FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A FEW MORE CLOUDS FRIDAY

Thursday turned out to be a gorgeous day with a decent medley of sun and clouds. As we near the week's end, those clouds will grow in number.

High pressure is strengthening over the Carolinas, and that's causing our winds to pick up. Those brisk winds are able to bring clouds from the Atlantic into southwest Florida. That's what we saw on Thursday, and we'll see it for another day on Friday. However, there's an area of energy anchored just off the Texas coastline. That area will sail eastward and will help give us even more clouds to end the week.

So we have clouds coming from both the east and the west, and well, that makes for a mostly cloudy Friday. That's what we're forecasting along with lows in the upper 50s bouncing back to the low 80s come the afternoon.

Those clouds are short lived, and they will quickly erode for your weekend. Partly cloudy skies will hover over the area for Saturday and Sunday. Looks like a fabulous couple of days! We'll see more of the same Monday and Tuesday, too.

Another cold front will approach Wednesday into Thursday of next week. I expect it to fade away as it approaches, and that means our weather will remain quiet.

Temperatures will continue to be in the upper 50s around daybreak, and lower 80s can be expected for daytime highs.

Boaters, use caution when hitting the waters. Winds are getting stronger, and by this time tomorrow they'll be coming from the NE around 15. Return to index of stories...

TOSS TO NICK-OC

FINANCIAL MARKETS ARE VOLATILE AGAIN TODAY AS INVESTORS CLING TO EVERY WORD COMING OUT WASHINGTON SURROUNDING THE IMPENDING FISCAL CLIFF.

OUR WELL FARGO ADVISOR NICK CHLUMSKY IS HERE WITH US TODAY --

AND NICK -- ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE CONCERNED THAT THE DEAL DEALINE WILL PASS? Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO ADVISORS-PLASMA

Well first, it's only natural for people to be concerned about the fiscal cliff since the outcome could have a significant impact not only on the overall economy, but also on the personal finances of millions of Americans. The mere uncertainty of whether or not a deal will be sealed by year-end has most people on edge. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO ADVISORS-CG

And I also think people's fear is further fueled because most Americans can't really wrap their heads around the complexity of the legislation surrounding the fiscal cliff and the enormous dollar amounts associated with both the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts and government spending cuts. And of course most people fear what they can't understand.

And should our government leaders find themselves in gridlock and we end up going over the cliff, the true impact might not be fully understood for years to come, although most economists agree that going over the cliff would compromise an already tepid US economic recovery and likely send our economy into recession in 2013.

So if you're in the "I'm worried" camp right now, there are a few things that you should be doing right now. First, review your overall financial situation but particularly, your investment accounts. Review your asset allocation or the mix between equities and fixed income. Make sure this mix is appropriate for both your risk tolerance and investment objective.

And closely related to that, understand what your downside risk is. In other words, how much will your portfolio drop if we see a bad outcome out of Washington on the fiscal cliff. And if you are not comfortable with that drop, you need to make some adjustments in your investment accounts.

And don't be afraid to take some chips off the table. After all, the market, as measured by the S&P 500, is up over 12.5% year to date. So now might be a good time for people to sell some stocks and raise some cash who are losing sleep over fiscal cliff headlines.

Over the past several weeks, we've discussed what the likely outcomes or scenarios are for how the fiscal cliff issue will play out. And we still believe there will be some kind of compromise on taxes and spending and I think this has been reflected in the performance in the markets in the past two days with the Dow climbing 160 points.

But as investors, you should plan for the worst and hope for the best. And with all the noise of the fiscal cliff, don't forget about your end of year items. Remember, tomorrow is the last day to double up on positions to avoid a wash sale on securities you are selling for a loss in 2012.

Also, for any of you that are over 70 ½ years old with qualified retirement accounts and IRA's, don't forget to take your required minimum distribution before December 31st to avoid costly penalties. For those of you wanting to make charitable donations, well, you have about 31 more days to do that. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO ADVISORS-PLASMA

And for any of you with larger estates, you still have time to take advantage of the $5,120,000 lifetime gift tax exemption that is likely to significantly decrease in future years. You should talk to your attorney to learn more about your gifting options. Return to index of stories...

