Full Forecast
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
For the second day in a row, clouds will be pretty stubborn this morning, and most of us will start the day with a canopy of low clouds filtering the sun.
The cloud cover will also work to limit heating during the first half of the morning, so conditions will be rather cool to start the day with temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
In conjunction with the cooler temperatures, a swift wind out of the east will bring an added chill to the air this morning, and we'll continue to see a stiff breeze through the day with gusts reaching 20 mph.
As we progress through the mid to late morning, the blanket of low clouds should begin to break, allowing for a few rays of sun to penetrate to the surface. This process should continue gradually through the afternoon, giving us a mix of sun and clouds for the second half of the day.
After this morning's somewhat chilly start, temperatures should warm quickly into the upper 70s this afternoon once the clouds break up.
Rain prospect will continue to stay low, but one or two sprinkles can't be ruled out, particularly father south close to Naples, Marco Island, and Everglades City.
Look for a partly cloudy sky tonight with temperatures in the low 60s across the urban corridor and mid to upper 50s over the interior.
Friday will likely offer up another day of more clouds than sun along with a slim chance of a sprinkle or two. Winds will stay very breezy, and temperatures will warm to 80 during the afternoon.
Sunshine will be on the increase as we head into the weekend, but we should also see our fair share of afternoon clouds riding in on a strong easterly breeze.
Overall, however, it's looking like a pleasant weekend with daytime highs close to 80 and morning lows around 60.

POLICE SAY JACKSON WAS SHOT DURING A CONFRONTATION ABOUT THE MUSIC COMING FROM THE CAR HE WAS IN WITH SOME FRIENDS.
THE SHOOTER THEN DROVE AWAY.

Weather Trends

RESEARCHERS MAY HAVE FOUND A CLUE INTO WHAT CAUSES AUTISM IN CHILDREN.
A RECENT STUDY FOUND THE RISK FACTORS CAN GO UP WHEN BABIES ARE EXPOSED TO AIR POLLUTION FROM CARS.
ANGIE CROUCH REPORTS.
Return to index of stories...
A NEW STUDY SHOWS THAT BABIES WHO ARE EXPOSED TO POLLUTION IN THE WOMB AND DURING THEIR FIRST YEAR OF LIFE ARE MORE LIKELY TO BECOME AUTISTIC.
ACCORDING TO THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL, AUTISM NOW AFFECTS ONE IN EVERY 88 BABIES BORN IN THE U.S. THAT'S A 24% INCREASE OVER THE PAST SIX YEARS. CHILDREN WITH THE DISORDER HAVE A BROAD RANGE OF LEARNING PROBLEMS.
NEW RESEARCH FROM THE KECK SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AT USC SHOWS CHILDREN WHOSE MOTHERS LIVED IN AREAS WITH HIGH LEVELS OF POLLUTION FROM TRAFFIC ARE TWICE AS LIKELY TO DEVELOP AUTISM.
"This does not say pollution causes autism, what it says is. there is an association."
DR DOUGLAS VANDERBILT IS A PEDIATRICIAN WHO TREATS AUTISM. HE SAYS THE STUDY SUGGESTS NITROGEN DIOXIDE AND SMALL PARTICLES THAT COME FROM TRAFFIC POLLUTION AFFECT -NOT JUST THE LUNGS - BUT ALSO THE BRAIN.
DR. VANDERBILT, WHO WORKS CLOSELY WITH USC RESEARCHERS, SAYS STUDIES LIKE THIS MAY PAVE THE WAY TOWARDS ONE DAY FINDING EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS FOR THIS MYSTERIOUS DISORDER.
"I think it's a lot of hope because we're moving forward and trying to understand what's causing this problem. How we can diagnose it and treat it."
AUTISM SPEAKS - THE WORLD'S LEADING NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION ADVOCATING FOR AUTISTIC CHILDREN ISSUED A STATEMENT ON THE RESEARCH SAYING:
"THIS STUDY HELPS OUR UNDERSTANDING OF ENVIRONMENTAL RISK FACTORS. RESEARCHERS NOW KNOW THAT THERE IS NOT ONE SINGLE ENVIRONMENTAL FACTOR THAT CAUSES AUTISM. IN FACT, THERE ARE MOST LIKELY MANY DIFFERENT FACTORS WORKING TOGETHER WITH GENETICS TO CAUSE A DIAGNOSIS."
