IT'S OFF TO THE RACES FOR MILLIONS OF AMERICANS TRYING TO MAKE IT HOME FOR THANKSGIVING.
ALL WEEK THERE HAS BEEN A STEADY STREAM OF TRAFFIC ON THE NATION'S HIGHWAYS AND AIRPORTS WITH THE BUSIEST OF THE THANKSGIVING TRAVEL SEASON PEAKING LATER TODAY.
"I know the drill, know you have to wait, take you shoes off and all the things you have to do."
AAA PROJECTS MORE THAN 43 MILLION AMERICANS WILL TAKE TO THE ROADS AND AIRWAYS OVER THE HOLIDAY.
"That's up a little less than 1 percent from last year but it is the 4th consecutive year of increase since we saw a steep decline back in 2008."
EXPECT HEAVY TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAYS AND INTERSTATES. GAS PRICES ARE DOWN FROM THE PEAK WE SAW IN SEPTEMBER AND NATIONWIDE PRICES ARE ABOUT WHERE THEY WERE LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME. AS A RESULT, 90 PERCENT OF THOSE TRAVELING SAY THEY WILL GO BY CAR.
AIR FARES ARE ALSO A LITTLE EASIER ON THE WALLET. DOWN BY 11 PERCENT FOR THE 40 TOP CITY ROUTES.
"This is in terms of a family event the biggest holiday of the year. and while people are still paying attention to what they are spending, carving turkey with family and friends still trumps penching pennies."
CHRIS CLACKUM, NBC NEWS.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"Beautiful weather for the holiday weekend"
It was a much nicer start to the day with plenty of sunshine and cool temperatures. We'll continue the trend of cooler than normal weather as we head right into the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
More sunshine is on the way for this afternoon with a few patchy clouds mixing in from time to time. Highs will climb into the middle to upper 70s with a nice breeze out of the north gusting close to 20mph. A front to our north will cross the peninsula today, and open the flood gates for a cool and dry airmass to flow into Florida.
Tonight, mostly clear skies will remain in the forecast with chilly overnight lows. Most of us will wake up on our Thanksgiving morning with temperatures in the lower 50s with upper 40s across our inland and northern cold spots. Temperatures will begin to warm up a bit by the afternoon under mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower half of the 70s.
High pressure will dominate our weather pattern through the end of the week, with plenty of sunshine with cool overnight lows in the 50s and mild afternoons in the 70s.
Bright and sunny conditions will stick around through Saturday with another shot of cool and dry air making its way down the peninsula. This will just reinforce the already pleasant weather we have around our part of the state keeping us cool and dry through early next week.
Happy Thanksgiving!

A plea of no contest ends a six month saga for wallace weatherholt. After losing his hand to a 9 foot alligator back in june, fwc filed charges against him for illegally feeding the reptile during an airboat tour.
Today we got a better look at his injuries-- doctors weren't able to re-attach his left hand and part of his arm.
Tourist testimony and a picture snapped during the incident was evidence fwc says they had to prove weatherholt was feeding and taunting the gator during the accident.
His no contest plea means a jury trial wont happen-- and the evidence won't be seen or heard in a courtroom.

IT'S A NEIGHBORHOOD DOTTED WITH CHURCHES, DAYCARES AND A SCHOOL.
BUT AN UNDERCOVER OPERATION THAT LASTED THREE MONTHS HERE ENDED IN THE ARRESTS OF 15 PEOPLE, MOST ACCUSED OF SELLING CRACK COCAINE.
SOT: "Right now in this operation, we weren't dealing with 16, 17 year old kids selling drugs. We had people from 25 to 60 years old."
UNDERCOVER SGT. RICK NOTARO CAN'T SHOW HIS FACE ON CAMERA, BUT HE SAYS. THE SWEEP STEMMED FROM CONCERNED PEOPLE WHO LIVE RIGHT IN THESE NEIGHBORHOODS.
SOT: "Hopefully it's going to give them a little peace and quiet. Our efforts are going to continue in that neighborhood because we don't know if it's going to solve the problem completely."
ACCORDING TO FORT MYERS POLICE, UNDERCOVER OFFICERS WERE SOLD DRUGS FROM 23 DIFFERENT PEOPLE, 11 FROM THIS NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR HENDERSON AVENUE AND LINCOLN BLVD.
AND ALOMST ALL OF THEM ARE BEING CHARGED WITH SELLING COCAINE NEAR A SCHOOL OR CHURCH.
SOT: "Surprised it hadn't happened sooner."
THIS WOMAN DIDN'T WANT US TO USE HER NAME OR GO ON CAMERA OUT OF FEAR FOR HER SAFETY.
BUT SAYS THE PROBLEMS IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD GO WELL BEYOND DRUGS. AND INTO VIOLENCE.
POLICE BELIEVE THEY CAN CURB THAT VIOLENCE BY GETTING DRUG DEALERS OFF THE STREET.
SOT: Chief Douglas Baker, FMPD "Anything that we can do from an arrest stand point, removing that individual from the streets of fort myers, is nothing but positive for the residents and business owners in the city, because these are they guys creating a lot of that violent crime."
AND WHILE MANY NEIGHBORS ARE HAPPY ARRESTS WERE MADE.
SOME DONT FEEL IT'S GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
SOT: "They going to get right out and it start all over again, or there's somebody to take their place."