FOR ERIN DIMEGLIO , IT TOOK JUST SECONDS TO GET IN THE HISTORY BOOKS.

ERIN BECAME THE FIRST HIGH SCHOOL FEMALE QUARTERBACK TO TAKE A SNAP IN THE HISTORY OF FLORIDA VARSITY FOOTBALL.

"I'm a girl, stuff like that, but I don't see it as that. I see it as someone just playing the game of football."

VARSITY COACH, DOUG GATEWOOD, SAW HER SKILLS WHILE COACHING HER FLAG FOOTBALL TEAM. HE INVITED HER TO THROW WITH BOYS BUT NEVER INTENDED FOR HER TO PLAY.

"They say, 'Well, when she gets hit by a 300 lb. defensive tackle, you'll see,' but my running back weighs less than her!"

"I actually want to get hit in the game. It looks pretty fun."

THE HITS CAME, BUT NOT FROM THE FIELD. BLOGGERS QUESTIONED HER ABILITY -- SAYING GIRLS HAD NO PLACE ON THE FIELD. HER TEAMMATES WERE QUICK TO DEFEND.

"To me, I think they kinda jealous cause she can actually play."

"I see her as part of the family, and I don't like it when you talk about the family."

ERIN IS ONE OF A GROWING NUMBER OF GIRLS TO PLAY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. MORE THAN 700 ARE PLAYING IN THE U-S. WHILE 500 GIRLS HAVE PLAYED FOR FLORIDA TEAMS, NONE HAVE ENTERED THE GAME AS QUARTERBACKS -- UNTIL ERIN.

ERIN'S MOM, KATHLEEN, HOPES WHAT HER DAUGHTER IS DOING WILL CHANGE THE PLAYING FIELD.

"It makes me feel good because it makes me feel good for girls in the future."

BUT FOR ERIN, THE MEDIA HYPE IS MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. THE SENIOR HAS A FOUR-POINT-TWO GPA, IS ENROLLED IN THREE COLLEGE COURSES, BASKETBALL, FOOTBALL, AND PLANS TO PLAY LACROSSE. SHE STILL FEELS SHE HAS A LOT TO PROVE. THOSE FEW MINUTES WERE NOT ENOUGH.

"I wanna show everybody that I can do more than that. Throw a touchdown pass. I can do this. I can do this. Read defenses. I can be as good as the boys can."

NO DOUBT! NO DOUBT AT ALL! I'M VANESSA WELCH REPORTING. Return to index of stories...

THE PRICE OF BEAUTY. COLLEGE COED LINDSEY KEMPA USED TO PAY FOR TANNING.

LINDSEY KEMPA/FORMER TANNER

RUNS:

:30 I have I had a membership to a few tanning places around here. To me, tanning is more of an aesthetic thing.

THE LOOK MAY BE MORE COSTLY THAN SHE COUNTED ON. NEW STUDIES FOUND AT LEAST 170-THOUSAND CASES OF SKIN CANCER EACH YEAR ARE LINKED TO TANNING BEDS.

DR. DREW KREEGEL/PLASTIC SURGEON

RUNS:

3:13 People who use sun tan beds typically use them year round, so the tendency to use and get exposed to UVB radiation year round as apposed to just seasonally makes it more dangerous.

THE SURVEY ALSO SHED LIGHT ON WHAT TYPE OF CANCERS INDOOR TANNERS ARE GETTING. 29% WERE MORE LIKELY TO DEVELOP THE LEAST THREATENING FORM, BASIL CELL CARCINOMA. WHAT'S TROUBLING IS THEY WERE 67% more likely to GET the more serious squamous-cell carcinoma, compared with those who never tanned indoors. AND THEIR TANNED TONE be working against them.

DR. DREW KREEGEL/PLASTIC SURGEON

RUNS:

8:49 That blotchiness that some people develop after sun exposure and deep tanning can cover up the redness that many early skin cancers or even more advanced skin cancers can develop. That could obscure the detection of the skin cancer.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

People who start tanning indoors before age 25 face the highest cancer risk- No surprise because they are more likely to be over-exposed, accumulating years of harmful rays.

DR. DREW KREEGEL/PLASTIC SURGEON

RUNS:

2:44 It's just not as much of a reality to younger people but that's where a large amount of the original damage, that ultimately causes skin cancer, occurs.

