truck left a path of destruction. The driver--18 year old Axel Marino-- remembers driving home from the hardware store on Alabama road when he swerved to avoid a car making a left hand turn. He hit his brakes--and he says his tires locked up.

Take sound

Axel Marino

"After I hit the first set of trees I hit my head and I don't remember nothing after that."

He would skid 131 feet---also hitting this house and boat trailer. Amazingly--he was able to walk away from this crash.

Take sound

debra Daddio, Neighbor

"He came out and he was all bloody on his neck."

While Marino was rushed to the hospital, the tenant rushed back to this house--concerned it was wide open for the taking.

Take sound

Barry Walinkski

"He slept literally in his truck last night because we're not allowed in the structure."

Property owner Barry Walinkski says his tenant of three years has had a string of bad luck lately.

Take sound

Barry

"He had his house broken into while he was at work a couple of months ago."

Nats

As crews work to secure the home, Marino copes with reality.

Despite the damage--everyone involved says they're glad it looks worse than it really was.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

The day before Thanksgiving can at times be a traveling nightmare, but not this year. As we head into Thanksgiving eve much of the nation looks quiet. Of course that's good news because I know many of you will be heading out to feast and give thanks.

The one exception will be across the Pacific Northwest. If your travels take you to the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, or Montana check before you head out. Again, the rest of the nation will be just peachy.

In fact, as you begin preparing for your meal mother-nature will begin serving something of her own for us in southwest Florida - nice, crisp autumn air.

Why?

A series of cold fronts will roll through the south, and behind each front lays a touch of refreshing air. Oh, and these will be dry fronts so you need not to worry about rain for the next seven days!

Wednesday, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, and the holiday weekend will all be dry. We'll even pull out the sun!

Trust me, you'll not only see the change behind each front, but you'll feel it, too. Temperatures will be in the lower 50s during the mornings, and then they'll rebound to the low 70s for daytime highs. Return to index of stories...

CAPE PZ FAMILY DOLLAR STORE-PKG

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

"FAMILY DOLLAR" IS MOVING INTO THE DOWNTOWN CAPE - FINALLY!

-Patti Martin/P&Z Chair-"As the building stands alone it looks pretty darn good."

PLANNING AND ZONING CHAIR PATTI MARTIN GIVING THE PROJECT HER BLESSING AFTER DEVELOPERS FOR THE VALUE CHAIN PRESENTED THE COMMISSION WITH AN "ENHANCED" PLAN.

-Martin-"I am tired of accepting less than the best."

EARLIER THIS MONTH, THE P-AND-Z PUT THE PROJECT ON HOLD. NOT HAPPY WITH THE BUILDING'S "BASIC" EXTERIOR.

-Martin-"We are building a city. I choose to build a quality city so when I look at a project I look at how it affects everything."

-Alex Boyer-"Under the new and improved plan, the developer will make several changes, one of them is adding a tower with a stainless steel roof. They'll also add contrasting walls for a more decorative feel and lastly extend windows and awnings along the side of the building."

THIS IS WHAT THE FINISHED FAMILY DOLLAR STORE SHOULD LOOK LIKE -- COMPLETE WITH LUSH LANDSCAPING.

-Charles Basinait/Represents Family Dollar-"Actually there were quite a few things done to the building so that is going to be a significant cost but I guess at the end of the day it's the cost of doing business."

THE 8,300-SQUARE FOOT STORE IS ONE OF SEVERAL FAMILY DOLLAR'S SETTING UP SHOP IN CAPE CORAL. BRINGING NEW BUSINESS TO SOUTHWEST FLORIDA'S LARGEST CITY.

STILL, NOT EVERYONE IS HAPPY TO HAVE THE VALUE CHAIN AS ITS NEW NEIGHBOR.

-Martin-"To be honest I wasn't about a dollar store there at all."

THE STORE IS SET TO OPEN WITHIN THE NEXT 8-MONTHS. IN CAPE CORAL ALEX BOYER NBC2. Return to index of stories...

Then there are some organic solids which can be used as soil additives. The real money maker is this brown grease or feedstock which can be used in bio fuels and biodiesels.