I'M NICK CILETTI.
FIRST WE WANT TO START WITH THE ROAD SAFETY.
THIS TIME OF YEAR, THERE'S A LOT OF FOOD.
AND FOR MANY, COCKTAILS AS WELL!
SO BEFORE YOU MAKE THE CHOICE TO DRINK AND DRIVE - BOB HANSEN BREAKS DOWN THE COST OF A D-U-I.
Return to index of stories...
THERE ARE LOT'S OF CARS ON THE ROAD. BUT EACH DRIVER MAY PAY A DIFFERENT AMOUNT FOR THEIR AUTO INSURANCE.
ONE FACTOR. THE VALUE OF THE CAR. ANOTHER FACTOR. THE HISTORY OF THE DRIVER, ESPECIALLY IF IT INCLUDES A CONVICTION FOR DRUNK DRIVING.
"But what most people don't understand is the cost of a DUI, even on a first offense, can be upward of 10-thousand dollars."
PETE MORAGA WITH THE INSURANCE INFORMATION NETWORK SAYS THAT AMOUNT INCLUDES COURTS COSTS, ATTORNEY'S FEES AND GETTING YOUR CAR OUT OF IMPOUND. AND IT ALSO INCLUDES THE SKYROCKETING RATES OF YOUR CAR INSURANCE.
"That can be anywhere from 50 percent to 100 percent, depending on your driving record."
AND UNLIKE OTHER DRIVING OFFENSES. A DRUNK DRIVING CONVICTION WILL FOLLOW YOU FOR MANY YEARS.
"So it's bad enough when your insurance rates skyrocket after a DUI, but it can get even worse when your insurance company dumps you."
"Absolutely, there are some insurers that won't even touch a person that has a DUI. So if you're with one of the insurers that doesn't allow that, then you're going to have to look for another policy."
AND SOMETIMES THE ONLY POLICY COMES FROM THE STATE'S ASSIGNED RISK PLAN. THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAR INSURANCE YOU CAN BUY.
OF COURSE THE ANSWER IS NOT TO DRINK AND DRIVE. NOT ONLY FOR THE IMPACT IT HAS ON YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. BUT ALSO ON THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE SHARING THE ROAD.

Can you see me?
.EVEN WATCHING YOU. BUT THANKS TO THE FINELY-ENGINEERED CRAFTSMANSHIP, THEY CAN'T SEE YOU.
I was excited about it. I think it's just really unique, and I've been standing outside long enough to know that I could not see in. So, it wasn't too bad, but it was strange when you had four men standing there looking in the door. But they couldn't see me.
THERE ARE A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT HAD TO BE CHANGED IN ORDER FOR THE RESTROOMS TO MEET CODE.
There's no steel frame holding up the architectural exhibit, and so this has a stainless steel frame inside. And the other one had see-through glass on all four walls, and this one has it on three. We had to have a place to hide all the plumbing and air conditioning and heating. This is heated and cooled, unlike the one that the artist did. So this meets code, for one, and it's a lot more durable, I think, in the long run.
THE CITY SAYS FOR CITIZENS WHO MAY BE WONDERING IF THESE RESTROOMS ARE SAFE TO HAVE ON THE SQUARE. WELL, TAKE A LOOK UP.
If you take a look around, we've got nine cameras here on this square watching what goes on, and they're all monitored at the police department. And they're all recorded in high-definition color. Trust me. This is the last place a creep wants to hang out.
BUT AFTER TWO CUPS OF COFFEE AND A LONG DRIVE TO SULPHUR SPRINGS, IT WAS DEFINITELY A PLACE I WANTED TO HANG OUT.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU COMBINE A TURKEY.
WITH A BUNCH OF TWINKIES?
I'm not kidding. I'm serious.
In a turkey. actually tastes good. Tasty!
NO, IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK. CATERER BUTCH YAMALI'S MOM DIDN'T SHOVE WHOLE TWINKIES UP A TURKEY. THAT WOULD BE TURKEY MOLESTATION. BUT BECAUSE BUTCH AND HIS BROTHER DIDN'T LIKE TURKEY AND DID LIKE TWINKIES, THEIR MOM CONCOCTED WHAT WE'RE CALLING TURTWINKIE
It made us eat the turkey.
HERE'S THE RECIPE. DE-CREME YOUR TWINKIES.
When we're breaking down the Twinkies we reserve the cream, sweet, has the sugar in it. we rub the turkey with that.
THUS CREATING A TWINKIE FILLING GLAZE. NEXT CRUMBLE THE GOLDEN SPONGE CAKE INTO REGULAR STUFFING. FOR A PAN THIS SIZE THEY ADDED ABOUT 10 TWINKIES.
It's not fully Twinkie. if it was all Twinkie it'd be a little too sweet.
STUFF AND COOK THE BIRD. VOILA. THE PRESENTATION TOOK PLACE AT KENNEDY'S RESTAURANT ON NEW YORK'S 57TH ST. TIME FOR THE TURTWINKIE TASTE TEST.
AND WHAT ABOUT THAT LOVELY TWINKIE GLAZED SKIN?
It caramelizes so nice.
AGAIN, DELICIOUS BUT HARD TO DETECT THE TWINKIE. IT'S A LOT MORE SUBTLE THAN DELICACIES LIKE.
Deep fried Twinkies.
I remember putting hot dogs inside them.
ONCE YOU'VE SURVIVED TWINKIES DEPLOYED AS HOT DOG BUNS, DRIZZLED WITH CHEESE WHIZ. JEEEZ, WHAT'S A LITTLE TURTWINKIE?
