Today's Weather Story
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Our Tuesday morning starts with mainly clear skies, but keep an eye out for patchy fog. Winds turned more easterly and southeasterly through the day yesterday. That brought in enough moisture to give us just a couple of clouds yesterday and the potential for patchy fog this morning. Through the day today, the southeasterly breeze will continue at 5 - 10 mph, sending in a few more clouds and heating us up to near 80 degrees. An afternoon sea breeze off of the cool Gulf of Mexico waters will keep beaches in the 70s. Lows tonight will only drop into the lower 60s. This is happening ahead of a cold front. Don't get too excited about this one, though. It is going to be falling apart as it moves into our area tomorrow morning. There will be a few more clouds with the front as moves through Southwest Florida Wednesday. Behind the front, we'll see more sunshine and there will be slightly cooler weather to start the day on Thursday with morning lows in the upper 50s. Then, with all that sunshine and dry air in place behind the front, we will quickly warm back into the lower 80s and stay there through the weekend.

AN ALL NEW STUDY OUT THIS MORNING FINDS THAT THE LATEST MAMMOGRAPHY GUIDELINES MAY BE LEADING TO MISSED CANCERS AND A DECREASE IN SCREENING.
IN 2009, THE U.S. PREVENTATIVE SERVICES TASK FORCE ISSUED NEW RECOMMENDATIONS THAT ROUTINE MAMMOGRAMS SHOULD NOT BEGIN UNTIL THE AGE OF 50. WITH ADDITIONAL SCREENINGS EVERY OTHER YEAR.
HOWEVER, WHEN RESEARCHERS ANALYZED DATA FROM OVER 43-THOUSAND MAMMOGRAMS, THEY FOUND ALMOST 20-PERCENT OF CANCERS WERE FOUND AMONG WOMEN IN THEIR 40'S -- WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY BE MISSED WITH THE NEW GUIDELINES.
THE STUDY CONCLUDES THAT ANNUAL MAMMOGRAMS SHOULD START AT AGE 40 -- WHICH IS WHAT THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RECOMMENDS.

Full Forecast