LINDSEY KEMPA/FORMER TANNER

RUNS:

:30 It just seems silly to keep using beds over and over again to achieve a look when in the long term you can have skin cancer, you can have wrinkled skin. I'm all for spray tanning I think it's a much better way.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE FACTS IN THE LIGHT OF DAY, THE FAKE BAKE MAY NOT BE AS PRETTY, YEARS DOWN THE ROAD. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

THE VIDEOS ARE ALL OVER THE INTERNET. DELIVERY PEOPLE DROPPING OFF PACKAGES. AND THEN MOMENTS LATER, SOMEONE WALKS UP AND TAKES THE BOX RIGHT OFF THE FRONT DOORSTEP. SOMETIMES, THE THIEVES ARE CAUGHT ON HOME SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS.

Kim SOT: I ordered this package online and then it never showed up after about a week and a half the package just never showed up.

KIM WESTERBECK HAD MORE THAN 400 DOLLARS WORTH OF CLOTHING STOLEN THAT SHE'D ORDERED ONLINE. IT "WAS" DELIVERED. BUT THEN, IT DISAPPEARED. ALL OF IT CAPTURED ON THE SECURITY CAMERA MOUNTED BY HER FRONT DOOR.

Kim SOT: / the guy really has guts to get out of his car on my street come on to my property and take something that belongs to me in broad daylight.

WESTERBECK FILED A POLICE REPORT. THEN POSTED THE VIDEO ONLINE. BUT SO FAR, NO SUSPECTS.

Kim SOT: it was as though he was Christmas shopping at my house.

BUT VIDEOS POSTED ONLINE SEEM TO SHOW IT STILL HAPPENS. SUSPECTED THIEVES TAKING EVERYTHING FROM ADULT CLOTHING. TO A HOW-COULD-THEY-ITEM, A CHILD'S BICYCLE, FROM RIGHT OFF SOMEONE'S DOORSTEPS.

USPS SOT: tis the season we know people are ordering and receiving packages / if they're not going to be home during the time when they're expecting a parcel that maybe they should reach out to a trusted friend or neighbor and ask them will you pick up my parcel.

TO AVOID PACKAGE THEFT, MANY DELIVERY COMPANIES ALSO OFFER SIGNATURE OR DELIVERY CONFIRMATION SERVICES FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE.

FOR KIM WESTERBECK, IT'S A LESSON LEARNED.

Kim SOT: / this was worth about $400 and I didn't think about having this delivered to the office I just didn't think someone would steal a package with clothes in it. Return to index of stories...

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME ASHLEY CARDENAS LAID EYES ON HER BABY GIRL AUDRINA. AFTER A SIX HOUR SURGERY TO SAVE HER LIFE.

"It's amazing you know every day I thank god you know for her, for her being here."

AT 16 WEEKS GESTATION. AUDRINA WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ECTOPIA CARDIS. YOU CAN SEE IN THIS M-R-I. HER HANDS CIRCLING HER TINY HEART WHICH WAS OUTSIDE OF HER BODY.

"It's really strange I have to say and I've looked at a lot of hearts!"

ASHLEY WAS REFERRED TO TEXAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL WHERE A TEAM OF SPECIALISTS CAME UP WITH A PLAN TO SAVE HER BABY.

BORN VIA C-SECTION OCTOBER SIXTEENTH. AUDRINA WAS IMMEDIATELY RUSHED INTO SURGERY. HERE YOU SEE HER TINY HEART BEATING OUTSIDE HER CHEST.

"So actually the tip of the heart is turned up it's looking this way so what you're actually seeing is about a third of each ventricle is outside where is a significant part of the heart."

FIVE WEEKS AFTER SURGERY. AUDRINA IS RECOVERING IN THE NICU. GETTING STRONGER EVERY DAY. THE LONGEST LIVING BABY IN TEXAS TO HAVE BEEN BORN WITH THIS RARE CONDITION.

"Right now what we have over the heart is skin and a bit of muscle so she doesn't have a

breast plate like we have so someday we're going to have to do an operation to provide a more durable protector over the heart because she's going to want to do the things that children do.
